Electric Lawn Mower
QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 16, 2014 -> 12:52 PM) Just spoke with a landscape architect. Looking to drastically reduce our water usage, as I have spoken about in this thread before. Guy looked at the property on Google Maps and had some great initial observations/ideas. Said his fee is $120/hr. Sort of made my eyes pop out of my head for a second. Has anyone hired a landscape architect before? Do they generally just do the design and then you bring in a different firm for the labor, or do they do it all? Just curious. I'd imagine the architect/designer is just going to do the layout for you. You'll have to hire the laborers to do the work. But i'm sure he has plenty of references available, or should if he's reputable.

QUOTE (illinilaw08 @ Jun 16, 2014 -> 03:26 PM) Right. I proposed what I think is a pretty reasonable restriction on gun ownership... you know, some sort of proof that you can competently handle the weapon before you own one. You responded by bringing up false equivalencies to voting and speech. Which are obviously distinguishable. I'd prefer we get to the meat of the argument. I'm genuinely curious why making people show they can operate a firearm before they can own one would be an overly onerous restriction. EDIT: Basically everyone I know who own and use guns, whether it's for hunting, protection, use at the range, whatever, respect firearms for what they are... a tool that can be pretty dangerous is used incompetently, but provide utility if used properly. I see plenty of reasonable uses for firearms. I don't need/want one, but I don't begrudge those that do. I just think people that own firearms should be competent with them before they can own one. I'm not really opposed to this, and I agree that it's sorta nonsense that I can buy/own a gun with no certification/training required, but I then have to go get that training if i'm going to get a hunting license. That doesn't make much sense. Still, at the end of the day shooting a gun isn't rocket science. I'm not sure you need to create classes and make people spend more money to learn how to do that. Maybe if you offer up a state-sponsored program like drivers' ed that would make sense. But I think forcing people to pay/spend the time/energy to practice a constitutional right probably isn't going to fly from a legal perspective. That's restrictive and probably discriminatory (because poor people).

QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jun 16, 2014 -> 08:33 AM) Very disappointed about no LS. Also, although not a big deal in the scheme of things, would have loved the dialog between him and Jaime to have been different and for him and his father to have discussed Tysha. "Wherever whores go" would have been a nice inclusion. Not a big deal though, still thought the episode was really good. Agreed on the back story with Tyrion and Tysha. That really set up for me in the books why Tywin had to go after seeing Shea there. I'm surprised they didn't add that. It would have taken another 2 minutes. All and all I think this was the best season so far. Last year had a better total season arc, but this year a lot of fun things happened that really got the story moving.

Oh, and how many hall of famers does it take for Lebron to win a championship? Not one. Not two. Not three...

That was satisfying. Gotta wonder if the Heat stay together. Wade and Bosh walking would free up some much needed money to get some decent role players.

Awful call on Parker leads to a 3. Awful non - call on Lebron ends with a 3 pt play. Surely the NBA doesn't want this to go 7.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jun 13, 2014 -> 03:51 PM) $8.87 edit: seriously though, no ISIS does not have any nuclear weapons, though they have captured some US-supplied heavy artillery from the retreating Iraqi army. They're not beheading people after taking over cities. Not totally true. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-26...trol-north.html edit: another one: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-26...n-Congress.html

They'd be the favorites again next year. Duncan still plays like he's 30. Why not go for it again? edit: looks like everyone but Diaw is signed for next year. 2015-2016 is the more logical breaking point. Everyone would have to re-up and Kawhi will get near max deal I would think. http://www.basketball-reference.com/contracts/SAS.html Here's another question, if the Spurs close it out Sunday, who gets the MVP? Has to be Leonard at this point right?

More like Pocahantas, but yes the story wasn't exactly original. Still, I don't see how you can call it overrated.

That plan would require the Bulls to sign veteran FA's who want to win championships. Selling them to spend a winter in Chicago, at reduced salaries, is going to be tough. If they don't do that, they have a great starting 4, and then no bench. The current Finals is proving you can't really do that.

QUOTE (Brian @ Jun 13, 2014 -> 06:49 AM) I'm one of the few that pretty much despised The Matrix. Gravity was boring? What movie did she watch? That was nearly nonstop action for 90 minutes. Avatar's story was a little weak, but the visuals and the world he created made it great (and it's the best 3d movie ever so far). I agree Drive was overrated, and while I liked the Descendants the story was pretty hollow.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jun 13, 2014 -> 09:17 AM) So LeBron losing in the finals is worse than Jordan losing to the Pistons? Like I said, there's not even a debate between the two in my opinion but the finals record argument makes no sense. Yes. IMO it is. When you're comparing two supposed GOAT time players, what you do on the biggest stage matters more. I think for the most part people (myself included) give Lebron a pass with Cleveland. One loss isn't a huge deal. His loss to an inferior Mavericks team, in which he failed to show up in two or three games, was inexcusable. There's an asterisk attached to last years (for Lebron's legacy), and if he loses this year it's just another hit against him. You seem to think players showing up in big games should be equal to players showing up in regular season/opening round games. Why? If you're the best of the best, you need to show up and play your best against the best.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Jun 12, 2014 -> 11:33 PM) Agreed. Apparently Jordan didn't do a good enough job refusing to lose against the Pistons pre-1991. Penalizing LeBron for putting a garbage Cleveland team on his back and taking them to the finals is dumb. The one series in his career LeBron deserves a ton of blame for losing is against the Mavericks in the final. Otherwise he has played exceptionally well and just lost to better teams. It again comes down to expectations and comparisons to the GREATEST OF ALL TIME. This isn't people debating who's a deserving all-star or even MVP for a given year. It's the GOAT debate. Everything matters, but especially the biggest moments on the biggest stage. In that argument, his losing records in the Finals absolutely matter, ESPECIALLY when he's losing with THREE hall of famers.

QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Jun 12, 2014 -> 11:34 PM) My biggest beef with LeBron is that he's too damn passive. What exactly have the Spurs done to stop LeBron from having more games like did in GM 2? I just get the feeling he doesn't lay it all on the floor. Exert his will. You never got that feeling with MJ. +1

NBA Thread 2013-2014
QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Jun 12, 2014 -> 11:40 PM) I guess LeBron not laying it all on the floor is the reason the Spurs are destroying the Heat's defense like they are playing a bunch of high school kids. It isn't game but LeBron could take more shots and it still wouldn't make any difference at all until the Heat figure out their D (and frankly I'm just not sure the Heat have the personnel to stop the Spurs this year since Ginobili is playing good basketball again and every single player on the Spurs who takes 3's has been burying them). IMO this is only partially true. If Lebron shows up for more than two quarters out of the last eight (basically Q1 in game 3 and Q3 last night), maybe the Spurs aren't up 20 and the Heat aren't being demoralized. I agree with your second point that the Spurs just have more talent and the talent is playing well, but I'm not buying that Lebron is having himself a great series and its the supporting cast that is causing them to lose. He's a part of the losing as well with his inconsistent, straight-up no-show at times play.
