  1. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 13, 2014 -> 10:12 AM) Great job of ignoring the hundreds of billions of dollars of increased spending on disaster relief over the past few years. Because we never had the need for disaster relief before? And the only possibly explanation is climate change?
  2. It'll take hundreds of years. Think about the world 200 years ago. Why do we think coastal cities will still be the norm? Why do we assume we won't have technology to deal with it later? f***ing Al Gore and his doomsday scenario crap. I love that you guys were all over the Bush Admn for fear mongering and you don't see how Gore & Co. startedthe same thing. I'm still waiting for the non-stop category 5 hurricanes and tornadoes we were supposed to get ten years ago.
  3. My wife and I looked into it, but it seemed like we would be the youngest people there by far (we're 32 this year). Maybe in a decade we'll look into it again.
  4. Meh, no one visited anyway.
  5. Playing often enough is absolutely key to getting better. Even if it's just going to the range. You have to get that muscle memory down.
  6. Out of curiosity, what's everyone's handicap or what do you typically shoot? Back in high school when I was playing daily I was down to a 6 or 7. Anything over 80 I was pissed, although my best round was even par 72. Never shot under before. Then I went about 8 years playing 2-3 times a year at most, if at all, so it crept back up to like 15-16. This year in 5 rounds i've been between 83 and 90. Still not where I was, but it's partly getting used to a new set and partly not being out nearly as much. If you take away the first 3-4 holes on every round, I bet i'm down in the low 80's high 70's again. But for some reason (age, I guess), it takes me a while to warm up and get a good swing going.
  7. Spending money on irons depends on how good your swing is. Are you the type of player that averages 7's and 8's on par 4's because you'll worm burn some shots? New clubs probably won't help. But if you're consistently hitting the ball with solid contact and shooting in the 80's, a new set (new being new within say 5 years) will help you drop 5-8 shots simply because clubs these days are much more forgiving. Instead of getting the ball to the side of the green, you're hitting it on the green. I'm also a believer that a really good driver is a must. I have two friends I play with who are terrible. They play with old clubs, including old drivers, and both barely drive 100-150 yards because they consistently pull up and miss or top the ball. I let them use my R1 and they're hitting it down the fairway 225-250. Something about the new head sizes and the more forgivable sweet spots on the new clubs really do help. The adjustable stuff is a gimmick, but the ability to change loft is nice, especially if you're someone who wants to play more and plans to get a little better over the season.
  8. I'm jealous. My wife refuses to try.

    Who hasn't? Also, crazy episode.
  10. Gah, only 7-8 more months of talk/speculation. http://illinois.247sports.com/Article/Illi...argets-28558065
  11. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ May 9, 2014 -> 02:47 PM) By all accounts, Melo wants to play for Thibs. So, if you move Thibs, then you lose your chance at that star. If that doesnt bother you, then by all means, let him go. But lets be honest, this front office has done itself no favors in the ways they have handled management. Ron Adams being let go, the contentious nature with Thibs, choking VDN, Skiles leaving, Cartwright firing. It has been really ugly. So, if it blows up with one of the highly regarded coaches in the league, then you are risking nobody wanting to come coach this team, which will also lead to not many players wanting to play in Chicago(which is already a problem). This team isnt the Lakers. They cant afford to consistently put their worst foot forward and hope for the best. All good points. But I don't think in this situation they necessarily have to be public about what they want/don't want. They're keeping their options open. I think that's the smart play here.
  12. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ May 9, 2014 -> 01:20 PM) I would say "Why dont the Bulls FO just come out and say he is unavailable so this nonsense can stop" But, it is the Bulls front office. Why do they need to? They have Thibs under contract. They can keep quiet and let a bidding war start. If you're GarPax and a team like the Lakers would give you their lottery pick + maybe take Boozer of your hands for Thibs and something else, wouldn't you have to think hard about it? Coaches improve teams in the regular season. Stars win playoff games. If you don't have the talent, you're not winning, no matter how good your coach is. That's been proven year after year, so why would the Bulls put coaching first if they could land another potential all-star/superstar?
  13. QUOTE (greg775 @ May 9, 2014 -> 02:04 PM) Kansas took away tenure for teachers now. Weird state. Good, tenure is a dumb system anyway. I had too many teachers in high school that were just showing up to cash dem checks. They knew their performance didn't mean anything and they taught accordingly (preemptive strike: obviously this is not true of ALL teachers).
  14. Both broadcasts were awful last night. I couldn't stand more than 5 minutes of either. The completely manufactured Jerry Jones will he/won't stuff was such nonsense. Dude just handed out 100 million to Romo, there was zero chance he was taking Manziel. But, that's typical ESPN. Create story, beat story to death, get ratings.
  15. A CB. Meh. Should have gone with the safety.
  16. QUOTE (Soxfest @ May 8, 2014 -> 07:49 PM) Buffalo got a huge playmaker. Gives me a reason to watch my AFC team Bills. They did, but Cleveland is still probably getting a top 8-10 pick next year out of it.
  17. And what a haul for Cleveland for moving down 5 spots.
  18. Like the Bortles pick. I think he's going to be a good pro. Problem is, Jacksonville has no one to go with him.

QUOTE (Brian @ May 8, 2014 -> 02:14 PM) And despite liking the final season, I can easily see this being a show where the finale is despised by most. I'll be upset if it's one of those "and life goes on" type endings. I don't need Don to die or anything drastic like that, but for all this build up of redemption and change, he better, you know, redeem himself and change.

I think Breaking Bad ruined it for me. I want something to happen in the 50 minutes I'm watching, something I haven't seen before. Mad Men is just interesting conversations/scenes, which at times can (and has) been great, but too often it's just repeating past themes. Again, that entire episode arc with Don wasn't interesting. It was old and boring. We've literally seen him do this 50 times in the past. Hell, the previous episode he was at home drinking, sulking, at rock bottom, and then he "redeems" himself by accepting the lesser role at work. And we just went through the same crap again this episode. I enjoyed the hippy commune stuff, that was fun seeing Roger in that environment. I enjoyed Peggy's difficulty/unease with the situation with Don and the new account. Everything else has been done before and is no longer interesting.
  21. QUOTE (farmteam @ May 8, 2014 -> 11:20 AM) Just finished my last final. See ya, law school. Now for the bar (hard, but not as hard as it's built up to be), and then unemployment for a year! Congrats!
  22. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 8, 2014 -> 01:31 PM) No, not really. Ticket sales have zero to do with this decision, even if the game doesn't sell out it could still be a major success to them. It's also a 20,000 seat basketball arena, not a 70,000 seat football stadium. I think you are slightly over exaggerating how empty the place will be. They didn't move the tourney to Pullman, Washington. It's not ticket sales i'm worried about, it's people filling the seats. Almost every year we have teams that aren't expected to make the finals make the finals, and when that happens a huge walk-up crowd grabs tickets from fans of teams that were expected to stay the weekend but don't. That's going to be much harder for people now.

QUOTE (flavum @ May 8, 2014 -> 01:38 PM) I'm never not going to like Mad Men (they're too close to the end for that). But this show would have been better off as 5-6 great seasons, and leave on top. Breaking Bad did it right. Totally agree. It's been slowly going downhill, even with some standout episodes/scenes.
  24. Jenksismyhero replied to Kyyle23's topic in SLaM
Alright seriously Mad Men, wtf. Do you really expect us to believe for the 19th time that Don has hit rock bottom and is going to change his ways?
  25. He might when half an arena is empty for the championship game. How's that going to look on live TV 20 minutes before Selection Sunday starts?
