Also, Cliff is not taking any more visits, including his rumored trip to MSU. Illinois does get another in-home visit this week though.

Official Recruiting Thread II
QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Oct 30, 2013 -> 02:55 PM) That would be huge for the Illini, he's a stud. Marcus Jackson said there were no silent commitments over the weekend. But I still think Illinois is in good position with Matthews. Devin Robinson is going to Florida. Wasn't he an Indiana lock at one point? Sounds like Crean might get Lyle, but this years class started with so much promise and is now pretty bad.

OBAMA/TRUMPCARE MEGATHREAD
It makes no sense to me that a health young person who doesn't use health care as often needs to pay MORE for coverage. If anything, they should pay the least amount out of anyone.

OBAMA/TRUMPCARE MEGATHREAD
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Oct 30, 2013 -> 01:15 PM) Anybody who is surprised that the high-deductible, low premium "catastrophic" plans were not going to be available in the future is a dummy. This is has been clear law since the start of the thing. A major part of the reform was the mandatory minimums to ensure that health insurance plans are actually decent plans and not largely useless, and Obama and the Democrats specifically rejected McCain's campaign policy of expansion of those types of catastrophic plans. The WH knew that these minimal coverage plans were going away because that was a major point of the "Protection" part of the law. The WH knew it, Congress knew it, anybody who paid minimal attention to what PPACA actually was should have clearly known it. I don't think it's that cut and dry. It's not only the "pay 50/month premium with a 10k" deductible plan that is going away. I'm going off of what my wife's employer is warning their employees about, so I guess we'll see how the final numbers pan out. The fact is the country was "sold" on an insurance reform bill that gave people the option of a government backed exchange for those that wanted it, and no changes to anyone who didn't. That was a flat out lie.

Edit: and DirecTV has this technology already. Through the app you can control your tv, look through the guide, look at your DVR list and play shows, etc.

Technology catch-all thread
QUOTE (Y2HH @ Oct 30, 2013 -> 10:39 AM) I understand exactly why they're hanging on to IR, it's because like I said, it allows them to make remote controls (and sell them). The proliferation of phones/tablets with WiFi/BT capabilities would render the remote control business obsolete almost overnight. But this is why if Apple (or Google) enters the TV industry, they will get credited with using WiFi or BT to "invisibly control" their televisions/receivers from any device they own, even remotely, and it will get called "revolutionary", when it something Samsung could have implemented a long time ago...and given how prolific their own phones/tablets are, I'm surprised they haven't thought of this. Nope, they'll wait for Apple to do it, then do it themselves and wonder why people call them copycats. I don't really want my TV remote to go away. I don't want to have to use up my phone to control my TV. I use both simultaneously. That's probably the main reason this technology hasn't been implemented yet. It's just not necessary.

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Oct 30, 2013 -> 09:49 AM) Well, he's right, most adults don't. All they care is whatever phone they have does the very few things they use it to do, which is almost primarily text. So long as it does that, they don't care. Most of the people I know with iPhones or Androids (top end models), do nothing but text or make calls...all the rest of what the device is capable of they don't know, and don't care about. I find this hard to believe with apps being so prevalent on phones. And does everyone know the inner workings/power of the components of their phone? No, but so what? I know little about the technology in my car. That doesn't mean I don't care about what my car has/is made of.

OBAMA/TRUMPCARE MEGATHREAD
QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Oct 30, 2013 -> 09:54 AM) Yes it does, because: 1) The shutdown dominated the news cycle for 17 days, which delayed news like this from coming out, which delayed the process of fixing this. 2) Regardless of the accuracy of the claims, negative statements about the Administration are taken with a grain of salt due to the overwhelming unpopularity of Republicans in Congress. There is no "fix" to this problem. It's insurance companies being forced to comply with the mandatory minimums of the law. This has nothing to do with the website issues. And have you seen the last two weeks of news headlines? I don't think negative statements about the WH have been taken with a grain of salt. He's being raked over the coals (well, as much as Obamajesus can be) for the messy implementation of the website. And this week we've got the added "news" that millions of Americans will be paying more and/or are being forced into new plans because of the law and that this information was known by the WH from the beginning. Why are you making this a partisan issue?

NBA Thread 2013-2014
The call that is totally on the refs is the bailout call. I wish that would be stricken from the game. If as an offensive player, you jump into a defender who is in position, or basically throw up a prayer and make contact doing so, you shouldn't get bailed out. Chalmers did that to Rose and got the call. Lebron and Wade do it constantly.

QUOTE (Tex @ Oct 30, 2013 -> 09:41 AM) First off, this has been talked about for years. Plans that do not conform have to be changed. We'll see about increases. My plan dropped this year by a few bucks a month for the same coverage. My dental and vision went up. Seems odd. My wife's employer (a gigantic f***ing hospital of course) sent out a warning that premiums will be rising and various options they normally offer won't be available because of the mandatory minimums from the new law. I'm waiting for the information packet they send every year to see how much we're talking.

OBAMA/TRUMPCARE MEGATHREAD
QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Oct 30, 2013 -> 09:43 AM) To think, if the Republicans had just passed CR/debt ceiling bills in September instead of shutting down the government until October 17, we could have been discussing this three weeks ago and be well down the path to fixing it. Plus, the Republicans would have had more credibility behind their complaints. That's a complaint about the law and a consequence of the law that differs from what the President told the American people years ago (if you want to keep your plan, keep it, this law lets you do that). It has nothing to do with the website or the shutdown or anything in your post.

OBAMA/TRUMPCARE MEGATHREAD
Some Obamacare "expert" from Northwestern's business school was on WGN this morning. He basically called Obama a liar about his "no one will have to change their current insurance plan" promise. He estimated that 75% of private insureds will have to get a different plan, one that significantly bumps their premiums to pay for the mandatory coverage that the law imposes on insurers. Most significantly, your ability to choose a low premium/high deductible plan (ya know, the best option for the vast majority of people out there) is basically non-existent now. So enjoy your higher premiums folks. Hope the massive cost is really worth insuring that small minority of people out there. I'm sure this will also really help the economy over the next 6 months to a year.

I agree that money and my wife top a lot of the fun parts of college, but I miss the freedom. Being able to drink all weekend with friends and watch sports without the apprehension/annoyance of having to go back to work on Monday was awesome.

NBA Thread 2013-2014
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 30, 2013 -> 09:05 AM) They were ice cold a few min into the game, nothing could have stopped a loss there. The calls were really questionable at times though. Mario Chalmers shouldnt get Jordan-esqe calls against Rose. Rose needs to learn to do this. He's old school, I get it. He's going to take the physicality. But be a whiney b****/flopper like Lebron, Wade and Chalmers. That's the only way to get calls anymore. Unless you exaggerate, you're not getting a call in the lane as a guard. Sadly the bad calls against Deng/Butler at the beginning of the game changed everything. Bulls were basically playing 2 on 5 for the stretch they went 31-5. No Deng, no Butler, and an 80% Noah is a recipe for disaster. Add in the fact that they couldn't hit a shot to save their life (open shots too), and well, this should have been the 25 point blowout out it was. At least they made the end a little interesting. I'm sad about it. I wanted a statement game. But the reality is even a statement win from the Bulls means jack s*** right now. The Bulls also lost the first game of the season in 2010 against the Thunder and they ended up in the ECF. I just wonder if come the all-star break they don't make a move to get someone like Love. Deng, Boozer and Mirotic or the Charlotte pick. Would Minnesota turn that down?

NBA Thread 2013-2014
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Oct 29, 2013 -> 02:14 PM) Being under 30 hasn't kept Deng/Noah from being injured every year. The age of the Heat role players is less relevant because of LeBron. They've got defined roles and aren't asked to do more than they're capable of because of LeBron. The Bulls would need at least two guys other than Rose to play the best basketball of their careers to beat the Heat. The minutes = injury argument has no basis in fact. Just about all of the injuries suffered by the Bulls the last two seasons could have happened in the first minute of the first game of the season - Rose's ACL tear, Noah's awful sprained ankle, Deng's f***ed up wrist, etc. Even Noah's plantar fasciitis can't be blamed on an extra few minutes a game - that's a physical make-up injury mixed with a career spent running every day. It could have happened at anytime. And are we going to blame Deng's botched spinal tap on his minutes? If anything blame the Chicago medical team for (1) giving Noah the green light when he should have rested/healed his feet, and (2) screwing up a routine procedure for Deng.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Oct 29, 2013 -> 11:49 AM) Keith Bogans is terrible. I get that. ANYBODY would've been an upgrade. Jimmy Butler is just not that good that the Bulls are going to go from getting waxed in 5 games to beating the Heat now. And Carlos Boozer is still here. That alone kills everything. I forgot you just like to troll in this thread. The start of the NBA season is officially here.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 29, 2013 -> 11:49 AM) I think the only reason the Bulls are going to win tonight is because of Jimmy Butler. Butler is going to put up 45/6/9/4/6 with 80% from the field and 60% from 3 land Playing 48 minutes he better put up those numbers!
