  1. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 12, 2009 -> 01:17 PM) Sort of. News reporting cannot ever remove bias entirely, because its reported by human beings. But you can make an effort to get close to objectivity, and most of the MSM has given up even trying. The solution? Ban the 24/7 news cycle. Everyone can have their primetime slots, but that's it. The reason there's so much bias is that the MSM has to create news in order to keep people watching all day/night long. To do that you need charasmatic people that can speak non-stop on any given subject for a long period of time, which means they're going to have to share how they feel about it. Ted Turner should be jailed for introducing America to cable tv news. It's easily one of the worst "inventions" of the last 20 years.
  2. http://www.cnn.com/2009/TECH/11/12/cnet.xb....ban/index.html can't you just change your gamer tag?
  3. I must be in the minority here. I can't stand the magazine. Besides the occasional story (once, maybe twice a year), the rest of the magazine is worthless. Why do I care about bmx racing, surfing, x games, the bodies of unattractive women that look like men? I hate "Stu" Scott and the majority of their writers. And just in general the tone of the magazine sucks. It's the same tone they have on E:60 - some sort of pompous arrogance where they think whatever they say is the greatest thing ever written/said (E:60 is worse because of that stupid camera work and the black/white washouts they do inbetween segments). The only thing worth checking out is their league previews and fantasy coverage.
  4. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Nov 11, 2009 -> 04:30 PM) I dont really fault Memphis for trying. I think they were banking on AI realizing that nobody wants him as a starter anymore, and that 6th man role is there for him to clamp 5 more well paid years to his career. He doesnt believe in that, so it blew up in their face. He is going to retire or accept it. I think its really a shame because he could really be an asset to a playoff team if he could accept it, come off the bench and just destroy a teams second line players. He would still get a lot of minutes, and score plenty, and realistically save himself some of the constant beating he takes. He is a proud man, probably too proud to accept a lesser role. I think they were hoping that he'd deal with it, be happy with 15-20 minutes a game, and maybe sell some tickets because of it. He's making himself look like an ass though, and really he's ruining any legacy he might have had (which lets face it, at this point his legacy is a whiney ball hog who shoots too much, only had one good year, and was the inspiration for that sweet "practice" remix).
  5. well thanks guys, you just saved me about $35 bucks. I called them up and complained that I'm being charged $39.95 for something i could get for $14.95. They said, hey no problem we'll match. Canceled my current account (with a $9.90 something credit) and then reupped with the new rate. Kinda shady, but whatever.
  6. Big signing day for Illinois. Can't wait to get Richmond, Leonard and Head on campus. Lots and lots of talent coming to Champaign.
  7. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Nov 11, 2009 -> 09:56 AM) Or you can just get ESPN The Magazine for cheap (and its a damn fine magazine, by the way), and you get Insider for free. I thought it was the same? I always paid the insider fee and got the magazine for free. I dunno, maybe I should check what they charge me every year...
  8. Plus it's a measily 35 bucks for a ton of extra content. A couple of the blogs (Olney for example) really make it worth it.
  9. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Nov 11, 2009 -> 09:30 AM) Are you kidding? Sportscenter spent 15 minutes on it and had interviews with LeBron and Co. complaining. Not much more than what they did last night for the Bulls game. And it's not like they were saying "oh what a blown call! Jalen Rose, how horrible was that call on a scale to 10? Did you ever think the refs would make such a horrible call? Can this be up there with the greatest noncalls ever?" "s*** storm" to me is them making a big deal out of it because it was such an obvious mistake. The majority of their coverage had to do with the Cavs losing a 2nd game at home 2 weeks into the season (when it took them the entire season to lose 2 last year), not what an awful call it was.
  10. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Nov 11, 2009 -> 12:34 AM) I imagine LeBron not getting the call and the epic ****storm that would result. He didn't get the foul call at the end of the Bulls game and nothing really came of it. I agree that given the angles on the tv broadcast it was way too tough to overturn. But if you go to ESPN.com's recap they have a video angle from the corner on the other half of the court that makes it look like they got it right. The same recap also says that by rule you can't get a shot off in .3 seconds. Regardless, if the Bulls play a little D in the 4th this is a non-issue. One thing I love about this team though, which is INCREDIBLY rare until the playoffs - they play with some energy and emotion (mainly thanks to Noah). Hopefully it'll last the whole season.
  11. QUOTE (lostfan @ Nov 10, 2009 -> 09:55 AM) They're a lot farther to the right economically. Borderline anarchy. There really is no "medium government" party. According to our "leaders," there can be no such thing. Extremes are the only answer.
  12. QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Nov 9, 2009 -> 02:30 PM) That's not even possible. Kobe, Gasol and Bynum alone puts them over the cap much less adding James' salary and everyone else on the roster. They'd have to do a sign-and-trade with Gasol or Bynum+filler to even get in the neighborhood of feasibility. I think there would be a market for those guys. I don't think it'd take much work either.
  13. or the lakers, which makes the most sense for everyone.
  14. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Nov 9, 2009 -> 10:27 AM) Has anyone played Borderlands? Any good? A renter at best. Can be beaten in 10-15 hours and although people claim there's some replay value, I ended up selling it back after I beat it. You basically level up a guy and get new guns, which is fun, but you can beat the game after reaching about level 30 (despite the fact you can level to 50) and there are so many guns that finding an awesome one doesn't really do much for you, because you'll just find a better one an hour later. If you have 3 other friends that want to play it, I'd suggest renting it and hammering away for a week or so. That's fun. But otherwise I'd skip it.
  15. QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Nov 9, 2009 -> 11:10 AM) I'll tell you what the problem is, and it's not Lovie. It's the actual players. The Bears have a garbage OL. Harris really isn't that bad as a DL, though he's not the same as before though. Tillman shouldn't be your best CB. The only guys worth keeping as starters on defense are Briggs and Alfalava. The rest are pretty trash. It's Lovie's fault that this is one of the dumber teams in the league (stupid penalty after stupid penalty), it's gotta be partly Lovie and Turner's fault for the play calling, and it's definitely Lovie's fault for not being able to adjust to ANYTHING that happens on the field. The last three games the Bears have looked entirely unprepared in nearly every facet of the game. That's a coaching problem. But yes, the team itself also sucks. I dunno why they (Angelo especially) gave up our only decent pick this year to pick up yet another underperforming and over valued defensive player. In order of sucky this teams needs: 3 more OL, 2-3 more DL (Brown is the only one i'd keep), 2-3 CB's, at least one new safety, and at least 2 WR's. Unless they decide to spend a massive amount of money (not likely), this team is going to suck for at least the next 2-3 years.
  16. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 6, 2009 -> 11:13 AM) Classic relationship mistake is faking something because later it will come out that you lied. Better to be yourself and the lady can take it or leave it. It will work out better for you in the long run. Most people try to hard to cover up their true selves through the first many months or even years of a relationship when its really better to just be yourself in the first place and if they arent a good fit then they can go kick rocks. My suggestion: Insult Tyler Perry, ridicule her for going to see that trash, and then tell her that if she needs some lovin, text you later. Second this. If you fake like you like this stuff, she'll just assume/want you to go to more of it.
  17. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Nov 5, 2009 -> 05:49 PM) None of that really matters. The fact that they can change the terms and say, if you don't like the changes, you can cancel now...well, what kind of alternative is that? I sort of need my phone...so great, you want to change the rules now and my options are to agree with them or be without a phone for now, until I find another carrier and buy a completely NEW phone? Yea, because that's a great option to have. heh. No, they don't force you to stop using the phone, you just have to let them know you don't agree and the new terms won't apply. In essense they're revising the contract and need your ok. But based on provisions in the contract you've already "signed," your silence on any future revision is acceptance.
  18. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Nov 5, 2009 -> 04:01 PM) They can't retroactively change the cancellation policy terms on your existing contract. No, but they can send you notification of the change in your terms and unless you respond by X day it'll change and you'll be stuck. No different than what banks and credit cards do, and there's a high likelyhood that you'll either never see the notification (stuck in like an ad with your bill) or you'll just toss it out of habit. As far as the phone debate, this is like the argument of Zune vs the Ipod. No matter what features the Zune tries to throw at you, in the end it's just a waste because of the foundation the Ipod has laid. The App Store is a good example of that. Iphone will reign supreme just like it continues to reign supreme in mp3 players. That's coming from a guy that hates nearly everything Apple too.
  19. QUOTE (knightd1 @ Nov 4, 2009 -> 07:27 PM) Borderlands.... like Fallout 3 with some Multiplayer. Post Nuke Shooter style. If u like that sort of thing.... I thought that game sucked. The plot was awful, the ending was awful, there were TOO many guns (getting a great gun was awesome, but you got them all the time, so there was never much need to keep anything), money meant next to nothing, and the loot mechanics horrible. I dunno, 3 of my friends and I played through it, beat the game, and then all sold it back.
  20. Apparently Illinois is making a strong push for Beal (#2 in 2011 according to Scout). Leonard (a 2010 Illinois commit) has been talking with him a lot over the last couple of weeks, and Weber and Co. are at his school watching him. That'd be a another huge get for the program.
  21. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 4, 2009 -> 06:22 PM) Does anyone else read those Blue Ribbon reports? I just read the OSU one and it was all sunshine and candycanes, and I was wondering if they are all so positive. Yeah, for the most part they focus on the upside to each player, and then try to temper any inflated expectations at the end.
  22. Dear Gamestop, In this economic downturn, where new graduates are exiting colleges without jobs, please consider this free advice: to maintain customer satisfaction, hire said college graduates (preferably ones with business degrees) and stop forcing me to deal with 18 year old kids who don't understand the simple "deals" you put out every week. Thanks, Jenks Seriously, I spent 35 minutes last night at a store utilizing their "bring in 2 titles and get X new game for $20 or the new Mario for $10" deal. I brought in 4 games to reserve Mario and L4D2. They (the 2 employees working) simply could not figure it out. After 15 minutes, they figured out how to give me the deal. Then they forgot that I had already put $5 bucks down to reserve L4D2 (mass confusion. how does it work if he put $5 dollars towards a game that now costs $20.00??). Then they forgot to give me the extra 10% for being an Edge member. And then the entire time they're doing this, they're completely ignoring the 5 other people in line behind me. In the end I traded in Mario Tennis Wii, Uncharted 1, Call of Duty WaW and Borderlands and got the new Mario for $7 and L4D2 for $7. Not too shabby.

QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ Nov 4, 2009 -> 09:56 AM) I remember blowing off studying for finals during the broadcast of the original mini-series in college. That first one was unrivaled. I forgot this new one it was on, tuned in about 10 mins late, and then my kids were rambunctious so I couldn't really watch it like I would have wanted. All of that said, it didn't seem like too much of anything really happened until the last 5 minutes, although the coming attractions seemed cool. I wish I had recorded it; maybe I'll catch it online. Also, I guess this means somebody didn't survive the season finale of "Lost?" I hate it when one show tips off another like that, although the actor could probably come back for brief flashes. I thought that too, but I'm in hopes that they've already filmed the majority of this season of V, so she's free to finish up Lost when it starts shooting (which has to be now, or soon, if it hasn't already started).

QUOTE (hogan873 @ Nov 4, 2009 -> 09:51 AM) Agree. Flash Forward is a great show. Pssh. How can you guys sit through that horrible acting by the lead guy? It's like having to watch the Dark Knight with Christian Bale using his Batman voice for every scene, including his Bruce Wayne stuff. It's beyond awful. He makes everything so serious that it becomes a joke.

Ugh. SO lame. Add that to the list with Flash Forward as shows with a good premise but awful execution.
