QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Feb 3, 2009 -> 10:38 PM) Per Rivals, Michael Buchanan (4-star DE from Homewood-Flossmoor) picks Illinois. He and Justin Green help offset the loss of Drummond and Carradine. Let's hope Appelton stays with Illinois, too. Appleton to Wisky. Big loss, but I'm impressed with Zook's recovery from the pretty dismal last couple of weeks. Not a great class, but not a bad one either. -

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Feb 3, 2009 -> 06:54 PM) It is possible you just want him on your team? And I'm not sure an uber-prospect with probably one of the largest upsides of any player in the conference needs a "welcome" broken nose because he's a freshman. Not really. I don't think he's any better than Tisdale or Davis, but he does have one less year of experience. I just think sometimes his attitude comes off as being a punk. There's being confident, and there's being cocky. I dunno, the Illinois game rubbed me the wrong way I guess. I also saw him staring down a player on MSU. Both times they were losing. -

also, i think mullens is a punk (or at least acts that way on the court). i was glad to see him "shush" the orange krush as his team got blown out. it's too bad a harris elbow didn't smack him in the face as a "welcome to the big ten youngin'" -

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Feb 3, 2009 -> 06:05 PM) God Big Ten refs are so bad. A Purdue player ran into a pick and because he fell down the ref called it a trip. Everyone on the court was laughing because it was such a terrible call. if you're talking about the one called against mullens it looked to me like he stuck his leg out as kramer tried to squeeze past him. i've seen worse calls than that. -
that and The Show is close to surpassing MVP. Presentation is already better. Gameplay is close. My PSN name is IbKillin and I'd totally be down for the Show draft/league

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jan 30, 2009 -> 12:10 AM) Had a bad feeling about this game all week. I've really got nothing to say. That was the worst performance by an Illini team in the Bruce Weber era. I kept thinking back to the Heat/Bulls game in 1999 when we lost 82-49. That's how bad it was. With MSU winning, the Big Ten title is pretty much out of reach. Which I'm not at all upset about. This team has overachieved all year. But god damn that was UGLY. Let's not go that far. MSU has to play at illinois still and could lose another somewhere. They lost to NW, so anything is possible. We still have half the season to go. -

hopefully this is a humbling loss for them. last years team didn't play this bad, and that was one of the worst in the history of the program. -

QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jan 29, 2009 -> 09:19 AM) I dont agree with that large of a top tier My top tier right now is UCONN, Pitt, Oklahoma, UNC, Louisville Then right behind them I'd place Duke, Texas, Marquette, MSU, Xavier After that I think there is a definite drop off. If you look at some of the ranked teams right now, I think it speaks more to their record then it does to the actual quality of their team. Syracuse, Purdue, Clemson, Butler, Memphis and Illinois I dont think are anything special. Teams like Gonzaga, Georgetown and Arizona State however I do feel like they are capable of making a run. Then there are teams like Florida, Kansas, Notre Dame, Baylor, FSU who are unranked but better than some of the ranked teams IMO (St. Mary's, Washington, Purdue). Basically, saying there are 10-15 teams in the top tier I feel is too many. I would be shocked if no one in my top two tiers I listed wins the Tourney, but i'd be willing to bet a lot it comes from my list of 5 tier 1 teams. But of course there are 20-30 teams who can challenge a top team given the situation, I dont dispute that (look at Ok St the other night) but to do it for 6 games? No. George Mason and Villanova won't show up again for a looong time. Who has Gonzaga and Georgetown beaten to deserve that? Georgetown is not going to be in the top 25 next week after losing to Cincy last night. Same with your second tier of Kansas (who i admit looks decent in a mediocre big 12), Notre Dame (the most overrated team in the country), Florida and ASU. We'll find out more about Clemson once they start playing the big boys of the ACC, Memphis we won't know until the tourney because they play in the worst "major" conference in history. Syracuse just lost to Providence, and their win over notre dame is looking less impressive each game the irish play. I also don't see the hype for Louisville. They beat a good Pitt team at home, but they lost to a team like Minnesota. I agree that there are about 10 teams right now that could win the whole thing, and then a second tier of about 10 teams that could win 3-4 games in the tourney and make a run. -

QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Jan 28, 2009 -> 07:01 PM) That was not even close to a clean play. He clearly throws an elbow that hits Jackson square in the face. If you watch that and think that is a clean play, well then you badly need your eyes checked because I fear you are going blind. Ok, I take it back. I was watching the replay while playing Gears so I didn't see him extend the elbow. That is pretty flagrant. I'm suprised the ref that was running by didn't see it. -

QUOTE (JuiceCruz16 @ Jan 28, 2009 -> 08:17 AM) That was a cheap shot by the kid from Wisconsin with the forearm on the pick against Jackson. I think it was Krabenhoff? I wonder if he will get a game suspension or at least some sort of punishment from the league. Anyway a nice win for the Boilers. From the reply it looked like a clean play all around. Jackson had no idea the Wis player was there, until he was on the floor looking up. I'm really kind of suprised by Wisconsin right now. Their offense is never going to run up and down all game, but they just can't seem to manufactur anything. Take away some of the unexpected 3's by the freshman big guy (something with a "k") and that was a blow out loss at home. And their D was terrible. I dunno how many times Moore drove, not even hard, and ended up with an easy layup. -
I'll have to check out the White Chronicles. I went ahead and got Left 4 Dead this weekend. I've got three other friends that play it online all the time. After spending a solid 8 hours yesterday (no football or good basketball games forces Jenks to be a nerd) playing through the 4 campaign chapters and a versus match, I'd have to say that game is up there in my all-time favs. It's awesome. Anyone else play?

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jan 24, 2009 -> 05:06 PM) Wisconsin had 59 shot attempts to Illinois 42 shot attempts. Leur 1-6, Bohannon 1-7, Wisconsin has no chance with those shooting splits. I think from this loss they may have found something to at least stay competitive with Purdue next game. But it all comes down to shooting, if they cant hit 45% of their attempts from the field they just arent going to win many games. I was surprised how reliant Illinois was on McCamey, prior to this game he hadnt seemed to be the focus, but this game he just wouldnt miss. The majority of those shots were rushed shots nearing the end of the shot clock. Illinois played an awesome defensive game but the offense sagged a bit in the 2nd half. The biggest stat of the game: 18/22 from the line for Illinois, and 9/10 to finish off the game . Last year that number would have been 10/22 resulting in a loss. Big game coming up against Minnesota at the barn. I think if we get through that and Iowa we're sitting pretty with a couple of tough games left. -

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jan 24, 2009 -> 04:02 PM) Wisconsin is shooting 9-27. If thats "as well as they can", I doubt they will win any other games this season. Leur is 1-5 and has missed some easy looks, Landry has missed some in close as well as Krabbenhoft. If they cant shoot above 50% they have no chance to win. From what I have seen they arent even going to come close to that, they are just completely off and no one seems to be able to score. i'm just saying they aren't missing easy shots. they just can't get shots. -

Apparently ESPN is too busy sucking Duke's asshole ("there's no dispute who the best team in the country is" ... after blowing out a TERRIBLE maryland team) to cover the Harris situation. Hopefully everything turns out ok. As to the Ill-Wis game, I continue to be impressed with how well Illinois runs their offense. It looks like Wisconsin is playing about as well as they can - it's not like their missing bunnies or open 3's - but Illinois is just executing their offense a lot better. I still think this game is going to go down to the wire though. Hopefully Weber is giving that "its a 40 min game" speech in the locker room. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 24, 2009 -> 01:25 PM) Just some of his tactics in the media (ie: Self's funeral) and that he always seems to have excuses. There's other stuff, regarding recruiting, that I don't feel like getting into. Just for the record, he didn't do that for the media. He did that for his players. And I still think it was a fine thing to do. There was too much talk/dissention on the team about the whole thing. And pretty much right after he did that the team went on a ridiculous tear - the 2nd half of that season, and then the 37-2 national runner up season. Nor do I think he's ever made "excuses." Even through the Samscum/Gordon saga he never whined except to say that there's a thing called ethics and Samscum wasn't really being ethical. And he totally owns up to his recruiting failures (a good piece on that is coming out in the new ESPN magazine). -
Anyone buy Braid for the 360? I'm looking for another cheap-y arcade game since I finished up with Fable II. It got ridiculously good reviews. The demo was ok, but I have a feeling it limits you pretty severly cuz I couldn't finish the first puzzle/level. Speaking of Fable II, the game that basically made me get a 360, I'll give it an 8 out of 10. The main storyline is so incredibly short that I was really disappointed. Fortunately I still managed to spend 20-30 hours on it because I did the majority of side quests and built up my professions. There is still a ton to do, but it felt to me like Zelda if you got to play one big dungeon. I'm also disappointed with the lack of any multiplayer dimension. I think that could have taken the game to another level (basically merging it into an MMORPG style game), cuz right now there's not a whole lot to keep me playing, except to get more "nerd points" (achievements). Since your guy/gal ends up being different depending on what you use your XP on and what you spend your $ on, it would have been fun to have a place to meet up with other people and do party quests or something. Perhaps that'll be implemented in Fable III.

NW almost beat MSU in Evanston a couple of weeks ago. They had a big lead in the 2nd half. I never thought they'd beat MSU at home though. What's up with MSU lately? They look unbeatable for 2 weeks and now this. The Big Ten race just got a lot more interesting. -

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jan 20, 2009 -> 07:54 PM) Ah it wont last, they have alot of difficult road games coming up, so there will be some CLEAR losses. They are very consistent though, they could have easily played down to OSU's level of sluggishness in this game and instead they took it too them and ended the game early. The Big Ten is only going to get better and they are going to surprise alot of teams in the tourney. Oh I fully expect another loss or two, but to be up like 12 pts with 10 min to go @ MSU says to me they can play and win anywhere. They just gotta learn to close out games. Agreed on the Big Ten. ESPN keeps touting the ACC and Big East, but as you and Musberger pointed out, #1 SOS and #2 RPI belongs to the Big Ten. -

Solid win for Illinois. I think the greatest thing about this season is that in all seriousness (and not any homerism), Illinois probably should be undefeated or a one loss team at worst. In all of their losses (Clemson, @ Michigan and @ Michigan St) they had double digit leads at some point in the 2nd half but let the game slip away. I think those losses are the best losses because you learn that you can play with top teams, but also learn that it's a 40 min game. I dunno that I've seen a team execute offensive sets as well as this one, and that includes the 05 team. The passing and motion are outsanding at times. Wisky up next. Should be fun. -

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jan 20, 2009 -> 06:53 PM) Oh yeah, supremely talented with underdeveloped basketball skills. Thats basically the story. They are entirely made up of first and second year players since everyone keeps going into the draft. If a nucleus stays together a few years they will be a great team, but it never happens. For instance, they have 3 future NBA picks starts for them right now, 2 frosh and a soph. How many of those guys stay more than 2 years? None. Quick edit: You sound 100 percent like posters on the OSU bball site. They actually beg for Matta to ignore the top tier recruits. I dunno that I'd go that far, but if you're getting 2 top 10 recruits (as he is in 10...not sure about 09), you might as well try and develop a couple of 3 and 4 star guys that'll stay a couple of years. In his defense I don't think he expected Conley to jump ship so soon. A guy like that would really help. I don't see any of these guys in the NBA next year, so at least they'll develop at least one more year.
