  1. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jan 20, 2009 -> 06:47 PM) Did they move the student section or something? I havent watched a ton of U of I games lately, but the section used to be more prominent in the broadcasts. It looked to me like everyone was there tonight, but there hasn't been much to get excited about. They got a little louder during the run at the end of the half, but it's been a grind it out jump shot game so far.
  2. Pretty dominant half by Illinois. Take a few of the tip-ins away and this is an 18-20 pt lead at the half. I envy Matta's ability to get 5 star recruit after 5 star recruit, but this team shows why you need a few 3-4 year players in the mix. They have no leadership and really no ability to create offense except off the dribble. Obviously Lighty is missed.
  3. not sure about the attendance, but this might be the worst i've ever heard musberger and lavin. soooooooooooooooooooooooo boring. Do they have nothing to talk about?
  4. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jan 19, 2009 -> 01:39 PM) Studies have PROVEN that there is NO difference what so ever between a $20 HDMI and a $100+ HDMI at the same length. But they're gold plated!

I've been watching random episodes from the last 2 seasons to get me geared up. The Constant (the one where Desmond keeps flashing from the "present" to the past) is awesome. So was Further Instructions (Locke and the sweat lodge) and I can't remember the name of it but the one with Desmond when he meets the old woman and decides to throw the ring in the river. I still say the season 3 finale was the best 2 hours of television. Possibly ever.
  6. I thought the first episode was meh. It had it's good moments - Murray of course...I love that nobody knew he left and his note telling people to "stuff it" was still on his desk - but the songs weren't all that good. I actually thought the last one was the best but it was played during the credits. I dunno why they didn't incorporate that into the show.
  7. Pssh. Purdue has shown me absolutely nothing to deserve any ranking or expectation that they'll compete for a conference title. Their only good win is against Wisconsin at home. Davidson is not a top 25 team - that ranking is all about Curry and TV numbers. Recently they've lost to Penn State and escaped Northwestern on luck. I'd rank them like this: MSU Illinois/Wisky Minnesota/Michigan Penn State/Purdue OSU Iowa Northwestern Indiana I think 2-5 is a toss up though. MSU is good only because of their athleticism, not because of skill or ability to run offensive sets. Illinois and Wisky are kind of the same team. They lack the athleticism but they have skill players that know how to play. Minnesota is still a big question mark. No big win (Louisville is also overrated IMO) but no terrible loss either. Michigan is good if they hit their shots, average if they don't. To me Purdue is Illinois' football team this year. They came in with a lot of questionable hype. They overachieved last year, and are underperforming this year. I see them being average the rest of the way, with the ability to put a good win in at some point. Penn State looks to be a dangerous team because they play good D and can shoot. Sort of like Michigan. OSU is too banged up with no leader. Iowa and Northwestern just lack talent. And Indiana well...everything a bad basketball team is they have. I'll say the league gets in 6 - MSU, IL, WI, MN, MI and PU.
  8. and illinois pisses away another game. happened with clemson and with michigan. oh well, wasn't a game we were supposed to win anyway.
  9. Most annoying play in college basketball: the big guy sealing off 1-2 defenders for the guy driving to the hoop. When I played ball, we called that a moving screen. Apparently they don't call that in the post.
  10. wtf is going on with the refs in this game? what was that shot clock call? i'm guess since they missed whether it was a violation and there was no time left on the clock they just gave them the ball with one second.
  11. so far MSU is proving they have superior athletes but not superior basketball players
  12. Why should Illinois fans care about Minnesota's success? Haven't we beaten them like 16 times in a row now (including 2 or 3 times last year...our worst in the history of the program).
  13. Purdue is making that Illinois win not look so impressive.
  14. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Jan 5, 2009 -> 05:19 PM) They were an awful team last season, and their one game that a lot of people saw was a loss at home. That's not a recipe to be ranked, and I think it's an exercise in futility to argue they should be ranked the day after a road loss in which they played deplorable defense. I agree it's worthless (hence why I said the polls are crap). I was just pointing out the fact that Illinois not being ranked is a joke, further proving how worthless the polls are, especially when teams like Gonzaga are still ranked higher.
  15. How Illinois is not ranked is beyond me. Beating a top ten team on the road with losses to 2 top 25 teams? Come on.... I know the polls mean crap, but it bugs me that the coaches don't show any respect (continuing to vote Gonzaga at or near the top 25 is laughable).
  16. So my gf is amazingly awesome and got me a 360 for xmas. I now have all three consoles and no life (yay to being half unemployed). I picked up Fable II and Age of Booty (arcade game). Both are loads of fun. After a week or so of playing, I'll give the 360 props for the streamlined look and the ease of playing online with friends, but I still feel the ps3 is a better total multimedia package. Anyone have any recommendations for 360 exclusives? I'm not a big Halo fan, but I thought I might eventually pick up Gears 2.
  17. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 2, 2009 -> 04:06 PM) The Titans, Vikings, Ravens, Dolphins, Steelers, Panthers, Falcons, and Giants all agree that it's a pretty good philosophy. In that list you have two teams that have stellar franchise rookie qb's, four qb's that have already been to a superbowl, one team with the best back in the league (and a good D), and two teams with the top 2 defenses in the league year in, year out. I would take all of those QB's over the last 26 the Bears have thrown out. Pennington might be the one exception, but even if I were stuck with that choice, I'd sign him and put him in competition with Orton.
  18. "Mike Davis had 10 points despite being slowed by tonsillitis." That'd be where Mike Davis was.
  19. Good game for Illinois, even though they lost. I really thought they played well until about half way through the 2nd half. Where was Davis today? Still too many errant jump shots, but they continue to show me that instead of cowering from adversity like last year, they play through it. They took 3 or 4 big punches in the 2nd half and responded. They just couldn't respond to the last one. Michigan looks like a much improved team, but until they learn to get the ball inside they're going to be a one and done. You live and die by the 3, which is why they can win big games but lose bad games. Still though, if you're a Michigan fan you have to be excited. 1 out of 2 on the road to start the conference season is great, especially when they started AT Purdue and AT Michigan with little rest.
  20. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jan 3, 2009 -> 04:06 PM) BTW, I cant believe you snuck this post through the Illini buzzsaw. Probably because it was one of the more idoitic things said on this board (no offense), almost as idioitic as ISU beating not only Illinois, but also Purdue (a whopping 30% of the time...). Stack up Webers' big wins against anyone in the Big Ten and only Izzo beats him, with Ryan a close second. In terms of overall career, Tubby would be 2nd, but he hasn't done anything for a decade. And totally agree on the homerism. Homerism is fine so long as you can be reasonable about it. I agree that IF McCamey and Legion play to their potential (which they haven't yet, and there's no guarantee they will) they would be a top 10-15 backcourt. But about 40 teams in the country could say that about their players. I completely disagree that ISU is in anyway better than UI, including their backcourt. Tell me someone they've matched up against thats worth anything. Since you can't, your argument fails. edit: "you" being kjshoe
  21. I'm not sure about Iowa's future, but I do think the Big Ten is going to have a run as being the best conference here in the next few years. I think we'll have at least 6-7 tourney teams year in and year out (ILL, MSU, WI, PU, OSU, and MN, then eventually IU, MI, and maybe IA. Heck even Penn State looks good this year). Gone are the last couple of years where we've had one, maybe two great teams. I was impressed with Iowa's comeback, but I haven't been too impressed with OSU all year, especially now that they're injured. Good teams don't allow mediocre teams to come back on you from 15-16 down, at home. I've watched a fair amount of Big Ten Hoops (especially the big ten openers) and I've been impressed with MSU, WI, ILL, and PU. I think the Big Ten winner will be one of those four.
  22. No those were all made for the psp I'm pretty sure. God of War definitely was. The first syphon game might have been for ps2, but I dont think it was.
  23. I disagree. You don't put up games with 300+ yards and 3+ td's unless you have talent. Plug Orton into the Patriots offense and you wouldn't get that kind of production. And their running backs were not solid - they were hurt all year. Kevin Faulk isn't exactly a quality back. Moss was big, but name me another big time threat they have? I'm not saying he's the next Tom Brady, but give the guy a decent line with some decent passing threats and I think he'll be a winner.
  24. It's an ok system, but I do use my psp much more for media than games (thanks to the link with the ps3). It's nice to be able to stream a movie over the net from my ps3 while at a family gathering. The game selection has been poor, and for that I'm not sure. God of War was great, the Syphon Filter games were great, and most of the sports games (especially baseball and hot shots golf) are also great, but otherwise there just hasn't been much out there to choose from.
  25. What's the status of Cassel going into next year? Is he a free agent? I'd throw a bone at the Patriots and try to grab him. He won a lot of games this year against good teams even though he's got a defense full of 50 year old has-beens. Grant it, he has Moss, but still. Even if we're stuck with Orton next year, lets draft a QB and groom him for the future. I'd be willing to sit through another season or two of mediocre play if it meant that there was someone waiting in the wings.
