Playstation Home finally debuts today. I wish I could tell you how it is, but I keep getting server error messages. Sigh. Why can't these companies roll out massive online games without 2-3 days of problems. Is it really that hard to test before you launch?

I can't remember where I read it, but NBC stands to save $13 million a week on this move, which is for 42 weeks of shows. That's a big chunk of change. Plus factor in the increased ad rev they'll prolly get for being in a more prime-time slot. For once NBC might have made a smart move. Though you have to wonder how much more $ they would save if they could find some decent creative talent to makes some shows worth watching, instead of the crap they've got and that they continue to put out. I don't watch Conan, but I always thought it was strange he signed a contract 4 years before it was supposed to start.

So two things about the Illini v Hawaii game tonight: (1) Gus Johnson rocks. I can't believe the Big Ten Network got him to do this game. I hate Bill Simmons, but I totally agree with him on his love for Gus Johnson. He makes boring games sound like classics. (2) When the Illinois players actually commit themselves to playing defense, they are a really good team. It makes their offense 10 times more fluid and effective. That'll be the goal this season - to get them to be consistent all year and play for 40 minutes. -
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 4, 2008 -> 12:06 PM) So I guess you don't need extra controllers for the 360? What if you want to get on X-Box Live? Well, there's $50/year, while online for Wii is free. What if you want to do so wirelessly? Well, there's another $100 for the wireless receiver, something Wii automatically does. I don't know about the PS2, but the Xbox wireless controller needs a charger or an ass-load of batteries. A lot of your points don't make much sense. I'm saying if you're buying for the intended purposes of the machine. An extra 360 controller isn't a necessity, nor is an extra ps3 one (but you can get a 360 pro with an extra controller, wireless charger and 2 games for $330 at sams club or costco). Yeah, xbox live is an additional cost, I'll grant you that. But the Wii online is nothing in comparison. VC is good, Mario Kart is ok, but it's all very limited. PS3 controller requires no batteries. I guess I'm just saying there's not a HUGE difference. Once you add in all of the components it's all about equal.
-
The thing is though that the Wii isn't really all that affordable compared to the other systems. Sure the base unit is $250, but add in at least one extra pair of controllers (a necessity almost...probably need more than one extra pair if you plan on utilizing the party game thing) and a charger (which is a must have) and you're up to 330-340 plus tax. That's the cost of a 360. $50 bucks more and you've got a nice ps3 with a blu-ray player.

QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Dec 3, 2008 -> 10:47 AM) What??!!! The reason why Frank Williams never made it in the NBA is because he didn't care. He tried to let his talent get him through. He had it in college, he got paid, and then it was gone. Watch all of those classic UI-Mizz games. He could take over a game if/when he wanted to. Once he hit the NBA though he decided he didn't want to and I still dunno why. -

QUOTE (JuiceCruz16 @ Dec 3, 2008 -> 09:21 AM) Purdue got an old fashioned spanking at home by the Dookies. E'twaun did nothing until midway through the second half and Purdue can not survive with that happening against any good team. He is the only real guy who can create his own scoring oppurtunities and when they are facing a good defensive team and he is shut down it's going to be UGLY for the Boilers. J. Johnson must improve his hands as well. He is extremly light in the ass and limited by that, but if he is unable to catch the ball on top of that then their low post options are pathetic. Same old story for Clemson they tried to piss one away with some terrible free throw shooting, etc. They are talented, but still have to learn how to win. I felt bad for the kid from Iowa he had no chance of hitting that free throw. Miami did it to theirself, but I'm not sure an ejection was neccersary for the slap. So far it has been very competitive challenge, hopefully the ACC will take care of buisness today, but I'll be fine as long as UNC continues to play well and handles Sparty tonight. What? Clemson wasn't in the positon to piss anything away. It was Illinois that succeeded in pissing away a win with stupid turnovers, poor defense, and a terrible last possession. My thoughts on the game: If McCamey has dreams of the NBA, he better start playing like he cares. He's the laziest "star" player i've ever seen. Just imagine if he had a little bit of Dee Brown and Frank Williams in him. He'd be the best guard in the conference, and one of the best in the country. Mike Davis...well, he showed a lot, but I'd say 80% of his shots were terrible in terms of form. His body never gets squared to the basket and his upper body always seem to be in front of his feet when he shoots. But whatever - he makes shots and he plays with emotion. I'll take that any day. Tisdale showed me enough last year that he'll be a solid 3-4 year guy. I dunno about the NBA (I dunno that any of these guys will be in the NBA) but I think by his senior year he'll be like one of those white dudes up in Wisky (can't remember their names...the one specifically I'm thinking of had the tuba player girlfriend they always showed on TV) - good to great conference big men. Last night he seemed to be plagued by the McCamey syndrome - lack of emotion and mentally checked out. Chester Frazier. Ugh. I hated you so much these last few years, but I see why Weber continues to play you and I'm beginning to change my opinion of you (for now...till you suck it up next week...) Some sick passes, some big rebounds, always good D and even a nice looking 3. If only you would have found a consistent shot... you'd have been a great college player. Keller. Some good rebounds and a couple of good shots. He looks like the scorer that people talked about when he decided to transfer. Weber. I can't blame anything on him in this game. His scheme was good (when the players executed), his adjustments were good (when the players executed), and he made the right substitutions throughout the whole game. As to the future, I can't wait for Legion. One more scorer on the floor and that game goes Illinois' way by 10-15 pts. I have to believe that defense and decision making are going to be issues all season. I think this is a team that could mold into a tourney team, but they're going to have to stop making the rookie mistakes they keep making. -
"People think I'm pretty obsessed with speed..." Look at me chop 2 peppers and an onion really fast! Or sign four autographs at the same time really fast! "see guys, I told you I could do it under a minute. bwha ha ha!" Ugh. I'm not buying Rosetta Stone just for that commercial.

The PS3 graphics question really depends on the game and the developer. Apparently PS3 is widely different in terms of the language that has to be used for the games to work. It goes both ways. Games like Assassins Creed looked better on the PS3 because Ubisoft is a big ps3 partner. If a developer takes the time to learn it I think it's been proven that the PS3 hardware is better. EA I know is really bad at this, though they are getting better. The first 1.5 years they kept throwing out ports of their games, even big ones like Madden. I think now that the PS3 has a substantial base that more developers will start investing more into learning how to best utilize the system (why it took this long, who knows, but probably because of the amount of sales involved....360 outsold ps3 solely because of the amount of owners). People seem to forget that it took about 2 years for the 360 to get a lot of good games out and lot of good games that utilized the next gen hardware. The PS3 is still young in its life cycle. I expect this next year to be huge. Killzone and God of War are going to be epic.

QUOTE (Texsox @ Nov 24, 2008 -> 10:38 PM) The last time I really studied anything about it the spiral ramp theory seemed to make the most sense. Or as it should be known, tens of thousands of slaves using a spiral ramp theory. Gotta give credit where credit is due. Actually haven't recent finds determined that the people that built the pyramids were actually paid laborers? I'm pretty sure I remember watching a show where they found a small city nearby one of the work sites that kinda showed they were paid - they had taverns, doctors offices, bakeries, etc. - enough commercial activity to assume they had some money to spend.

I didn't care for the ending at all. Was this supposed to be based on Scorsese "saving" DiCaprio's career with Gangs of New York? I dunno, to me you build a whole season around one theme - Vince's career is heading south and on the verge of being over. You build a great scene with Vince and E, where basically Vince blames everything on him, you see them separating, perhaps for good. You see E becoming successful on his own, ignoring Vinces calls (basically getting over the situation and cutting himself off from the drama), and then in the last 2 minutes you wrap it all up in a neat bow with a seemingly random call from Ari, a quick flight to LA, and all is forgotten. This show has never gotten back to a good pace since the first season (where it had none, because it was all about regular dudes getting rich and hanging out with hot women and doing things all guys dream about). These last two seasons have been long stretches of uncertainty followed by 2 minutes of resolution (good or bad). And if their point was to show that things can change suddenly, why not have some dialogue about that? Why not set the audience up for a possible turn of the switch at some point? Instead we're led down this path that Vince's career might be over, E might start something great, Turtle is banging some hot chick, and drama buys a bar (does anyone else wonder why he hasn't been shooting his TV series? And then boom. Career is back on track. I dunno, I just don't buy it, much like I didn't buy Ari turning down the studio job to "be his own boss" followed by two episodes of him having to talk and swindle his partner into accepting a new employee.

Any 360 owner read up on the new netflix service? I have netflix now and the movies/shows available online are pretty slim - basically old movies/indy films I would not watch. I'm assuming those available online are going to be the same ones available on the 360?

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 18, 2008 -> 12:01 PM) Well known? He's an actor in a show only some people watch, and as far as I know, didn't do much worth noting before that. I hadn't even heard of him. A show 16 million people used to watch weekly. Trekkie audience is a little older probably, but I bet a lot of them watch Heroes. Sci-fi related and all.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Nov 18, 2008 -> 12:51 PM) I find it hard not to get worked up over actually even though I know it doesn't even apply to me (I know I'm kind of jumping on Tex for doing that a bit). You know how I interpret it, and why I get all pissed off, to be honest? It sounds like "blacks don't know anything about politics, they just voted for him because he's black." I know there are some dumbasses who did that, and that's whatever, but virtually all of the "he's black" stuff comes from pride in actually seeing a black man get elected - I honestly can't think of a single black person I know that voted for him based on skin color, especially considering if the 2008 Democratic nominee was another white man, they'd have voted for him just the same, percentage-wise. Not to interrupt the solo debat that's going on but... I guess my point was that if you were to ask me why I voted for McCain and I listed off 3-4 things I liked, and then added "and also because he's white, and I feel he has my interests in mind and would do more for me," I'd be labeled as a racist or someone stuck in the 50's way of thinking. If a black person says the same thing, even if race was one of many factors, it would be fine, because it's expected and understood. And maybe racist is a strong word, but certainly I'd be looked down upon for using his whiteness as a factor in voting for him.

Honestly, I don't think much of it. Without an exit poll that asks "are you afraid of a black president" or "did you vote for McCain because he's white" there are just too many other factors that people consider when voting (and even then I doubt you could get an accurate statistic because people would lie). Here's a question I have (and i'm not trying to be racist here). Why is it that a white person can't say "ya know, as a white guy, I thought McCain would be better for me so I votedfor him" without being a racist, but 97% of the black population voted for Obama, a large % of which voted that way simply because he was black, and it's not? I don't see a problem with blacks voting for Obama, I just think it's odd that on the one hand you can vote because of race and it's ok, but on the other it's not.

I think it looks aight, but I hate that they used "Sylar" from Heroes. The whole time I'm watching that trailer I'm thinking, "hey! it's that dude that plays Sylar.....he looks weird." That's going to ruin it for me. They should have found someone who isn't well known.

In a nutshell, Vampires are starting to "come out of the coffin" and integrate into society. The show is set in way down south Louisiana and there's some murders and whatnot that happen.
-
Anyone else watch this show? I meant to start this thread a while ago but forgot. With only one episode left my gf and I are hooked. It's not the greatest show, and they could drop about half the storylines (and actors/actresses), but it's still entertaining and has me geared up each week.
-
I don't, but I'm also a DePaul alum that got his JD almost a year ago and am still looking for a job. Your firm isn't looking to hire is it? I gotta say though, from my own job search, 3 years experience is prime for getting a job. That's what everyone seems to want. You have that going for you.
-
lol, I know what you're talking about and I'm with you. I thought the same thing when I saw the "Australia" trailer. I think that's because the Sox use it as the song for the pre-game history video. We've all heard that a million times by now.
-
Ugh really? I thought it was kinda lame. It's the same mold as the rest of the season, which IMO is no good. Is that storyline even real? Would a studio just drop a movie in the middle of production just because a director and actor are having issues. And really, what director/actor would get the studio head involved? My favorite part of the episode was Drama not being in it. My least favorite was not having E in it. Next week looks ok. I'm interested to see where they take the story now that they secured another season.
