that happens to me like every weekend. -
Just turned in my last project this morning for my Corporate Reorganizations class. I'm finally finished with Law School. My reward? 6 weeks of Bar prep and a date with destiny the last week of Feb.

So I broke down and bought a Wii bundle from Wal-mart. It was like 770 bucks but included an extra set of controlers and 8 games, so it's not like I spent any additional costs, I just had to buy everything at once. Thus far I'm very pleased. Wii Sports is cool, Mario is cool, Warioware is cool. Resident Evil (not 4, the one specific for the Wii) is ok, but I didn't realize it was a "rail shooter." That's all I've had a chance to play so far. Any other Wii owners out there? Anything that I should know?

Over the next few years I think we'll become a passing team. We've got some decent depth at RB, but the real talent is going to be in the WR's. Plus Charest, Juices replacement, is a good pocket passer. I dunno about Scott's rating. Scout still has him as a 4* -

Isn't this the same publication that had Hitler as a top choice for man of the century, but ended up choosing Einstein? I don't have anything against the pick, but I just feel that there were more newsworthy people. I love how they couldn't think of anyone last year, so they gave it to "us." -
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Dec 12, 2007 -> 01:37 PM) At least the music will be good, the Love soundtrack was incredible. We saw Mystire when we were out there and I regretted every minute and dollar of it. Oh wait, maybe it's the Love show. I don't remember. I hate the Beatles, so I'll hate both regardless of whats going on on-stage. What about affordable places to drink? I hear prices are crazy unless you're gambling pretty good and get comp'd drinks. I'm considering the liquor store and our hotel room before we head out.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Dec 12, 2007 -> 12:27 PM) Those are great lists Jason! A couple more things to tack on, the top of the stratosphere is a great view of everything, and not too expensive, plus the roller coaster up there is neat. Also the pirate show at Treasure Island is legendary. Finally skip anything Cirque De Soule if you are a straight male. Lol, doh. That's item number 1 on the agenda - Cirque De Soule Oh! (the Beatles show). Prices are ridiculous but it'll make the gf happy.

Oops, I meant to put this in the Slam forum. Can I get a Mod to move it? Thanks.

Ok, so the gf and I are heading to Vegas tomorrow for four days for my company's holiday party. We've never been out there. I'm not a big gambler, though I'd like to hit up some blackjack tables. Any advice? I've got my little pocket card to tell me what to do. Anything else I need to know? Any recommendations on bars (not clubs) and restaraunts? We're staying at a Westin hotel right in the middle of the strip, about 1000 feet from the Bellagio.

Not to bring it all back up, because we've all talked about it 1000 times, but Gordon, and more importantly his family, are douches for lying to Weber for months and months. Players reneging on their verbals happens every year, it sucks, but it happens. Rarely though are programs literally screwed over for months and months, only to be hit with the change at the last possible minute. As soon as Sampson was hired Gordon should have said "hey, i'm opening up my recriuitment." Weber lost out on a handful of athletic guards because he beleived Gordon, guys that really wanted to come play for Illinois, and guys that are seriously needed on the current roster. All that said, I watch Gordon and Indiana. He's a fun exciting player to watch. There are some over the top Illinois fans who are probably happy he got hurt, but the majority of Illini nation does not think that way. How else are we supposed to get excited about him visiting the real Assembly Hall later in the season if he is hurt and can't play? -

re the conference championship discussion: I think Jim Delaney was smiling big time last night for not having a championship game. No way he gets a) a shot at the national championship and B) two teams in the BCS (i.e. twice the amount of money for the conference) if the Big Ten has one. I'm not opposed to it at all - in fact I think it would make the league better (after they add a 12th team and create two divisions). The problem for the big ten is that their money-maker national game, osu-mich, would become meaningless unless you put them in different divisions and hope they make the final every year. -

QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Dec 2, 2007 -> 09:46 PM) I don't care what the Heisman is about, I know what it should be about. And when Tebow wins it this year, which he should, it will have nothing to do with politics. I don't care what schedule you play, watch games, look at scores, and tell me that Hawaii is a better team than Florida. You were the one who brought up 3 losses. Hawaii played a s*** schedule and barely won many of those games against s*** teams. If you are seriously looking at 3 losses to 0 losses, you need help. You also need to check your hearing, as Jones clearly said that Tebow is a system QB and Brennan is not (while Brennan is good, he plays in a 'system' if I've ever seen one outside TTech). When Rece gave him a chance to get out of it, he didn't and trashed him compared to Brennan, said he couldn't make all the throws, etc. Also, Tebow is nowhere near an 'option QB.' He is a hell of a passer that can run the ball like a RB. His passing efficiency numbers are outrageous and he plays in the SEC against real defenses. Comparing him to Eric Crouch proves your ignorance. And again, how anyone will do on Sundays (or how anyone not named Tebow has done on Sundays) is completely irrelevant to college football or this topic. I never said he shouldn't win it. He's put up great numbers this year in a system that features him...a lot. I brought up three losses because in those three games Florida was down and needed scores. When forced to throw Tebow isn't nearly as good. That was the point Jones was making and thats the point I agree with. I have watched a handful of Florida games this year and when he plays against GOOD teams (not teams like Troy, Florida Atlantic, Western Kentucky, Vanderbilt- oh boy, real tough) and when he's forced to pass he doesn't make all the throws. Yeah, sure Brennan plays cupcakes and doesn't ever play the greatest of competition. But he plays in a system where he's forced to pass the ball, not option it. Moreover, which team is full of 5* recruits? Which team has all-americans on it? Exactly. Any comparison to schedules need to be relative to the amount of talent surrounding them. And Crouch was a stud back in the day, hence why he's a Heismann Trophy winner. But I like how you skipped over other comparisons to Vick or Young. Option qb's suck ass in the NFL. How can you say Tebow is not an option QB? They run nothing but option plays - hence why he has sick rushing numbers. -

QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Dec 2, 2007 -> 09:19 PM) I don't care how they portray into the NFL, and your accuracy on that statement is questionable. The Heisman, or who is a better player than whom, has NOTHING to do with the nfl or draft status. And Tebow is easily the best player in the nation and is having one of the best qb seasons in the history of college football. And three losses? Brennan played me and 10 friends on defense week to week and barely won many of them. They play Florida's schedule and they have more than 3 losses. If the Heisman vote is even close the voters should be ashamed of themselves. Jones sounded like a complete moron. Lol, the Heismann has nothing to do with who is better than who. You don't think there's politicking involved? Hell Mike Hart continued to get pub for it even when he was sitting out games and two or three other big ten running backs had better numbers. And you play the schedule you're given. I don't doubt that if Hawaii played in the SEC or other major conference they wouldn't have gone 12-0. But so what? The fact is he lead his team to a great season. But more importantly, he holds tons and tons of PASSING records for qb's in all of college football. What I heard from Jones was: Brennan is a QB, Tebow is an option QB. Brennan can make all the throws, Tebow is an option QB. Tebow will probably win the Heismann, he had a great year. But how many Heismann winners succeed on sundays? More importantly, how many option qb's succeed on sunday? For some reason the NFL keeps trying, *cough "#10 best player of all time" cough*, yet they never do well. Go ask Eric Couch how the NFL treated him. Lets see, QB, WR, kick returner, towel boy. I see the same thing for Tebow. -

QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Dec 2, 2007 -> 09:02 PM) June Jones just called Tim Tebow a "system quarterback" on ESPN. Basically was trashing Tebow left and right, said he wasn't an accurate passer, etc. That was great - good for him. Tebow has been great this year, but I think guys like Brennan will be playing on Sunday whereas Tebow will be coaching em up on Saturdays. When you put the ball in Tebow's hands down a touchdown or two in the 4th quarter, he doesn't perform. Hence their three losses. -

About Missouri getting screwed, I thought Schlabach summed it up perfectly: "Dallas (Boise, ID): Mizzou left out of the BCS and Kansas got in. What do you think? Mark Schlabach: (8:19 PM ET ) Ridiculous. If I were a coach in the Big 12, ACC, SEC, I'd decline a chance to play in the league title game if my team qualified. Too much to lose. Mizzou beat Kansas during the regular season. Kansas played one of the worst non-conference schedules in the country. Didn't play Texas, Oklahoma or Texas Tech during the regular season. An absolute joke. " As for USC destroying Illinois, if anything, this season has tought us that nothing is certain. And secondly, Standford. Nuff said. I don't care if they were injured or not in synch. USC's second string should have beaten Stanford. Here's a stat for you: USC beat a whopping.....TWO teams with winning records this year. TWO. Obviously USC has the talent to run over anyone in the country, but it makes me sick that people think they are the best team in the country when they have done nothing to prove that. -

QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Dec 2, 2007 -> 02:14 PM) Very simply, I have seen both conferences in depth. The SEC is much better than the Big Ten this year. The depth of the SEC is what sets it apart. Well i'm glad you figured it out! Seriously though, depth is meaningless when you're talking about who the top few teams are. I agree the Big Ten drops off significantly after the 4th or 5th team, but so? That doesn't take away from the top teams. The play the schedules they are given. When an SEC bottom dweller like Mississippi State can get a couple of big wins, that tells me enough. That's like Northwestern beating Penn State or Wisky, traditionally strong programs in the Big Ten. I think its a travesty that LSU is going to the NC. Give me a team that dominated most of their games, even with a loss or two, versus a team that squeaked by half their season and could easily be about 7-5 or 8-4. -

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Dec 2, 2007 -> 01:29 PM) And a QB that can't throw the ball. USC's defense is quicker and better than any defense in the big ten (yes...that includes TOSU) and there offense is faster and far more athletic than any offense in the big ten. I should note that I think Illinois has quite a few very good athletes, but I don't think they have enough good football players to win (especially at the QB position where Juice is far too one dimensional to beat a USC team that is fully capable of both putting up points and stopping the opposition from putting up points). No doubt USC choked massively to Stanford and they weren't playing football like they currently are. Right now USC is playing awesome (the defense is healthy and they have John David Booty healthy and it is making a major difference). Oh and you guys need to remember this is all coming from one major USC hater. USC's other loss was a tough loss to the best team in the country at the time (in the hardest place to play in the country...ie Oregon). This season I feel the Big 12, SEC, and Pac 10 were all pretty solid conferences. Big 12 in the sense that I don't buy into the Kansas and Missouri being horrid teams. I think all three are good teams, with Mizzu being a very good team (top 10 for sure, Kansas a top 10 this season due to it being a down season in college football and OU being a legitimate top 5 team that had one awful loss thanks to there QB going down). SEC has LSU (who is ridiculously talented and didn't really have a bad loss, problem is they had 2 losses), Florida (they are quite good), Tennessee (legit top 15 team), and Georgia (down the stretch Georgia has been a top 4 team and deserve there ranking every bit). The Pac 10 has ASU (who is not quite a top 10 team, but for sure a top 15 team thanks to a strong defense; I'd actually say ASU and Illinois are similar in that neither one is a complete team in my mind but both are solid but unable to compete against the premiere teams), USC (i already made my case) and at this point they no longer have Oregon and Cal but for most of the season both of those teams were legit top 15 teams (Cal absolutely collapsed around mid-season, but when USC played Cal, Cal was still a good team, same with Oregon who was the best team in the country two weeks ago). The Big 10 has Ohio State, who is a legit top 10 team, borderline top 5 team who happened to play an easy schedule (not there fault that the conference was down this year) and due to other teams taking s***s they were able to get the National Championship bid (again I don't fault them, it just happened to work out for em). Michigan is a talented team but injuries to Henne/Hart and just an overall negative vibe from the App State game makes them no better than Top 20 (and that may be a stretch). Wiscy is a borderline top 25 team (they are a decent team, but not a good one). Illinois is the 2nd best team in that conference and after that I really dont' think you have anyone very good (Indy is the next best team and they are completely bowl worthy and a top 35 team but come on, just look at the conference, that isn't strong). This is what cracks me up about trying to pick the best conference. How do we know the SEC was good? How do you know the Big 12 was solid? Seems to me the big 12 is just as good as the big ten - a couple of "top" teams (even though only one team truly proved its better - OU) and the rest were crap. The SEC was the same way. Rankings mean diddly crap because at the beginning of the year the SEC had some highly ranked teams, who then played and beat up each other. So even if Team A sucks and beats Team B who also sucks, if Team B happens to be ranked then it looks like a "good loss" to a "good team." With no reference whatsoever, its hard to compare conferences and decide who is better - unless there's a top matchup, like a Texas-OSU, in the non-conference part of the schedule. And after this season I'm officially just as good at predicting how good/bad teams are than the "experts." I think this season more than any other has proven that there are no "dominant" programs - with the reduction in scholarships more talent is going to mid-level teams, opening up more and more chances to beat "top" teams. -

QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Dec 2, 2007 -> 10:51 AM) What's preventing the Rose Bowl from picking Georgia instead of Illinois?? Tradition, power and money. I would be SHOCKED if the Rose picked an equally qualified Georgia team over Illinois. Yeah, Georgia lost 2, Illinois lost three. Illinois has the best win of anyone in the country, a win AT the home of the for sure lock team for the NC. Personally though, I don't see why Oklahoma can't jump to the NC game. They won their conference championship, have played well, just pounded the #1 team. They have two bad losses, just like LSU has two bad losses to Kentucky and Arkansas. Don't give me this crap about them beating 6 ranked teams - we all know the SEC was overrated and ranked based on reputation, not what was on the field. Moreover, they needed last second trick plays and overtime to win some of those. Georgia in the NC game would be a joke - a team that not only didn't win their conference championship but also a team that didn't win their own division. Honestly I'd like to see Virginia Tech against OSU too. Something different. I'm so tired of OSU and LSU. We just saw that what, two years ago? This is why the system is so messed up. Too many teams to choose from, and someone is going to get screwed. If we had an 8 team playoff, we could rank the top 8 teams that deserve to be there and have them play it out. -

QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Nov 30, 2007 -> 02:22 PM) Wow, and all this just because the kids wanted to name a toy bear after a legendary boxer... lol, zing! It's a "with us or against us" in the since that we view as a FUNDAMENTAL RIGHT the ability to say what we want and practice religion how we want. If it's so fundamental, then it's entirely against our way of thinking if we allow countries to punish our own for it. I'm not saying our way is the best way and we should force everyone in the world to do what we do. Obviously that's not right. But when you have a fundamental belief and the issue involves one of your own then you damn well better do what you can to defend those ideals from intolerant boobs like these Sudanese people appear to be. I'm all for trade sanctions, or economic sanctions, or whatever. It's absolutely ridiculous to condone such activity. The PM of Britain "assured" her family that Britian is "doing all it can" to free her and bring her home. That's bulls***. She's sitting in a jail cell somewhere with her life being threatened. "Doing all it can" means a call to the Prez of Sudan with severe threats if a hair on her head is touched.
