Interesting point of view (global warming debate)
Chet Lemon replied to Jenksismyhero's topic in The Filibuster
If global warming is real, then why am I freezing when I go outside? It is nothing more than a hoax precipitated by the powerful liberal agenda. Lets get Sen. Inhofe in the White House in '08 because he would expose the hoax as liberal fear-mongering and a boon for the Weather Channel. -
QUOTE(Mplssoxfan @ Feb 2, 2007 -> 04:01 PM) As someone who will probably have to choose between Al Franken and Norm Coleman, I have but one thing to say. Yuk. If I were in your position, I would choose the comedian over the empty suit because there are plenty of empty suits in congress, but no comedians.

When I was in high school a few years back, they started up the pledge immediately after the 911 tragedies, but it had always been optional. It was a large, public high school in the Chicago suburbs, yet all sides were happy as far as I knew.

Just because someone thinks we don't have enough troops, doesn't mean they're flip-flopping by opposing the surge. 21 or 22k more troops probably isn't enough "to get the job done" or whatever the hell the talking points call for. If the job is to get all Iraqis to be Weekly Standard subscribers and Fox News viewers, we would need more than 100,000 troops.

Indeed, Gammons failed to realize that Lumsden is currently in the Royals' organization.

2007 Sox. Am I the Only One Scratching My Head?
Chet Lemon replied to LVSoxFan's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I completely agree w/ the first post. Before the '05 season started, I was the only one in my work dept. that loved all the offseason moves, thus I split a season ticket package w/ my boss. Before that year, the most games I had been to in a single season was 9. -
I'm a big fan of Haeger, but I believe Floyd will win the final rotation spot and do a damn good job.

http://www.senate.gov/legislative/LIS/roll...&vote=00018 http://www.senate.gov/legislative/LIS/roll...&vote=00005 Aforementioned links are for two fundamental issues which Obama and Kennedy divided on. These votes were taken place within roughly a week or so. Yes, Obama has done nothing except for making a damn speech! He secured more funding for Ill. wounded veterans who were ranked 48th in terms of benefits paid/available care in the country in his first month as Senator. Support/God Bless the Troops, but only with rhetoric and bumper stickers not with socialisttedkennedybarackhussein benefits!

Richardson is Governor of New Mexico. He will be one the most qualified candidates in the field of all parties.

QUOTE(Jenksismyb**** @ Jan 17, 2007 -> 02:04 PM) I'd also like him to differentiate himself, not just from Bush who's ubber-right republican, but from anyone else thats close to him on the political spectrum. He broke w/ Durbin and mostly every liberal in the Senate last week by voting against Durbin's motion to table an amendment which sunshines earmarks. In other words, he put tax paying citizens' interest of where their taxes are spent over party unanimity.

Are we really out of contention this coming season?
Chet Lemon replied to Jenksismyhero's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I have warmed up to Floyd as of late, so if he breaks camp as our #5, I'm fine with that. I think the Sox will win the division. -
opposed iraq war before it started, claiming to be a hawk on terrorism and that going into iraq was not the route to take (i was in the audience for that speech in 2004 at benedictine) secured greater benefits from VA for illinois veterans who were ranked near the bottom in receiving benefits staunch supporter of successful earmark reform (ie coburn/obama amendment), while not toeing any party line, voting from last week indicates tough ethics reform too (also breaking from many dems, ie did not vote to table the demint amdt.) highly productive meeting in russia to clean up loose nukes in former soviet states w/ sen. lugar via his foreign relations committee assignment i'm not his biographer or anything, i just recalled that from reading the paper and i saw him and keyes speak in consecutive days at a benedictine forum hosted by failed gov. candidate jim ryan. i'm not advocating that you vote for him, but for being a jr. sen in the minority party for his first two years, i believe those are concrete reasons to be elected president.

If Bush's escalation plan is not successful, I wonder how the dark-horse GOP candidates who are now speaking against putting more troops in Iraq will fare with GOP primary voters. Some food for thought: Brownback, Paul, maybe Hagel gets in.
-
I saw some of Lieberman on MTP this morning w/ Dodd, Kyl and Hagel. He was justifying his support for the escalation to Russert by explaining that U.S. soldiers are fighting the people who attacked us on 9/11. Hearing that from an average citizen makes me sad, but from a U.S. Senator who is chairman of Homeland Security, I don't even know anymore.

If Bush's successor is a Democrat, who should be appointed to the Supreme Court? I raise this question for fun, but I get the feeling Ginsburg will retire soon after a Dem is elected (approx. Jun '09) as well as Stevens, who is in good health, but will turn 87 in a few months. He has hinted at retirement, but as one of the court's most liberal members, I don't see him retiring until after the '08 elections. This leaves two potential vacancies for the summer of '09 of the Court's most liberal members. Here would be my two: Jaynee LaVecchia - She would be highly qualified pick, was appointed by a Republican Governor, then approved to lifetime tenure by Corzine (Story Here). She is also a political independent. It would be hard to imagine any serious opposition for this nominee. Lisa Madigan - Although she probably is eyeing a run at Governor, it would be great to see her replace Ginsburg or Stevens (Ill native) as she will only be 43 or 44 at time of appointment, thus giving her at least 30-40yrs. on the court to match Roberts/Thomas who could easily have their S.C. tenure run over 35-40 yrs each.

17 yes, some of those questions were quite dumb

What do you guys think it would take to acquire Willits?

read in the paper today that he was looking for a four-yr. $40 mil. contract.

Would the Nats take Phillips for Church? Washington only has three SP's listed per online depth chart.

good points on the last few pages of posts i skimmed over, but wouldn't McCulloch be more likely to join the rotation over Liotta three years from now?
