  1. QUOTE(SoxHawk1980 @ Dec 18, 2006 -> 04:53 PM) Sweeney is an excellent prospect, but he isn't ready for the majors yet. His 2006 performance in AAA and the majors showed that. We shouldn't slow his development by bringing him up to the majors so that he can sit on the bench as a backup OFer. The fact that he is a little better defensively than Terrero doesn't justify hampering his development. These are my sentiments as well.
  2. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Dec 20, 2006 -> 01:37 PM) What about the White Sox bullpen? Adding Aardsma and Sisco perhaps improves it dramatically? Sisco may be in Charlotte. Boone Logan may be in Chicago. How do we know Thornton will continue to have success? It seems to me all the guys that Coop fixes, seem to fall back a little the following season. Loaisa, Cotts, Contreras. Jenks was mostly good, but had his moments. The bullpen really concerns me. KW has not added anyone who has much of a track record of major league success there this offseason. Your post has hit it right on the head for my concerns going into the 2007 season. There is nothing more I could embelish on that you posted. A very distance second is the 4th OF concern. I will be optimistic and say Pods improves big time from last year. Iguchi, Dye and Crede are also playing for contracts, so their production from last year won't decrease dramatically. Thome, as long as health issues aren't a concern, plus PK are the staple of any 3,4, or 5 spot. AJ has to benefit from the Hall signing. More rest=better ab's. Uribe still gives me pause, but KW is apparently content, so that is all that matters I guess. BA has to show improvement..I would be content w/ at least .240avg/.320obp. The homers and xbh's will come. For Sweeney, the future is bright, but he is probably too green for the job w/ the Sox in '07. Finally, I am also feeling the SP will be a turnaround from last year. Mac doesn't really concern me b/c I think he will step it up similar to how Garland did in '05. Contreras really scared me last year as the last time he was on the hill, he wound up laying on the infield grass in agony from the hamstring injury. If he puts that behind him and gets his head on straight, the pitching could be the best in the AL.
  3. If we could trade for Rios, maybe put him in CF? His career numbers look excellent from hitting in the #2 spot. If Pods imporves his OBP, we would have a nice 1-2 at the top of the order.
  4. What would it take to acquire Mike Gonzalez? He would make the bullpen one of the league's best. Apparently he was offered to the Braves for LaRoche straight up. He missed time last year w/ elbow tendinitis, but now has a clean bill of health. His numbers look great especially for playing for the Pirates and in PNC. Floyd/Rogowski maybe?
  5. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Dec 3, 2006 -> 06:40 PM) I would make that deal in a second, I'm not so sure the Yankees would however. These have been my thoughts every time I hear this rumor.
  6. You did not read my post completely or maybe did not understand what I meant when I said, "I am unsure where both sides are at." This makes number 4 of your condescending response completey irrelevant. That said, I was advocating the Sox offer him a nice deal that does not undercut Buehrle's career. I'm not saying, "he was crap last year, let us give him a contract reflecting soley the '06 campaign, but a contract reflecting his accomplishments. I don't see how that hurts him. If Buehrle rejects that b/c it's not in his best interest, then fine. I think from Buehrle's standpoint, he could feel slighted if the Sox never offered him anything until the end of next season. By your logic, Konerko would have signed with a different team last season. I was speaking to this thread that proposed Buehrle be traded to avoid FA, where I agree in part that we should avoid FA for a number of reasons, chiefly that we would have a growing number of FAs to decide on. I disagreed with him being traded. In addition, I like having a least one southpaw in our rotation.
  7. I would rather ink Buehrle to a long-term deal before this season starts than trade him or let him hit FA. I am unsure where both sides are at, but I think signing Buehrle to a multi-year contract now would be a steal compared to later as I believe his '07 will be more comparable to '05 than his disastrous 2006.
  8. QUOTE(fathom @ Dec 1, 2006 -> 12:48 PM) I apologize to any overweight, teenage girl that is in this thread. Now put down the Krispy Kreme, and go run on the treadmill. You have a full season ahead of screaming for every Podsednik grounder to the first baseman. Time to get in shape! Genius!

  10. QUOTE(ILoveThisGame @ Nov 28, 2006 -> 10:26 AM) Go through with the trade for Santana and Figgins for Garcia and Crede. Then trade Scott Podsednik, Brian Anderson, and Ryan Sweeney for Carl Crawford. This would answer the top of the lineup problem we had last year, put a really good center fielder out there, and make us a base stealing team. Crawford Figgins (put him in LF, couldn't be worse than Pods) J. Dye Thome Konerko Pierzynski Iguchi Fields (Leave him at 3rd) Uribe Pitchers Beuhrle Contreras McCarthy Garland E.Santana No one could stop that 1-5 punch in the lineup. Where does Vazquez fall in your idea?
  11. If Gload plays well and looks comfortable in LF during Spring Training, I would endorse him as our starting LF and #2 hitter if there are no other options. Here's some of Gload's splits for those who didn't know (2004-2006 seasons aka his White Sox career) vs LHP 84 AB .345 .375 .524 .899 vs RHP 348 AB .299 .346 .428 .774
  12. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Nov 24, 2006 -> 12:51 AM) If you could get Roberts at 3/15, he should have been signed yesterday. If Roberts has a 07 like he did in 06(I can very easily see that) you won't have a problem finding a taker if you feel Sweeney/Fields are ready to take over full time. I agree, look at Sarge JR (10mil a yr. this offseason), teams wouldn't hesitate to trade for a Roberts at his price.
  13. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Nov 20, 2006 -> 07:23 PM) If we only move 1 guy, moving him for "equal value" is acceptable if that is the best we can do. We simply don't know how desperate these teams are for pitching yet, and they may be a lot more willing to part with money than with prospects. McCarthy must get into the rotation, and we must get something for one of those guys, and we must free up some money to re-up with Buehrle this offseason if he's the one not traded. Those must happen, no matter what our offers are. The rest all depends on what others offer us. I will second that.
  14. I think Vazquez deserves another shot in our rotation next season, but Freddy should be traded. Unless an obvious deal comes along you can't turn down, hold onto Vazquez.
  15. trade iguchi & dye to the yankees for cano and melky cabrera, then use the money saved from the trade to acquire a proven bullpen cornerstone and ink crede to a long term deal.
  16. Regarding LF: Trade Garcia to the Reds for Ryan Freel and one of their pitching prospects. Freel brings tremendous versatility, thus making Mackowiak/Podsednik expendable. Freel, who has an over .400OBP against LHP over the last three seasons could leadoff. You then can get a quality veteran to bolster the pen in exchange for Mackowiak/ or Podsednik.
  17. last night i had a dream that Sox sent Dye & Iguchi to the Yankees for Cano and Melky. this did make sense to me as you cut huge amounts of salary and avoid an otherwise inevitable FA nightmare at the end of '07. Melky has a strong arm, so he could be an everday right fielder. i was thinking trade Garcia to Cin for Freel and a pitching prospect, start Freel in LF and enjoy his career .367 OBP in the leadoff spot. this could be better than trading away all our great prospects to get Crawford. now i need to have a dream about getting rid of Uribe's ass.
  18. I don't know, I think I am the only person who doesn't think putting Haeger in the bullpen is a good idea. He's an awesome pitcher who I would like to see up with the big club, but I feel he would be more of an asset in our rotation. I just picture good ol' Ozzie bringing him into a tight game, and after a wild knuckler eludes AJ's mit, an opposing runner now is in scoring position.
  19. sounds good to hear about Fields, but what are the plans for a leadoff hitter? Is acquiring Pierre a very strong probability? I still kind of like the idea of getting Dave Roberts as a short-term solution.
  20. I want to see the A's beat the Padres, but that won't happen, so I would like to see A's over anyone else.
  21. Lets trade for Michael Young. He fills our need at shortstop, leadoff, and does not like management in Tex who recently bashed him for merely being a "leader by example." That man should be one of KW's priorities, and lock him up b/c he's golden.
  22. QUOTE(SoxHawk1980 @ Sep 21, 2006 -> 09:31 AM) Very true. Garland had a horrible start and his overall numbers have been just slightly better than average this year. He deserves as much blame as the offense for him not getting 20 wins. exactly, good point.
  23. vs. DET W vs. DET W vs. DET L vs. SEA W vs. SEA W vs. SEA W vs. SEA W @ CLE W @ CLE W @ CLE L @ MIN L @ MIN W @ MIN W 10-3 I tried to be as optimistic and as realistic as possible, but does that even put in them in position to make the playoffs sans a Det or Min collapse?
