  1. Yea, you can take the .213 BA, 765 OPS hitter trending downwards quickly and I’ll take Abreu. Smoak and his career 745 OPS does indeed suck.
  2. Smoak? That guys sucks. He’s had one good season and a whole bunch of shitty ones.
  3. None of which are available this winter.
  4. I mean I really don’t understand it. He’s the best available option for 1b next season. I don’t think it’s even debatable when you look at that free agent list and acknowledge guys like Sheets and Vaughn are at least a year away from the bigs. The folks that want him gone have yet to cite a single player better to replace him.
  5. Who specifically would you rather have than Abreu at 2/24M? Keep in mind, the Sox are attempting to compete next season.
  6. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.mlb.com/amp/news/2020-mlb-free-agents-by-position.html there’s the list. Tell me who’s the better 1b option for next season since there are no better internal options until 2021 at the earliest.
  7. Still haven’t answered the question. Maybe they should try Palka there ?
  8. Who’s the better internal option for 1b next season?
  9. According to @Balta1701, 1 WAR is worth $10.5M on the free agent market. Do we not think Abreu will accumulate 2 WAR over the next two seasons? I’ve proposed 2 years, $24M.
  10. Everyone keeps saying Abreu must DH next season but who do the Sox have that is better defensively at 1b?
  11. I think we will. I believe in his bat. I think he’s a 130 wRC+ hitter as early as next season.
  12. Anderson’s offensive numbers this year (and presumably the next few years) would have set the table for a very nice payday through the arbitration process. Instead, he’s paid a mere $21M over the next 3 seasons and then the team has control for 2 more seasons beyond that at a reasonable cost of $12.5M and $14M. Just fantastic.
  13. Another example of a terrific team friendly contract extension completed by Hahn. Timmy would have been arbitration eligible starting next season.
  14. I guess I missed that one. How annoying
  15. https://blogs.fangraphs.com/lucas-giolitos-rough-july-was-just-a-blip/
  16. White Sox just won a series in Minnesota ?
  17. Twins have only been shutout twice this season. Anyone still wondering if Giolito is legit?
  18. Or even better, Cole AND Strasburg ? Won’t happen but they could certainly afford to while still maintaining a below league average payroll.
  19. 5 years is nuts. I wouldn’t be surprised if they give him 2 years with a 3rd year option/buyout.
  20. Giolito as the #3 next year would be amazing
  21. Guessing Jose/his agent thinks his market is better than that.
  22. They have no better internal options and the external options this winter aren’t exactly great. He’s a steady clubhouse presence and > 110 OPS+ hitters aren’t abundantly available at a low cost.
  23. Which is why it’s going to take a 2 year deal to bring him back. I’ve been saying all along, I’m fine with a 2 year/$24M deal. Much more than that and I’m out.
