  1. You've got a lot of phantom registrations out there. I have no idea who created all those Boogs, I just created the one I intend to use Boog_Alou95. But Boog is not the only name. It might be time for me to give up the reigns of espnjohn1 so you can just delete all the espn's. I wouldn't want such blatant advertising on my board either.

Nope, because if you look closely those nights Idol was on in that slot are highlighted in blue and 24's numbers are in orange, so those are 24's real averages. No. You missed the context of the statement. We're talking about viewer patterns rather than just the numbers itself. The 2 straight weeks of American Idol on Tues was a smart move by FOX because it pulled those viewers away from other networks those weeks. That increases the odds those viewers will tune into that time slot on FOX the next week.

http://www.thefutoncritic.com/cgi/gofuton....&action=tracker 2001-2002: 7.6 - 11.6 2002-2003: 9. 1 - 13. 5 Great link! It's definitely found a stronger audience in the 2nd yr. The low numbers are more important than the highs, because the highs can be skewed by special presentations like American Idol in that slot.
  4. I disagree. There aren't many RP's with a WHIP If he implodes 3 or 4 gms a yr to the tune of 4 or 5 ers in those gms, that doesn't matter too me as much as his near scoreless appearances the remaining games.

Kiefer makes the show. One of the weaknesses in the 2nd season has been not enough time devoted to Kiefer. Too many ancilaries. I think it pulled a 5.4 avg last yr, & it's below 5 this yr. Anybody know the #'s?
  6. Math is not their strong point. No fractions. Rejected.
  7. Val can NOT play CF. But he certainly should be able to play 1B.
  8. There's a problem with the registration. It tells you the name has been taken. There were probably several created before I just decided to ignore that measure and go from there with the registration. I didn't coax him to WSI. That was iwritecode. If it were up to me I'd prefer he'd just retire altogether. His slanted use of stats to make non-objective points & never showing the complete picture got to be a BIG bore.
  9. Dudes, you need to pay attention closer. I told you it was me in one of my first posts here. He stole the name from the Cleveland fan 2 yrs ago & so there was no way I would let him keep it on any other board.

I follow it, but I think it's too much. Let's just say the 1st season was original & the 2nd season has been less inspiring. I still like the show but there are just too many cliffhangers. Plus I'm not sure whether fans care that much if they bomb a middle eastern country because of a terrorist attack surrounding oil prices. Get back to Bin Laden type terrorists & I think the show will do better. FOX should likewise have 2 seasons of 24. Each having 8 episodes. 13-15 is too much
  11. Where's the thread for us old ESPNers? That gives me 5 now.

  13. Give me some time to find the evidence on the net, but I know for a fact Jessie was involved. They were looking at Addison as well as Rosemont at the time. Arlington Park was looked at as well. Any of the 3 would have drawn far more fans than they draw now.
  14. These boards are conducive for that digenerate behavior. You can keep it all in one thread and go at it 'til your hearts content. The wife-bashing thread.
  15. And when it costs on average 80mil to build a winner, how are the SOX going to raise enough revenue in the poorest per capita income area of all MLB ball parks? We are no better than OAK in terms of the economics. And OAK is LOT richer in talent than we are. Yet OAK has no championship. The SOX are no different in terms of OAK, KC, or any other small market team. They have a small window of 4 yrs out of every 10 to try & win a championship. Beane had done the best job imaginable but even his luck will run out. Multiplexes are not a trend to die. They have been building for the better part of 10 yrs now & continue to expand. Digital projection will replace current 35mm film & that will be followed by 70mm film currently used by IMAX. They are here to stay & are a good measure of disposable income for any region. Where the SOX play today, there is little disposable income to speak of. The worst thing of all is what will happen if the Cub field a contender while JR is still messing with a 55mil payroll. A predominantly Cub town will become futher dominant by the Northsiders.
  16. So what's the answer? Should the government subsidize company's for the expense of extensive hiring processes to make sure that they cover all minority special interest groups?
  17. The marketplace is a LOT different than the era you're talking about. There is a lot more competition for leisure $'s now than it was then. You're wrong about transportation to a park in the burbs. Over 1/2 the patrons for the Flyers & Cougars come from a Metra train stop a few blocks away. There was a discussion about this on ESPN & we used multiplexes & movie theatres as a measure of how lucrative an area is. After all there's no greater measure of disposable income per the largest pop segment than the BO. Even people from resident Bridgeport admitted there is no theatre within 2miles of that area. If there are no $'s to support hollywood BO how will there ever be $'s to support a MLB team? The myth has always been that the SOX will draw the fans if they win. 2000 proved that is just a myth. To win the fans back the SOX have to win in the post-season & keep winning yr after yr. In the current economic framework in MLB that's just not possible.
  18. You're looking at their potential based on the Chicago market. Whereas I'm looking at the reality of what is. They still have a stadium located in one of the poorest per capita income areas in the city. Don't tell me about neighboring Brideport. If you look at the location of the stadium in comparison to all other stadiums in the league today it's in the poorest per capita area. Detroit has a beautiful new stadium located in a nice area showing Downtown Detroit's skyline. They are suffering from talent much like the Brewers & Pirates. But talent's the easiest thing to improve when you have a lucrative place to play in. Cleveland is still living off the fruits of Jacobs Field & if there existing talent rises to the all-star level they'll be back in the 90 payroll range again. KC & Minn are still lobbying for new stadiums but both are still in areas that have a higher per capita income than the SOX. You mention the SOX TV revenue, & grant it that's what keeps this team alive. But since 20% of that revenue goes to MLB & gets funneled to the Twinkies, Royals, & Tigers it's not that much of a gain. When I add up the economics of the whole division the SOX look to be in as bad of shape as the Twinks & KC. The SOX will not draw over 2mil until they win a playoff series. Period. Nothing is going to change that as long as they play in US Cell. I'm sorry but I don't share your joy in the SOX being chained to the location of US Cell. Given the consistently high streams of local revenue generated by the SOX in Chicago, there is no way MLB would seek to move the SOX from this market. Especially since the league steals 20% of the revenue a yr now from both teams. It's more likely that MLB would push for moving the SOX to a new Chicago metro location than to be left with 1 team in this TV market.
  19. This team is as low as it's ever been in my time on this planet. I know the record doesn't reflect it, but fan apathy toward the ownership is at an all time high. I was excited when I read about the 300ft LED boards that extend from home plate to the foul pouls in the upper deck on both 1st & 3rd base sides. I was thinking, sure there will be ads no doubt, but maybe just maybe, they'll have some trivia games, frog races, brat races, etc. Something to engage the fans with. Hell an ESPN like ticker would be nice. But no JR could give a crap about the fans. All these boards do is refresh ads. All game long. They are more of a distraction than an enhancement. The new scoreboard is nice, but if you're in the bullpen sections you're view is obstructed by the new CF deck. The bottom line is the experience is lessened. So after all the $ spent, other than some nice new cosmetic changes they made it less enjoyable for the fans.
  20. In case he follows BPJ here like a long lost poodle .... From the pages of ESPN: b00b you're a coward. A fairly intelligent one, but a coward nonetheless. You have nearly 4600 posts here on the WhiteSox board & only 24 on the D'Backs board. I say fairly intelligent because let's face it you've placed yourself in a no lose situation. If the SOX win, you'll just applaud the good work. When the SOX lose, you have all the stats to dig the knife deeper into the wound. It really doesn't bother you if the SOX do good, because there's always some negativity about the team you can exploit. This board is your sanctuary. That's the kind of person to expect from the b00ber. A self-proclaimed D'Backs fan having less than 1% of his total posts on his home board. An insurance lawyer to boot.
  21. Is this for real? Do we really have people in the SOX front office posting here?
  22. Sadly to say, I have to agree with cwsox. The process should include a large enough sample so that the "appearance" of hiring the best qualified person is established. The only thing I would argue against this is that each person interviewed costs a corporation both time & $. I think the economics should weigh over anything else. If a company that is losing $ and has to save every $ decides to spare itself the expense of a hiring process unless someone's willing to donate to the cause there's really no other option. Based on what I've read of Marlin $ losses they would certainly qualify but the question remains whether MLB & Selig were willing to fit the bill for the process.
  23. Since the SOX have so many guys fail in the arm dept when they reach the ML's, Adkins isn't even worth my time looking through his stats. He hasn't proven a thing until he can do it the ML's. And I think if he really had a good chance for that Beane would have kept him & fleeced KW some other way.
