What is that 18 DP's Konerko's hit into? Cripes, it couldn't have gone any other way tonight. Talk about bad MOJO.
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 22, 2006 -> 07:11 PM) Why's that? He's not a big prospect, and is known more for his defense than his offense. You mean another Brian Anderson....but one who can hit, of course.
-
QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Aug 22, 2006 -> 07:07 PM) How the f*** did Konerko not score on Brian Anderson's single up the middle? I didn't see the AB, but Crede was ahead in the count and popped out? WTF? With two out! I couldda crawled on my ass cheeks to home plate and it wouldn't have even been close.

This is it, boys! This is the hump the Tigers needed to get over. I'll wager we get swept. Those boys are playing inspired ball. They root for each other, pick each other up. I wouldn't be surprised if they win another 30 games.
-
Gawd! I wish I wasn't so emotionally involved with these twerps. It would be a whole lot easier to watch. I just downed about half a bottle of pepto. Even the Tigers announcers say the Sox look flat. That's saying something.
-
This game is actually fun to watch. No, really. The Tigers are taking us to school. I want to see what kind of gumption the 2006 White Sox will have tomorrow. Will it be an apathetic, business-like approach, or will it be a "We're gonna PHAWKIN' kill you, rape your women, and eat your children" attitude? Stay tuned......

QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Aug 22, 2006 -> 06:32 PM) i love sandy alomar! first he makes a dumb ass joke about AJ. second he's old and sucks. and third, he was supposed to be the 'savior' for the struggling pitching staff. haha what a joke. im sorry Widger wherever you are. It will be poetic justice if the Sox don't make the playoffs.

QUOTE(Frankensteiner @ Aug 22, 2006 -> 06:26 PM) See, my problem is why are we waiting these guys out. Freddy and/or Javy should have been off the team mid-season. We're not getting any younger with two of our best players being in their mid 30s (Thome and Count) and our best player this season is having an out of his mind career year (Dye). It's only going to get harder for this same team to win next year, unless KW is already planning a massive overhaul. No kiddin'! Let's see..... starting with a serviceable leadoff hitter who can play "good" outfield. If they want to continue the Anderson experiment, be my guest, but I ain't drinking that kool-aid neither. Uribe may be a good fielder, but that's it. He PHAWKIN' SUCKS! The starting rotation..................................'nuff said.

Way to go Juan! I like your style blowing bubbles right after looking at that third strike. Keep up the good work shmuck! You suck worse than a crack whore!

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Aug 22, 2006 -> 06:16 PM) Broadway could come up and pitch a 6 ERA, and we'd save 9 million dollars on a pitcher with an ERA that's only 3/4 of a run worse than Buehrle. Not bad. At this point, they can get just about anybody and they'll do just as good (rather, just as bad!!!).

QUOTE(SoxHawk1980 @ Aug 22, 2006 -> 06:15 PM) Given Contreras's very advanced age, do you really think signing him to a long-term contract was a good idea? He seems "old" all of a sudden, doesn't he?
-
QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Aug 22, 2006 -> 06:09 PM) Nobody wants to trade for an underachiever, you don't trade guys at minimum value. Plus, the payroll number doesn't change the unexpected dropoff by this pitching staff. The only way this year is Kenny's fault is if YOU predicted the pitching rotation would be this bad, becasue even if they were just mediocre, we'd be a playoff team. Define "mediocre"....That's middle of the pack, right?
-
Wow! How far this pitching staff has fallen. It's unbefreakin'lievable. KW must be going nuts. How the hell do you fix THIS? A staff that supposedly had "excess" pitching is now scrambling to find a "reliable" starter. And we got nothin' waitin' down at the farm. Someone find me the PANIC button!

QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Aug 22, 2006 -> 05:42 PM) Nice inning Mark. We need some quick innings like that. I don't think it's gonna matter tonite. No PHAWKIN' WAY Buerhle gives up only 2 runs tonite. I guaran-damn-phawkin'-tee it.
-
Damn! I saw it half an inning ago that Ozzie wasn't gonna last the full game. I didn't think it would happen so soon, though.
-
QUOTE(robinventura23 @ Aug 22, 2006 -> 05:30 PM) The inning could have been much, much worse. Dude, this game is already over. Buerhle won't make it past the fifth. Buerhle needs the corners to work and he ain't gettin' them with this ump. God I hope we split this series!

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Aug 22, 2006 -> 09:13 AM) 4.04 - $9,500,000 4.73 - $7,000,000 4.80 - $8,000,000 4.87 - $9,000,000 5.13 - $12,000,000 (ugh) And I'm pretty sure all of them are making more money next year. Dude, they got paid. What do they care?

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Aug 22, 2006 -> 11:54 AM) Last year the White Sox won 99 games as well as the Central Division, over the offseason they add another starter the their already "best in baseball" rotation, one of the best power hitters in the game and 2 of the best bench players around, the team is improved and energized and yet the fans are supposed to settle for being 22 games over .500 and tied for the lead in the wild card (loss column). I'm sorry but I don't see any reason to "settle" with this team, the expectations were high comming into the season and based on those expectations, this team has fallen flat on it's face. Given that the team "improved" its roster, I concur that if this team doesn't AT LEAST make the playoffs, then it should be considered a HUGE letdown. JR and KW did their part, from my point of view. JR opened up his wallet, and secured the Sox's pitching future as well as add huge thunder to the lineup. Using the word "settle" did not suggest accepting a lesser product on the field. Given the infinite number of factors that effect the outcome of a game, the big picture is what counts,... how many W's were compiled at season's end, and that they have the most W's for a WC berth or outright division championship. How they get there and the relative methods employed for reaching the goal is irrelevant. So losing a few games now, regardless of who it is the Sox play, means little. Now, if October 2 comes around and the Sox are playing golf, then I will be the first to write a 10 page dissertation explaining "Half-game" Vasquez's phychological block, and his inability to pitch from the stretch. Till then, it's one game at a time, no matter how painful it might be to watch sometimes.

QUOTE(DrunkBomber @ Aug 22, 2006 -> 11:01 AM) The most recent was the rubber match against the Yanks and then the three against the Tigers but that was stopped at 4. Theyre gonna need to string some together down the stretch though. They don't need to string nothin'. Just win 2 out of 3 from here on out. Totally doable. The Yankees swept the Dead Sox, but they gave up a month's worth of runs in that series. Their bats are doing the job, but their pitching sucks also. The Dead Sox and Twinkerbells are trying to keep the injuries from bringing down their seasons. Detroit is under .500 in August. EVERYBODY has issues! This is the marathon sprint to the finish. No one has sealed the deal yet. We will know by the end of this month how things will shake out. If the Sox are more than 2 games behind the Twins in the WC, then you'll be reading an "Everybody Sucks" thread from me also. Till then, I'm chillin'.

QUOTE(brijames @ Aug 21, 2006 -> 07:57 PM) Tigers will win 3 of these 4 and the race for the Central Title will be over. Any questions? I'd love to have some of that Tiger Kool-Aid you're drinking. Man! What a pessimist. On the other hand, at least it takes the some of the tension away and the Sox can concentrate on just the WC and not both. QUOTE(POPPY_HIDALGO @ Aug 22, 2006 -> 10:51 AM) They didn't just lose they got their asses kicked. And they also lost 2 out of 3 to the team chasing them in the wild card over the weekend. This has been a rough stretch for WhiteSox baseball and instead of pretending it's not going on, you should just hope they can turn the corner soon. It's not the end of the world, but their play has been poor lately and I hope and know in my heart of hearts that they will be able to turn it around. I don't see how they don't win the next three in Detroit. The Sox just own the Tigers. All things being equal, the Tigers are due.....

QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Aug 20, 2006 -> 03:42 PM) You're right. I guess I do forget sometimes that the other contenders in the AL are far from perfect. Do I expect too much? Maybe. But why not? For years I've been content with the Sox just being competitive and having a chance to get to the playoffs. Is it wrong for me to want more now? I don't think so. Like I said earlier, it just bothers me that we've been so bad in so many different aspects this year. Thank god for the offense. Funny how everyone last year said Thank God for the pitching, cause the offense sucked.

QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Aug 21, 2006 -> 10:59 PM) A few hours later, and I'm over this loss. I do love baseball. And I agree with what JD had to say about the loss: "He was lights out," Dye said. "No matter who was facing him, that team wouldn't have had a chance. Besides the homer he gave up, he kept everyone off base and came up with ground balls and flies to get out of innings. "We have enough veteran leadership to know to tip your hat to that guy, but tomorrow is another day, and we'll come out ready to play. Just by the way we've played this team this year is confidence in itself." come back and get them tomorrow He was right on. Verlander was in The Zone. Nobody was going to hit this guy, in that ballgame. I wasn't so much concerned about the loss as I was about Contreras' command of his pitches. He missed his spots quite a lot. This does not bode well for this final stretch. But Relax, people. We're gonna lose another dozen to 15 more games. I just hope that at the final out, the Sox are just one game better than the Twinkerbells and Dead Sox.

QUOTE(Heads22 @ Aug 21, 2006 -> 11:11 PM) I was told to conserve my powers....well...they could make a difference now. Man, I thought the Dead Sox boards were bad... Last I looked the Sox STILL have the WC lead by half a game despite their s****y play. I'm kinda hoping they just stay afloat until the last week of the season when everybody gets going at the same time, just like last year. Remember, the champion isn't always the best team, just the hottest team entering the playoffs. The question beckons....is this team going to pick itself up. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Aug 21, 2006 -> 11:06 PM) We need some good Heads vibes. We also need the last 3 games. Don't get greedy. I'd settle for not getting swept.

QUOTE(SoxnGiants @ Aug 21, 2006 -> 04:12 PM) I think Detroit is in a definate tailspin... but my honest opinion is that we don't have the level of pitching required to make up the 5&1/2 games. We just drop too many games when Vazquez, Buehrle & Garcia pitch. If we somehow return to 2005 form (pitching wise) we can do it, but I think that is unlikely at this point. Detroit would have to collapse for us to overtake them and I don't think they will. I think we're capable of .600 baseball the rest of the way - but I don't think that's enough to pass the Tigers (If they finish 18-19 we have to play .666 the rest of the way to tie). Ther's no Phawkin way! Detroit's too far ahead and their pitching is what ours was last year. So forget it. Let's just stay ahead of the Twinkerbells and call it a season....only to get our asses kicked by Oakland in the ALDS.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Aug 21, 2006 -> 07:42 PM) Conteras 9-0 in the first half, 3-6 in the 2nd half. Beltin Bill Melton thinks Contreras has a back problem, and he is dropping down a lot more. This is trouble. I'm just hoping Garland keeps the ship afloat.
