  1. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Aug 21, 2006 -> 07:37 PM) As far as I'm concerned, the sweep against Detroit never happened. At this point, I dont care how many more games we win, as long as it's one more than the Twinkerbells and Dead Sox.
  2. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Aug 21, 2006 -> 07:28 PM) 1-3 so far on the most important roadtrip of the season. Awesome start! In three days we'll be right there with the Boston fans, crapping all over every Sox player we can think of, and Ozzie, Coop, and KW will be eating a shiiat sandwich as they keep preaching the "wait and see" routine.
  3. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Aug 21, 2006 -> 07:06 PM) I remember when we were all laughing at the Indians' pitching problems back in May. That seems like 20 years ago. I can't believe how badly this pitching staff has underachieved. Our pitching is no longer a "concern". It is a bonafide disaster and KW and Ozzie need to go into emergency mode. They can no longer afford to "wait" for the pitching to "come around" 'cause it ain't gonna happen. It is what it is, and Ozzie needs to shift his managing philosophy with that in mind. I think even though he's only got a 4th grade education, Ozzie has a pretty stout baseball IQ and he will understand that the hook needs to be applied swiftly at first sign of trouble. They can sit around and do nothin, a la Boston Dead Sox, or scramble around and find what this team needs. At least Boston has a good excuse, 3 young pitchers replacing injured ones. The White Sox have had no significant injuries of any sort. I thought a month and a half ago that the Skankees were done, with Sheff and Matsui gone tits up, but they didn't fold their tents. That's a credit to them, and now they look to be The Standard. This season really makes me appreciate last year even more. A bunch of rag-tag scappers somehow found a way, while this team full of All-Stars is barely cuttin' the mustard. Baseball's a funny game. I love it!
  4. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 21, 2006 -> 07:04 PM) It's just amazing how many times a week a starting pitcher gives up 5 or 6 runs in their outing. As you said earlier, don't you think they'd have a fluke week where they all pitched well? Even if only by "accident".
  5. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Aug 21, 2006 -> 06:51 PM) I wonder if A Mi Manera means chokes under pressure. It means PUT THE BLINDERS ON, EVERYTHING's JUST FINE.
  6. QUOTE(Frankensteiner @ Aug 21, 2006 -> 06:49 PM) So then there were pitchers switching teams that could have helped us. Good job, Kenny. It's depressing to think how much of an overhaul this staff needs for next year. But yeah, we're locked into these guys for a couple of more years. Awesome!! Wow! WTF are we gonna do? We thought we were operating from a position of strength. We ain't got SHIIIIIAT!
  7. QUOTE(SoxnGiants @ Aug 21, 2006 -> 06:42 PM) Okay, I couldn't stay away. Anyone think that AJ might be part of the problem? Some really bizarre pitch selection going on tonight. Dude, I saw an astonishing stat on AJ. He's thrown out only 18% of baserunners trying to steal.....and there have been 84 attempts on him. Maybe it's AJ, but that's Cooper's job to cut that crap down and TEACH his pitchers how to hold runners better.
  8. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Aug 21, 2006 -> 06:38 PM) Have you watched the Red Sox lately? Alrighty then. I just switched to watch the LLWS. It's too painful to watch. Hopefully they will fill their quota of runs tonite, so they have none left for the remaining three.......yeah, I wish.
  9. QUOTE(CYGarland @ Aug 21, 2006 -> 06:35 PM) What happened to the Red Sox was much worse. They were only 1 1/2 games outwhen that series started, and It was in Boston. Dude, I ain't worried about the Tigers. They can have the division for all I care. I'm more worried about us losing ground to the Twinkerbells.
  10. QUOTE(THEWOOD @ Aug 21, 2006 -> 06:31 PM) This is making me sick... Ain't much of a game. Too bad Jose didn't have his "A" game going. Man, I'm praying to God this isn't the start of what the Yankees did to the Dead Sox. I have no idea WTF I would do or say if that were to happen.
  11. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Aug 21, 2006 -> 05:37 PM) At least we are not Red Sox fans. I guaran-damn-tee you that the fecal matter's gonna fly if we get swept. Tigers are getting a pretty good start. This hasn't been much of a game at all.
  12. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Aug 21, 2006 -> 01:15 PM) The 2005 World Series is done. That Championship is something to savor during the offseason, and if you want to use that glorious season as a reason to be satisfied with underachieving and not winning anything now or in the future, than I don't want you in our fanbase. Phawkin' Right ON! It is our DUTY as fans to demand a quality product on the field, year in year out. It is that dogmatic, complacent point of view that keeps Wrigley Field filled to capacity, watching an absolute piece of shiat team attempt to play baseball, year in year out. The fans are doing their part by selling out The Cell. This isn't KC or Pittsburg, or Baltimore. This is a first rate baseball town, large-market baseball city and it is our right to expect from here on out (now that we've discovered a winning formula) to compete with the elite teams in baseball. So keep thinking like a Cubs fan, smart guy, and you won't likely see another championship for ANOTHER 88 years.
  13. QUOTE(TLAK @ Aug 21, 2006 -> 05:38 AM) Updated SOS: Looks like NY has smooth sailing from here on out! The East is decided. Now it's a race among Us, the Twinkies, and Kitties. Honestly, I want the White Sox to make it so they can beat the stuffing out of those smug, overpaid Skanks, and shove it right up ESPN's brownosing Baseball Tonight crew's asses. I'm just sorry we couldn't rub their noses in it last year. If we get the Wild Card, we'll get our chance, since the Kitties will likely play Oakland.
  14. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Aug 21, 2006 -> 03:59 PM) Umm, it would help to know what board you're talking about? My bad. I was recovering from my aching abs from laughing so hard. The web site is REDSOXNATION.NET/forums. QUOTE(Felix @ Aug 21, 2006 -> 03:51 PM) Read this board some time. I do, but somehow it isn't so funny when the Sox get drubbed and people lose their cool. I can feel THEIR pain. I feel no pain for DEAD SOX, though.
  15. You gotta check out what Red Sox fans are saying in their boards. They are pissed! It is PHAWKING HILARIOUS what some of these poor bastards are writing. They want to jump off buildings, and fire everybody in the team other than Big Papi and Papelbon. Man this stuff is priceless! I havent laughed this hard in a long time. Get a sampling: You gotta take 15 minutes to read this. People are going nuts over there. I hope to God we don't go through this, though. Better them than me, I always say.
  16. QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Aug 20, 2006 -> 07:58 PM) From here on out, we MUST win every series. Starting tommorow in Detroit, we need to win 3 of 4. Honestly the only AL team that scares me right now is Minnesota. And the good thing is, they are still trailing us by 1 game. I truly believe it will be easier to catch the Tigers than to maintain a lead over the Twins (Pirahnas). So if we can creep our way back to the top of the division, I can see both the Twins and White Sox making the playoffs. Thoughts? I think the Twins have much better pitching than the Sox. If they hit consistently, I'm sorry to say that they will likely overtake us. That bullpen of theirs is lights out. I hope Liriano doesn't come back till next season, or we're in trouble. Remember, our last 3 games are at Minnesota.
  17. To be quite frank, I'm just hoping we split. The Sox are way too inconsistent to hope for much more than that. Also, the odds say Detroit is due to spank the Sox at some point. This team has been a huge disappointment, because ON PAPER, it looks like the best team in the majors, followed closely by the Skankees, who have all-stars everywhere. I' don't even care if the Sox get swept, provided they win 97 games. I think that's what it's going to take. They need to scratch and claw for every W from here on out.
  18. The Sox need some speed at the bases, someone who will steal a base late in the game to push in that crucial run in the late innings. I hate this "power" offense. If no homeruns are hit, we generally don't score. This team is reminiscent of the 2004 team. Lots of similarities. Who in the minors has some speed?
  19. The Sox schedule gets pretty tough compared to the Tigers' and Twins. I'm gettin' real nervous about that last series at the Metrodome to close the season. I just hope they have a good lead on the Wild Card by then. I really thought that the Tigers fortunes would be predicated on what they would do the last two weeks of August, since it was hands down the toughest schedule among the playoff contending teams during that two week period. It appears they will have survived with only minor dents and scratches. With only 39 games left in the season, the Sox need to reach 97 wins to safely reach the playoffs. That means they have to win 24 more against 15 losses to reach that mark. I think it's gonna be tough, given the Sox remaining opponents. The Sox have only 17 home games left, not good. The Sox still have to go on the road to play AL West teams who always give the Sox fits. The Twins, on the other hand, play the AL West teams at Minnesota. The good thing is the Twins have another 22 away games. Hopefully, it works to the Sox's benefit. The big problem is Detroit. They have 21 of their 39 remaining games at Detroit. Also, they will play only 10 more games against teams that have winning records. The chance the Sox catch the Tigers looks quite remote if the Sox don't take at least 3 games AT DETROIT. The Sox have to turn on the jets NOW. This so-called "run" we've been waiting for all year has to manifest beginning tomorrow. If the team plays .500 ball they will be certain to miss the playoffs by one or two games. Ozzie needs to pull out a voodo doll out his butt or something, 'cause his players are not responding. The time is NOW, gentlemen.....NOW!
  20. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Aug 20, 2006 -> 06:17 PM) One, I hate the attitude that since it's Santana we should automatically accept defeat. Two, we've destroyed plenty of good pitching this year. The offense is indeed great. It would be even better if Podsednik would show some semblance of an actual proffessional ball player. Can't argue that Podsednik is no longer a catalyst, but it's not entirely his fault. The offense is designed to be a power offense not a "small ball" one. To tell you the truth, it was Anderson who effectively lost the ballgame with that one idiotic throw to third, along with a few taters left over the plate by "Half-game" Vasquez once again.
  21. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Aug 20, 2006 -> 05:29 PM) We led the WC by 6 games at the break. We led the WC by 3 games just a few days ago. We're 16-21 since being a season high 27 games over .500. The Twins have been playing at an unreal level for 3 months now -- even without Liriano. I'm just lookin' at the big picture. Oh my God! The sky is falling. The End of the World is upon us! The Sox missed the playoffs!....C'mon, people. RE-freakin'-lax! It was Johan Santana in HIS ballpark today, not to mention we gave them extra outs. I didn't expect a win under any circumstance. The Sox outfield is poorly coached, plain and simple. Had Anderson hit the cutoff man, the Sox would have still been in the ballgame. Had the ball been thrown to second base, the infield would not have been pulled in for the subsequent hitter, and it would have been a routine double play for Uribe. These are the growing pains of an immature center fielder, the learning curve, if you will. Nevertheless, 3 runs is not usually going to do it with this pitching staff anyway. The Sox offense has struggled against good pitching. That's a statistical fact. If the Sox make the playoffs, don't expect they will advance, cause there's NO WAY they will with the way this offense is constructed. If there's no long balls, we usually lose. I don't find that to be a GREAT offense, powerful yes, but not great.
  22. Everyone here sounds surprised that the Sox are gettin' their butts handed to them. Santana owns the Sox, first of all. Second, "Half-game" Vasquez has been his usual 5 run per outing pitcher. Like I said, it will be a moral victory if we get 3 runs off this mote.
  23. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Aug 20, 2006 -> 12:42 AM) I loved how he played, but I felt his defense (or at least his range) was overrated. That and I always thought someone could strike him out if they just pitched him low and away. He was just never my favorite. He was and will never be the best player in any team. But he had a contagious attitude that far outshined his athletic shortcomings. All that "Grinder Rule #--" crap doesn't apply anymore. The Sox of 2006 resemble more the Yankees of 1998, business-like, apathetic. There is no fire in this team as I could CLEARLY see last year. The HUNGER does not show in their play, and Rowand would not have put up with that.
  24. QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ Aug 19, 2006 -> 12:51 PM) Thome is the biggest reason we run less, that and Dye's success. You just don't want to make outs in front of those studs on the bases. It was different last year when we had less success out of 3-4-5 The offense is categorically different this year by design. Podsenik seems to be getting the short end of it, as a result. If he had 60 stolen bases by now, everyone would still ignore his awful defense and journeyman OBP. The lineup is a Thumper lineup, not unlike 2004. It is "disconcerting" to have hitters who strikeout at alarming rates in the leadoff and 3 spot. In post-season games, I'll take my chances with a less potent but more contact driven lineup, a "small ball" offense. Our inability to score runs without the benefit of the homerun is well-documented, and the Sox will face teams with very good pitching in the post-season run. The ability to move runners over will be HUGE during those series. With the Sox's less than stellar pitching, runs will be at a premium.
