QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 24, 2008 -> 05:24 PM) I've pretty much religiously followed our minor leagues for the last five years. I've barely acknowledged them so far this year. We've basically got nothin' right now. Most of the guys doing anything of note are all at the lower levels. I don't even consider a player a true prospect until they start producing at High A. Scenario, you seem like our resident minor league guy this year. Besides guys like Broadway and Poreda, who the hell else is worth following right now? Fields and Richar.

I tried this already, don't bother. Apparently he is "lucky" and has "no potential."

According to gameday, one fields homerun was the LF and the other was to RF. Hopefully he has finally broken out of this slump, and starts BB'ing more, K'ing less, and hits the s*** out of the ball. Getz was showing his versatility by playing SS. Bourgeois has been a disappointment this season, batting a mere .212.

Reason to Suspect Quentin is Using Illegal Substances

QUOTE (Gregory Pratt @ May 23, 2008 -> 10:41 AM) re: Chipper Jones and Berkman -- nothing would surprise me, but Jones has hit more singles this season than at any point in his career and besides, his late-career evolution is not without precedent in guys like Molitor or Brett. It is a little suspicious that he's having such amazing seasons, but who knows. Berkman I don't know either, but it's possible. I don't want to play that game that oh, he's doing really good... I don't think either of them have yet shattered any records, so we'll have to see the end of the season for statistical analysis. Jones and Berkman have great hitters their whole lifes. I'm not going to say they've been clean players, as it's tough to say if anyone has been clean, but just because these 2 great hitters are off to ridiculous starts shouldn't raise anymore or less questions than before. -
Uribe to 15 Day DL retroactive, Wise called up

QUOTE (knightni @ May 23, 2008 -> 07:52 PM) I just thought that it was funny. It could have been anyone. My spelling is about as bad as it gets. Grammar wise, I think I'm fairly good in that category. But I can't spell at all. Like in grammar school, while everyone didn't study at all and would ace all the spelling tests, I'd have to study the night before, and if I didn't, I'd struggle. -
My brother went there. However, he was ranked no. 1 in his class, had like a 4.4 GPA (if not higher) out of 4 (which I don't know how is possible), was the editor for the school news paper, got a 33 or 34 on his ACT, and was involved in a bunch of other stuff. Plus, he went there with an academic scholarship. So yeah, my brother had no trouble getting in. But from all I've heard, it's ridiculously tough to get. Not really sure if this post helps at all.

QUOTE (knightni @ May 23, 2008 -> 07:42 PM) BearSox. You so unintentionally funny, it's just great. Oh, I knew I spelled leprechaun and psychiatrist wrong... I was just hoping I'd have enough time to edit before anyone saw my post... apparently, I did not. And if grammar is such a really big deal, you could use a lesson or two with that post -

QUOTE (quickman @ May 23, 2008 -> 04:02 PM) so what, we have enough veterans to keep him in line I don't think anyone besides a psychiatrist can keep players who think they have little leprechauns living in their head "in line." -

Uribe to 15 Day DL retroactive, Wise called up
BearSox replied to Princess Dye's topic in Pale Hose Talk
geez, people are reading waaaaay too much into such a simple move. Uribe got DL'ed, opening a spot on the bench. It was simple to see who would get called up, and that was Wise. Looking at his numbers, he has plus speed, and has been ridiculous in Charlotte this season. Plus, he is a lefty. This was a simple move, as if he can play all 3 OF positions with plus D, and add a lefty bat off the bench with some pop, he can contribute more so than Getz, or Bourgeois (who's been terrible this year anyway). -
I've been thinking about this topic for a while, and finally decided to make a thread about it. I'll start the ball off with this: while reading this article about Charles Grant and his role in the murder and such, I came up with something interesting... Feticide is the killing of a fetus inside the women's body. Now I have a question, why is it okay for millions of women to kill fetuses every day with no penalty, but Charles Grant gets charged with feticide? Now, I know this is comparing apples and oranges, but still. I am pro-life by the way.

Firefighters Being Fired For Not Speaking Spanish
BearSox replied to DrunkBomber's topic in The Filibuster
Just think, if this happened to be firefighters getting fired for not knowing how to speak English, and only speaking Spanish, there would be an uproar among all the Hispanic-American civil rights leaders and the screwy far left. -
QUOTE (fathom @ May 21, 2008 -> 08:10 PM) Why would the Angels do this right now? If they want Crede, why not wait until the offseason when you don't have to trade Chone? I actually think Cristian Guzman would be a great fit, as he's played some good baseball lately. The only reason why I think they would is because they feel he'd help their playoff push, and that they want first dibs on him in the offseason.

So, um... Chris who? Oh yeah, Chris B. Young, the guy batting .247 and on pace to K 179 times.

Wite, I agree with you... Swisher is the more productive ball player, but to completely ignore the fact that Sweeney can become the better player in a couple of years is being naive. There is no doubting the upside there is with Sweeney, it's just a matter of putting it together. Will he ever, I don't know. But you are completely, 100% correct, Swisher (as of now) is the more productive player.

I actually think there are more questions with Alvarez than there are with Smoak... but conversely, there is more upside presented with Alvarez as well.

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ May 21, 2008 -> 01:37 PM) Alexei has been improving, that's for sure. At least with him in the lineup, there is SOME speed. He also has a pretty good cannon at 2B. Not Uribe status, but he surely has a nice arm. His average is actually right in line with all the other slumpers. Alexei's arm is better than Uribe's... however, Uribe, to go along with the fact he does have a strong arm himself, has as quick of a release as anyone, which makes it seem like his arm is stronger than it actually is. -
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ May 21, 2008 -> 06:02 PM) 6 extra base hits all season...yeah, let me help you suck on his schlong a while too. :rolly Swisher's a far more talented player, and it's a matter of him getting his swing figured out. The potential is much, much greater for Swisher than it is Sweeney. That's 6 extra base hits compared to Swisher's 10 in 50 more AB's than Sweeney. Also, for someone with such a little amount of extra base hits, he has drove in 6 more runs. However, Swisher has double the amount of runs (24 to 12). Also, Swisher is on pace to have 140 some K's (albeit 100+ walks). I don't care what anyone says, K's are bad and unless you can hit more than 20-30 homers, and drive in more than 80 runs, having that many strikeouts is no good. There is no denying it, as of now, Sweeney has had the better season. Will this be the case come September? Maybe, maybe not, I don't know. Most people know that for as long as I have posted here, I have been a huge fan of Sweeney's. Most know I was not a fan of the Swisher trade. I think it was Bureau who was saying that Sweeney was actually the centerpiece of the Swisher trade. And for someone calling me out for "sucking on his schlong," you're doing quite a lot of that with Swisher. How exactly is he that far more talented player? He is a grinder and a guy who loves baseball and how to play the game, and has a great eye at the plate, but he quite frankly isn't that special of a ball player. His swing has never been all that pretty, and he has never hit for average (.240 MLB average, 260 MiLB average), and he K's a ton (however, not as much as some of the true K masters out there). By my accounts, Swisher is a pretty average player who walks a lot, and has a little pop. Plus, Sweeney's arm, range, and defense is far superior as well. However, most people who aren't blinded by stats know that Sweeney has had all the potential in the world. He has as pretty as a swing a player can get, and could have been an 1st or 2nd round pick as either a pitcher or hitter. The reason why he fell to the second round was because teams didn't know as to whether he would have been a pitcher or hitter. It is completely asinine to say Sweeney has little talent, as he has as much talent as anyone in baseball, and that can be seen by just how pure and natural his swing is. The sad part has been that he hasn't been able to put it together. Swisher is a good player in his own right, but if Sweeney ever finds most of his potential (which is a definite possibility as he is only 23), he will be one hell of a ball player. You are so very wrong about the potential being on the side of Sweeney. However, Swisher probably offers more now. I know by these posts, it might seem I think Swisher sucks, but I do like him. He's a good ball player, but this spite lingers in me about him, because everytime I see him, I think of what we might be possibly losing out on with Sweeney and DLS (I was a huge DLS fan as well).

one thing for sure... thank goodness this came out before the draft. It's going to be a tough situation for whoever takes over since there is only 2 weeks before the draft, but it's sure as whole lot better than those two scumbags running their schemes and drafting garbage so they can make some extra $$$.
-
another thing to add about Smoak... he's not an all or nothing guy either. While College numbers are not all that great to use, he has shown that he can work the count and take a walk, and won't K like crazy. From what I have heard from people who watch Smoak regularly, he is very good at working the count. He'll likely K no more than your average middle of the order power hitter, but hell probably have his walk total pretty high as well... this is if he develops although, which is never a given for any prospect.

Wasn't a girl drafted before him also?
