QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Mar 8, 2007 -> 09:14 PM) The feed will be the same way they do it with directtv where you get one of the sets of announcers, so you won't have the option to pick the Sox feed everytime. Sometimes you'll get em, sometimes you won't. The only big thing I'm really going to miss is when I DVR a game, I stay away from all sports websites and don't look at my text messages on my phone or anything because I can't stand to see the score and I don't think there is going to be a way for me to navigate onto the mlb.tv page and play the archived feed without stumbling onto the score. But ya it will definitely be a perk being able to catch the Sox game from wherever. Of course I think my friends will be hating this cause I'll end up being at there places and go lets watch the Sox game and pop it onto there computer. Yeah... I hear that. I had the same problem a couple years ago when I wouldn't be able to watch a game so I would just go to the archieved game. It was so tough trying to avoid the score. Thank god for me getting TiVo last year though!

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Mar 8, 2007 -> 08:36 PM) I really want to see big years from Gomes, Valido, and Carter or im going to consider them as non-prospects. I think Baseball America compared him to Alfonso Soriano... or was it rotoworld? Anyway, if he becomes half the player soriano is...

QUOTE(aboz56 @ Mar 8, 2007 -> 09:02 PM) Although I have DirecTV, I'm switching to the MLB.tv package this year simply because I believe most of the WCIU games are on there (I know they advertise having every game on MLB.tv, the WCIU broadcasts are not on DirecTV) and it's also $40 cheaper annually (for the Premium package, the standard MLB.tv is $70 cheaper). I worried somewhat about losing the ability to DVR the games, then again, they archive all of the games on MLB.tv. I just hope the quality for the streaming 700K lives up to what I'm expecting it to be. I also like the idea of being able to be out of town, finding a high speed connection and being able to watch the Sox game or taking the laptop to a friend's house to watch the game. One question I have for anyone who can answer, are you able to get both feeds (home and away) for all games or are you limited to the home feed? Say the Sox are at Cleveland, will I have to watch the Cleveland announcers like I usually do on the dish? They usually just do it randomly, I think. Well, they probably do have some type of system of picking which feed they'll use, but if they do, I have no idea what it would be.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Mar 8, 2007 -> 08:16 PM) Even despite the errors, he got beaten around pretty badly in the 3rd. Well since it wasn't on TV and I wasn't able to listen to it, I wouldn't know that... Thanks for the imput however.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Mar 8, 2007 -> 07:54 PM) I think he's way under-rated right now and I'm kind of looking for him to have a big time season where he re-establishes himselves as a pretty darn good all around SS prospect (never will he hit for power but I think the hope is that his speed, defense, and baseball smarts will allow him to get away with a lack of power; plus when I've watched him he seems to show a pretty good eye and I think he can develop into a .280 or so hitter and with that and a good eye you can have a long career when you play the D he can play). Well, from the few games I have watched this spring training, Valido has looked like a stud on defense. He has showed great range, a strong arm, and just good all-around skills. And he has looked pretty good offensively. I remember last year Ozzie said he was one of the most impressive players from the whole spring. I really am expecting a huge year out of him as that wrist injury had really hurt him last year. Wrist injuries can really ruin your bat speed and ruin your whole year. I feel BA's horrible first half last year was due in part by the wrist surgery he had in the offseason. What do you guys think about Andy Gonzalez, Chris Getz, and Pedro Lopez?

Looking from the box score along, it looks like Floyd pitched pretty well. He did give up 6 runs, but only 2 were earned. It looked he didn't get much support from the defense (2 E's by Crede and 1 by Valido).

Three Questions about your 2007 White Sox
BearSox replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in Pale Hose Talk
1. Javier Vazquez will have a Cy Young candidate year, IMO, and Gavin Floyd and the Bullpen will both surprise people 2. Joe Crede, I don't think his back will be able to hold up... sadly enough. 3. The starting rotation -
I wish I still had my laptop... stupid thing pooped out on me. I would have loved to be able to plop myself on the couch, turn on the sox game, put on the mlb.tv mosaic with the Twins, Indians, Cubs, Tigers, Royals, and whoever else, and chat in the gameday thread. But since my main computer is in a separate room with just a basic TV w/ no type of cable, I won't be able to do it until I save up enough for a new laptop.

The only way I see Ozzie not being the manager come next year is if he runs his mouth in the media again and KW would have no choice to can him. I don't see a W-L record being a factor as this team is very talented that it could have my dog as the manager and they'd still win 81 games.

QUOTE(Craig Grebeck @ Mar 8, 2007 -> 07:46 PM) I probably won't watch many games this season if they put Erstad in CF full time. What if Erstad has a great season... like his 2000 (i think it was) season...?

Terrero can play all 3 OF spots w/ above average D... Perez can barely play 1B.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Mar 7, 2007 -> 11:01 PM) Any pansy ass b**** can hit .300 at the major league level, hell Mike did it as a 21 year old. He concurred that mountain already, now he's one of the top Tax Specialists in the country. I'm sure he's making 8 figures from Metlife, they're lucky to have him. Are you kidding me? He is a specialist, not some office lackey! He is probably making 9 figures... at least!
-
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Mar 7, 2007 -> 10:57 PM) Damn straight, making something of himself unlike all you f***ing losers. Tax SPECIALIST b****, SPECIALIST. Hell yeah! Being a specialist is much better then being able to consistantly hit .300 in the majors!

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Mar 7, 2007 -> 10:53 PM) If Podsednik is not ready to start the season, and Ozzie decides Anderson does not earn the starting job, nor do Owens or Sweeney...then who else is left? Well, I guess you do have a point, but then neither Owens, Sweeney, nor Anderson would even be with the team because Ozzie wants them playing everyday. If this were to happen, my guess would be that Erstad starts and Ozzie plugs in whoever played the best out of Sweeney, Anderson, or Owens to be the other OF'er.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Mar 7, 2007 -> 10:48 PM) Anyone who questions Mike Caruso's talent is a f***ing idiot. The man had and likely still has (he's still only 29) all the talent in the world. He played some solid defense his rookie year in 1998 as a 21 year old rookie his defense only slipped the following year in '99 likely because of an unwillingness to improve on his game and some extraciricular activities that may hamper an athletes abilities. Anyone who hits .306 with 22 SBs and an 89 OPS as a 21 year old rookie obviously has some f***ing talent damnit. If he wanted to he could probably earn his way back onto a team as a backup infielder but he's likely a little occupied with other more important dealings in some latin country to work on his game at all. per wikipedia...

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Mar 7, 2007 -> 10:48 PM) If Podsednik was truly going to be out until May, I could see him having a good shot at making the big league team. But everything, and I mean everything I've read anywhere except from the folks here suggests that Podsednik will be playing baseball in April, maybe even early April. Personally though, I'd still prefer Anderson as the starting CF, even if Terrero has a better preseason. All things considered though, its entirely possible that Terrero could be a better option as a 4th OF than Erstad. Totally serious. Terrero is much less of an injury risk, because of the age/injuries to Erstad Terrero will probably play a better CF, and Terrero had a pretty darn good year at AAA last year despite the fact that he didn't see a lot of big league playing time. Oh heavens no... I don't want him to be the starter, just maybe the 4th OF'er. And about Podsednik, it seems like they are going to take it nice and slow w/ him and wait until he is fully 100% healthy.
-
I like the idea of possibly having Owens start off the year at leadoff and left field because if he does good, we have possibly found our future for leadoff hitter for a couple years at least.
-
I have been really impressed by Terrero this spring training so far. He seems to have a good skill set to be the 4th OF. He has good speed, has a little pop, can make contact, can take a walk, and plays above average D at all 3 outfield spots. Plus, he knows how to bunt! And what makes him different from everyone else is that he is past the 'prospect' phase of his career and now seems to be just a backup/situational player at the MLB level, opposed to Sweeney, Anderson, Owens, who all have starting potential still. Now, a couple weeks ago Ozzie said if Brian Anderson, Ryan Sweeney, or Jerry Owens don't win a starting spot in ST that they will start at AAA. Now, with Podsednik going to be out until about may, one of those 3 will most likely be kept. So far though, Darin Erstad has looked very good in his playing time and Anderson has looked pretty good also. Jerry Owens has barely played but has played decently, and Ryan Sweeney has been my disappoint for the spring so far. Right now if I had to choose the OF for opening day, it would likely be Erstad, LF; Anderson, CF; Dye, RF; Terrero, 4th OF. Thoughts?

QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Mar 7, 2007 -> 10:13 PM) Mike Caruso was fast. We should call him up. But Mike Caruso had a monster rookie season Back to Jerry Owens, he had very impressive AA numbers two years ago but he really struggled in AAA last year. He is pretty bad defensively but, IMO, he is better then Pods in the OF. He is also a LF, not a CF. I think Owens is best suited for 4th OF in the MLB. He has speed, he is a good contact hitter, and he could play all 3 spots if needed. But then again, he can be a decent leadoff hitter if he can work on his stealing and fine toon his hitting.

In a couple of years, Josh Fields is going to make everyone say to themselves... Joe who?
-
I personally am a big fan of Valido... could someone please explain to me the steroid issue with him? IIRC, he got busted for taking them a couple years back. But if he is clean and that was just a stupid mistake made by him when he was younger, there shouldn't be a need for any questions concerning him. I think he is our future at SS... he had a major set back last year because of that injury though. I think he will have a nice rebound this year, starting out at AA and moving up to AAA mid-way through the season. I am more worried about 2B, Getz doesn't really get me excited and Pedro Lopez might be just a better bench player.

I say forget about Buehrle for now, and try and get Dye and Iguchi... Also, when was the last time Levine ever got something rright?

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Mar 6, 2007 -> 11:15 PM) I disagree, his new pitch, the change, looked MLB caliber to me. His curve is his plus pitch and he didnt feature it much and its also hard to snap those off in AZ. Some actually think that his change is now his best pitch. He has an average fastball, a plus curve, and a plus change, and that is alI a pitcher needs to be successful in the MLB. think he will be a stud
