  1. Give you a hint, he's a retired General . . .
  2. QUOTE(Alpha Dog @ Sep 10, 2007 -> 04:22 PM) Just a quick thought about the 'poll'. Who took this poll and how the hell did they get the answers? Surely some pollster wasn't going door to door, were they? And I thought phone service was spotty at best? I simply question the ability of any objective pollster to be able to GET the information in the first place. It was the Morning Zoo on WIRQ and a call in
  3. Amazing that they would donate to a candidate they despised I am more and more for public financing of campaigns. This isn't a Dem or Gop problem, it is a citizen problem. I am sitting here wondering at what level does a donor need careful checking, $1,000? $100,000? $10,000,000? Unreal. We know candidates hate this sort of negative publicity, but it seems clean and not so clean candidates get caught.
  4. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Sep 10, 2007 -> 03:22 PM) My blood pressure isn't up. Trust me. Trust me, I know how you feel. Alone against every other post in the thread. Just check any thread marked Illegals for me
  5. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Sep 10, 2007 -> 02:54 PM) It would be like a Republician debate at Oral Roberts where the candidates were told not to mention God. Personally I would be curious to see besides Richardson who is actually bilingual, or more. Great analogy. Wasn't Bush criticized a few years back *for* speaking Spanish? I forgot the venue. I don't see it as pandering, if you know Scripture, Spanish, or where Cuba is on a map, use it. That is what seperates you from other candidates. I'd think they would be worried aboiut the backlash. If I was their opponent, I'd probably run ads in heavily anglo areas with the other guy speaking Spanish and ask "What did he say?"
  6. Kap, ths wasn't directed to you, but to the entire concept, which was basically a continuation of my earlier post mentioning Nixon, Clinton, Reagan, etc. Sorry it got your blood pressure up. In reality, I guess I was just talking to myself, the usual.
  7. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Sep 10, 2007 -> 02:49 PM) LOL. If you are going to pander, at least pander right! Debate for Hispanics, on Hispanic television, why speak Spanish?
  8. And add this thought, isn't good news in Iraq good for the GOP? So if a few hundred or thousand more soldiers are killed, and we pump a couple billion more into the country, but the GOP can show some good news, isn't that a great thing?
  9. Yep Kap, the world would be a better place with US troops everywhere. But we can't afford it, and soldiers shouldn't be dying without a very good reason. We, the American public, was sold a bill of goods that wasn't accurate. I could care less if it was a mistake or lies, what we know now is what we know and to continue to risk American lives keeping people apart who hate each other isn't on my toip ten lists of good reasons. We removed the dictator, we secured the WMD, Mission Accomplished!! We Won!
  10. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Sep 10, 2007 -> 02:35 PM) Here is a little closer look at those uninsured numbers we got told about last week. It turns out about one in five of them are not US citizens in the first place... Here are some other interesting things. http://www.speroforum.com/site/article.asp...#39;s+uninsured It would be interesting to know if they are here illegally or on a student Visa, work visa etc.
  11. We're in America, speak American . . . I'll bet the other candidates forced that little rule.
  12. QUOTE(29andPoplar @ Sep 10, 2007 -> 10:37 AM) Actually what this speaks to is the situation with the Sox bench. I am convinced they will pursue more speed for the bench and guy(s) who are very good defensively. If you attempt to build your team around pitching you'd better have stellar defense. And do not forget cost effective. That's reality.
  13. Real or fake, I guess the question should be, does this speak for the organization? If it does, it doesn't matter if it was OBL speaking or an actor.
  14. So we have at least one candidate reading blogs for news. I like that, willing to embrace new world media.
  15. Whoa Jenks if that was a summary of my views, they are wrong. I think we have to realistically look at the economic impact, and realize it is the wages that these jobs pay that determines the negative tax flow. No matter who works the job on the books, they receive more benefits then they pay for. We have to differentiate between business that knowingly hired illegals and those that were duped by forgeries. We have to accept that there are enough jobs out there to absorb these workers. Immigrants also have to accept no jobs, no immigration. To remove millions of trained workers would cripple some businesses, cripple some industries, and cause prices to skyrocket in some key areas like agriculture and housing. IIRC, two areas that people do need.
  16. I think baseball needs to just purge all this at once. Dump as much as they know, get aggressive and put it to bed. The public will get over it. A couple years of this b.s. is the alternative.

  18. What do y'all think of the timing of these?
  19. QUOTE(Jenks Heat @ Sep 10, 2007 -> 12:06 PM) Who was on the better end of these deals? I'd give them credit if they released this guys to make a point but they traded them away and got equal return. Glaus was a salary dump and they got a pretty good return in Hudson. Wasn't Grimsley still active on their roster when he was arrested? Good point, we'd have to look and see if they were dumping or they would have made those trades as a normal part of their business.
  20. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Sep 10, 2007 -> 11:33 AM) Well, yeah, sure, but the real question is, How many licks does it take to get to the Tootsie Roll center of a Tootsie Pop?? f***ing Ph.D.s BTW, that little exchange is about how my History Prof is trying to teach an on-line course. Any wonder I'm in an email flame war with him?
  21. QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Sep 10, 2007 -> 10:58 AM) jeez, i should have known to search back a couple of pages for a show that debuted that night... can a mod delete/move this to the other thread so it gets bumped? Done.
  22. ^^^^^^^^ I really wish she would go away. BTW, she does not speak for most of the people down here who I personally know, and are pro-immigration reforms that allow undocumented workers to stay and earn legal status.
  23. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Sep 10, 2007 -> 09:59 AM) Before everybody breaks an arm patting the D-Backs on the shoulder and giving them kudos, don't forget the one fact that proves they are full of garbage. Luis Gonzalez, he and his 57 home runs, THAT Luis Gonzalez, was the star offensive player of their World Title team and had the game winning hit in game 7. Without his juiced up feats that season, they never even get to the World Series. So let's just slow down here. I know a different group was running things then, but I refuse to give an organization who won a title 6 years ago with a juicer as BY FAR their best offensive player much credit. I think that gives them even more credit. They saw how to win, rejected it, and, if these accounts are true, playing by the rules. I don't think anyone is giving the organization kudos, they are giving the new owners kudos. Small difference usually, but big in this case.
  24. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Sep 10, 2007 -> 10:53 AM) It was across all 18 provinces across the entire country of Iraq. They didn't cherry pick the provinces. Your analogy does not work. To be scientifically valid, there must be steps to assure it is a representative sample. A lot of factors, besides geography, must come into play. I'm not saying it wasn't, but I doubt it.
