This is not good for Rick Ankiel
QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Sep 8, 2007 -> 02:14 PM) HGH was not always illegal. In fact, I remember various types of HGH being advertised on late night radio during the 21st century. This is not news...he used a substance that was perfectly legal in baseball and when it was banned he stopped receiving the shipment. Big deal. Thats really not much different than a player using an aluminum bat in college and than using a wood bat in the pro's (since you can't use aluminum in the pro ranks). Glaus' situation is news...Ankiels I could give a darn about. Than again I also could really give a hoot if guys are using or not. Bottom line, I love the game of baseball and the only reason I hope guys aren't juicing is because its bad for them. Sure it could taint records, but the main thing is I don't like people using a substance that is bad for them. Do you mean legal as in it wasn't specifically banned in the MLB rules book? Or as a legal dietary supplement, or available as a prescription?

This is why we have an illegal immigration problem.
Good money, please encourage your kids to miss some school and pick some crops. We need to show the farmers that there is enough legal labor out there. Let's get the Minutemen to comedown for a few weeks and pick crops, they had time to protest.

QUOTE(Alpha Dog @ Sep 10, 2007 -> 10:42 PM) No, but is should be unamerican to do government business in any language other than english. That includes printing of ballots. I don't believe that a debate is government business. How about sign language? Braille?

DEM Primaries/Candidates thread
QUOTE(Alpha Dog @ Sep 10, 2007 -> 09:45 PM) Why should they be speaking in spanish for a debate at all? Our elections are not held in mexico. If a person is able to LEGALLY vote here in this country, shouldn't they have enough grasp of the English language toat least follow a soundbyte debate? And if they can't understand english, why the hell are they voting and how did they become eligible to do so? They became eligible to vote by passing a test that most Americans can't pass. They studied and worked, and earned their citizenship. What did you do to be eligible to vote? Born here? Wow, you really earned it. Even if you are bi-lingual you will be more comfortable in one language or another. If you are selling to that person, speaking in their native tongue will set you a step ahead of the other salesperson. Duh. But OMG it is un-American to speak more than one language. God spoke on English and by golly we should too.

http://www.themonitor.com/news/workers_497...immigrants.html From my local newspaper. We grow a whole lot of the food y'all eat. This is a serious problem facing the people who feed you. More at link. What we need are thousands of people to drive on down to the Rio Grande Valley and start picking crops for a few weeks or months. Either leave everything behind or bring it with, but come on down and pick crops and then resume your life. The country needs you.

Bin Laden and Chomsky
While it is interesting to think about what is best for them, I believe we should think about what is best for the US. All of this which party does it helps pulls our attention away from that.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Sep 10, 2007 -> 04:48 PM) Thanks. I'm fairly surprised it's actually out there, but impressed that someone found it. We can find a blog that Bush is an alien, I'm not surprised that anyone can find anything.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Sep 10, 2007 -> 04:50 PM) How exactly does another donor being caught doing something underhanded make you more against public campaign financing? I would think that seeing some guys get caught would leave you wondering how many others weren't caught, and I'd think that's an argument in favor of taking the "legalized bribery" aspect out of the system. My mistake, I should read my own posts. I am more and more *for* public funding. I am concerned about the freedom of speech issues, but sometimes it is the lesser of two evils.

QUOTE(Alpha Dog @ Sep 10, 2007 -> 04:22 PM) Just a quick thought about the 'poll'. Who took this poll and how the hell did they get the answers? Surely some pollster wasn't going door to door, were they? And I thought phone service was spotty at best? I simply question the ability of any objective pollster to be able to GET the information in the first place. It was the Morning Zoo on WIRQ and a call in

Amazing that they would donate to a candidate they despised I am more and more for public financing of campaigns. This isn't a Dem or Gop problem, it is a citizen problem. I am sitting here wondering at what level does a donor need careful checking, $1,000? $100,000? $10,000,000? Unreal. We know candidates hate this sort of negative publicity, but it seems clean and not so clean candidates get caught.

DEM Primaries/Candidates thread
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Sep 10, 2007 -> 02:54 PM) It would be like a Republician debate at Oral Roberts where the candidates were told not to mention God. Personally I would be curious to see besides Richardson who is actually bilingual, or more. Great analogy. Wasn't Bush criticized a few years back *for* speaking Spanish? I forgot the venue. I don't see it as pandering, if you know Scripture, Spanish, or where Cuba is on a map, use it. That is what seperates you from other candidates. I'd think they would be worried aboiut the backlash. If I was their opponent, I'd probably run ads in heavily anglo areas with the other guy speaking Spanish and ask "What did he say?"

Kap, ths wasn't directed to you, but to the entire concept, which was basically a continuation of my earlier post mentioning Nixon, Clinton, Reagan, etc. Sorry it got your blood pressure up. In reality, I guess I was just talking to myself, the usual.

Iraq General Thread
And add this thought, isn't good news in Iraq good for the GOP? So if a few hundred or thousand more soldiers are killed, and we pump a couple billion more into the country, but the GOP can show some good news, isn't that a great thing?

Iraq General Thread
Yep Kap, the world would be a better place with US troops everywhere. But we can't afford it, and soldiers shouldn't be dying without a very good reason. We, the American public, was sold a bill of goods that wasn't accurate. I could care less if it was a mistake or lies, what we know now is what we know and to continue to risk American lives keeping people apart who hate each other isn't on my toip ten lists of good reasons. We removed the dictator, we secured the WMD, Mission Accomplished!! We Won!

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Sep 10, 2007 -> 02:35 PM) Here is a little closer look at those uninsured numbers we got told about last week. It turns out about one in five of them are not US citizens in the first place... Here are some other interesting things. http://www.speroforum.com/site/article.asp...#39;s+uninsured It would be interesting to know if they are here illegally or on a student Visa, work visa etc.

Alex Cintron...personally insuring the #1 draft pick
QUOTE(29andPoplar @ Sep 10, 2007 -> 10:37 AM) Actually what this speaks to is the situation with the Sox bench. I am convinced they will pursue more speed for the bench and guy(s) who are very good defensively. If you attempt to build your team around pitching you'd better have stellar defense. And do not forget cost effective. That's reality.

New Bin Laden tape faked?
Real or fake, I guess the question should be, does this speak for the organization? If it does, it doesn't matter if it was OBL speaking or an actor.
