QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Nov 1, 2005 -> 12:34 PM) Maybe some provision could be put in so that in documented cases of abuse there is an "out" for a woman not wanting to say anything. In most cases, however, the husband does have a right to know since the baby is half his. Can paternity be determined that early? How would it work if the woman said "I don't know who the father is?" regardless if she knows or not?

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Nov 1, 2005 -> 08:47 PM) Uuum, Tex, whats the point of the green? Top be fair, it was a three-day holiday weekend . . .

We have the theatrics and drama I'm sensing the roar of the greasepaint and the smell of the crowd All hat and no cattle Stirring up dust When something of substance actually happens, I will be overjoyed. Until then, I'm not impressed.

The average politico in the US is still light years ahead of the rest of the world. Our system allows for average people to do extraordinary things. But we can't disturb the balance by neutering the judicial branch or silencing the press. Now if we could get both parties to stop buying success with spend and don't tax deficit spending, we might have a chance. I also hope more people here do as I do. I may defend some of my favorite candidates publicly, but these leaders also get emails when I think they are screwing up. I will be very embarrassed if my hero Tom DeLay winds up in jail.

QUOTE(mr_genius @ Nov 1, 2005 -> 08:02 PM) Suprise, suprise... the NY Times prints more shotty journalism. the paper is a joke.. they know it, i know it, everyone knows it. The Times is as perfect as the humans that work there and the humans they cover.

QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Nov 1, 2005 -> 04:41 PM) Stop looking through my bedroom window, dammit! FlaSoxxJim, I served with Jaime Presely. I knew Jaime Presely. Jaime Presely was a friend of mine. FlaSoxxJim, you're no Jaime Presely.

QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Nov 1, 2005 -> 03:44 PM) You're right, of course. But Miller's involvement just pisses me off to no end. And you are right that she was a shill. She was promised some exclusive scoops and she ate it up. I guess the NYT ombudsman has reccomended she not even be allowed on the newsroom anymore. Has anybody ever had a Pulitzer Prize revoked before? No but several have been reviewed. The most famous also led to war

QUOTE(Steff @ Nov 1, 2005 -> 09:54 AM) What is the average rate down there? Florida also doesn't have state ic, their pt rate averages just above 4% on new construction. It depends on the local stuff, but last time I knew, it was around 4% with I believe a few places approaching 5%.

If only the Brewers kept Pods, then they would have won the WS Amazing the ex-player bashing that goes on. I figured since Lee didn't leave via free agency, there would have been less venom :headshake I can't wait to find out what a greedy bastard Konerko is and how it will suck for him in LA, NY, or elsewhere

QUOTE(mreye @ Nov 1, 2005 -> 09:45 AM) They'll never get it. :headshake Why would I care about OPS and slugging from my leadoff man? We should care about the on base percentage. The slugging is secondary. Which is why the stats geeks need to refine the OPS to reflect position in the order. It may be 75-25 for the lead off guy and 35-65 for the cleanup hitter.

QUOTE(Steff @ Nov 1, 2005 -> 09:42 AM) Just figure 3% of your current home value + .05, escrow that and you should be fine. A little higher in Texas. We have no state income tax, so our property taxes are slightly higher than some other states.

Thanks for the link. Interesting article.

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Nov 1, 2005 -> 09:17 AM) Yea, Tex, I about pooped my pants when I got the SCHOOL portion of my tax bill. I need to come up with some serious cash before January, or my payments on my house are about to go up 50%. Property taxes are the cruelest tax. With income tax, when you make more, you pay more. Property taxes are tied to your home value. So being property rich and income poor becomes a disastrous combination.

Texas created Regional resource centers to share high dollar resources. This has been a boom to smaller, poorer school districts. It is also a step towards eliminating the worse aspect of school financing, using property taxes. This assures the poor receive less resources than the rich. Not equal.

The usual suspects. I am wondering if at some point Frank gets bumped to DH.

ESPN: "It sounds like Paul Konerko plans to stay"
Texsox replied to rventura23's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Oct 31, 2005 -> 10:51 PM) I've always wanted to know this but if your Paul Konerko what the hell is the difference between 48 and 50 million dollars? Perhaps the difference between being the 5th highest paid first baseman and the 9th highest paid first baseman. Hang around enough pro athletes and to a man they know how they rank by salary. Same as most people. What is the difference between $45,000 and $47,000? If the guy in the next cubicle, doing the same job as you, only not as well, is making more, most people are pissed and want a raise to at least match. Don't you think a competitive athlete wants to be the highest paid at his position? Y2HH, the deferred money becomes a problem once you factor in inflation, interest, and investments. If I gave you $2,000 in 1975, you could go out and buy yourself a nice new car. If I gave you that same $2,000 in 2000, you could make a down payment. -
QUOTE(kapkomet @ Oct 28, 2005 -> 02:53 PM) Here's the thing - first of all, the leftists have been creaming their pants for this. They have wanted something to stain the Bush White House since about, oh, January, 2001. Kap that's pure hyperbole The left doesn't want bad to befall America any more than the right. Both sides want honest government without scandal. And SS, comparing getting a blow job in the WS to this pales in comparison. Look at the root events. Was America harmed when Monica serviced the first member? Was America harmed with the leak? When Americans defend bad government because it is *our* side, we have entered partisan politics and moved ourselves one step closer to a really bad, corrupt, government. In a perfect world, it would be the Dems that lead the charge at Clinton, and the GOPers the most pissed at this. I see the same thing with parents. When I was growing up parents would be pissed when kids misbehaved. "You are embarrassing me as your mom". Now they defend the bad behavior and blame someone else. If the citizens would rise up and clean up their own parties first, we'd all be better off. We need the Hammer in '08

More linked here for you reading pleasure. A couple key quotes IMHO Nasty downward cycle. The lack of development increases your property value. You have to sell to a developer to pay your taxes, and the very views that raised your values, gets worse.

Basically Rush and Hannity said the same thing as FlaSoxxJim. GOPers got their marching orders, go git 'em, get galvanized

I remember when SS did 10,000 in one weekend . . .
