QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Nov 7, 2005 -> 09:32 PM) My pooch Molly takes offense to that. No love for
  2. QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Nov 7, 2005 -> 03:14 PM) I blame George W Bush... he invented shock collars Cut off their thumbs, Vegas style QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Nov 7, 2005 -> 03:23 PM) Step 1. Take the kid(s) away. Step 2. Toss these scumbags in jail for a nice long time. People who harm children are the lowest form of life on earth. Damn Nuke, we agree again. Pretty soon we'll be picking out china patterns together The mom has some serious problems. She basically picked the new loser step dad over her daughter. BTW, no way she isn't getting abused herself. I would be soooooo shocked, to learn that asshole guy isn't abusing mom as well.

In response to no one in particular, I just like to pad my post totals. With SS playing with his new baby, I might catch in in a few years. I was surprised no one brought this up in regards to dangerous breeds, owners responsibility, etc. Why are Pit bulls bred for fighting and not poodles or beagles or joe cocker spaniels? Because their size, built, and temperament were great for that purpose to start with. Far easier to take a breed with a propensity for fighting and use them. SO yes, there can be nice, well behaved pit bulls, I've known one or two. But if a dog snaps and becomes aggressive, I'd rather have a mild mannered breed to begin with, regardless of training, than an aggressive, strong, breed.
  4. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Nov 7, 2005 -> 06:29 PM) I stand by what I said. It doesn't matter who happens to be the perp. That was just to put it in perspective. What I wonder is what violent crimes he may have committed between 97 and 04. And as I understand the 3 strike law, don't they have to be felonies? I'm not certain if the prescription violations are felonies. If not, a three strike law would not have put him in jail. Basically it appears as if the Judge just saw some drug addict, hooked on prescription drugs.
  5. Catch them and cut off their thumbs, Vegas style.

QUOTE(Mercy! @ Nov 7, 2005 -> 08:30 PM) I had a wonderful prof, so I really enjoyed this course. But that holds true about any subject, doesn’t it? However, I was late teens, early twenties then. As a mature adult, I suspect I wouldn’t have any patience for sitting through an entire semester of just Milton, at least if his religious poetry were to be the sole focus. My recommendation would be to take a general course on 17th century English literature to get a taste of some of the greats – Milton, Donne, Marvell, Dryden, Herbert, Pope. You’d never be bored. When you are an adult with kids in high school, responsibilities, volunteering, and a host of other stuff, it becomes a matter of what night is available. So Monday evening is a nice Abnormal Psy and Milton night. Pray for me . . .
  7. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Nov 7, 2005 -> 07:47 PM) It's hard for me to have to take more classes when these would fill out my course requirements on my Ph.D. Then there's that little matter of a thesis of course... I guess if you are a slacker and only want one PhD, you are done.
  8. If we begin to set prison terms based on what the victim or the victim families believe is fair, be prepared for a huge increase in the prison population and a huge tax cut to pay for it all. So any of the "what would you do if it was someone you loved" arguments is just not realistic. Since she committed the crime at 14, could it be possible she was sentenced as a juvenile and had a number of years tacked on? Could it also be she was rebelling at being locked up and may just lead a straight and narrow life to avoid going back? I'm guessing, like most here, that isn't the case and she will violate some parole restriction and wind up back out. We really don't want to be tough on crime in this country. Saddam was tough on crime and we're spending billions of dollars and thousands of lives, to make it stop.
  9. QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Nov 6, 2005 -> 12:46 AM) To put it all in perspective......... Anyone here think Ozzie would have put up with this crap if TO were playing for the White Sox and doing this? Hell no. I can't believe any Sox fan, after seeing what team can achieve, could support TO.
  10. So many cliches`. Brunette and a blond. Cheerleaders. Taking too long in the restroom. In bars everywhere as guys are tryin to leave. "common honey, what are you, a cheerleader or somethin'?" I don't think the brunette is all that bad. Plus aren't cheerleaders hired for their athletic dance moves, and their ablity to get fans excited?
  11. Obtaining prescription drugs by fraud, isn't that what Rush was convicted of? I don't think the three strikes law would have nailed him. 1997 and 2004 were the only violent crimes. The rest were prescription drug convictions, unless the stun gun was a felony.
  12. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Nov 7, 2005 -> 05:35 PM) Remember this thread when people start getting upset about mandatory sentencing guidelines. Aren't you the one that doesn't like to pay for prisoner's room and board? Why would you support a position that requires offenders, who a parole board deems safe to be let out, to stay longer at tax payer's expense? Let's let Judges judge and let politicians politic. Isn't that the GOP way? Keep the judicial out of the legislature, shouldn't the legislature stay out of the judicial?

Let's write a new law. How small of a bill should they prosecute? $20, $50, $100? Basically, as soon as you come up with a number, in theory, every tax payer could short their bill that amount. Multiply that by millions of tax payers, and you will have a better understanding why there isn't a minimum before prosecuting.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Nov 7, 2005 -> 02:14 PM) Signing up with Cingular was you first mistake. Call them daily and b**** about every single thing that goes wrong and try to get out of your contract. They are basically a criminal organization as far as I am concerned. Their customer service personel use fake names, so that when they tell you they are going to do something, you can find them to prove it. Don't EVER sign up with Cingular wireless. Never had a problem with them. From time to time, I've put my "extra" phones on Sprint, T-Mobile, and Verizon and always came back to Cingular. It is probably the area you live. Verizon was by far the worst service I have had in 15 years.
  15. QUOTE(Mercy! @ Nov 7, 2005 -> 02:18 PM) My standard reply #1 to Nuke's incessant trolling (@ Post #11) My standard reply #2 to Nuke's incessant trolling (@ Post #7) QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Nov 7, 2005 -> 02:45 PM) Fair enough. Post 13 becomes my standard response to your shrill babble. Do they still make paint by numbers kits? They could package a debate by numbers kit and include it free. Both extremes embarrass the bulk of the voters. One issue I see as a conservative Democrat, or as a liberal Republican, is both parties want all or nothing. Either you agree with everything the party tosses out, or you are ostracized. The Dem party faithful don't like to here my gun control speech, and the GOP party faithful don't like to hear my anti-death penalty stance. Neither party wants to hear me tell them to quit spending so much money, quit giving tax cuts until their is a budget surplus, pay down the debt, don't borrow from countries that don't support out values, act responsibly, quit being petty and vindictive when you lose, act like statesmen, etc.

QUOTE(RibbieRubarb @ Nov 7, 2005 -> 08:43 AM) Some find Milton to a very arrogant and manipulative writer and other find him inspiring and love the challenges he brings to you as you read his work. It should provide a healthy stream of debates during class. But y'all know me, I hate to debate

Looking over next semester, the convienent English class is Milton of Paradise Lost fame. Anyone a fan? I'm trying to decide to take it or not.

QUOTE(mr_genius @ Nov 6, 2005 -> 09:50 PM) i totally agree. Just like those uppity blacks in the 1960s. They should have just gone back
  20. QUOTE(EvilMonkey @ Nov 6, 2005 -> 10:27 PM) Tex, while it may indeed contain accusations about other contractors, the story as linked mentions only Halliburton. Also, if the audits are still continuing, as reported, why say these things now? You have the whole figure put out there, and only the name of Halliburton, when there may be other contractors involved, and the final tally may be less. Releasing this info to the public serves no good except to inflame an already tense region even more, and to tweak Georgie. If the audits are turning up problems, they may have a legal obligation to report the findings, I'm not certain. We've seen the opposite, where s*** hits the fan and we learn a company has been under investigation, yet the government continued to use them, and then it looks like a Keystone Cops movie. I don't think the UN, the auditors, or the US government has an obligation to cover for Halliburton. But, if as you say, it was to make someone look bad, I think it was to make the US look bad, not just the President. I am also a little leery when the press is expected to control information and only release it when it won't do any damage. I am certain Clinton would have preferred Monica to break after he was President. Using this example, the Starr investigation would have happened in secrecy, and nothing reported until it was "proven".
  21. Mercy! What is wrong with our society when these poor women are forced to use a restroom stall. They should have been allowed to use a booth in the bar
  22. QUOTE(EvilMonkey @ Nov 6, 2005 -> 07:56 PM) So we have yet another unnamed source giving info that is presumed to be true. No, that isn't the case at all. What we have is a named, international, multi agency, auditing board giving the information and their accusations. We also have an unnamed UN board member confirming and discussing possible UN actions and what they would like to do with all the contractors, not just Halliburton, if those accusations are true. It is tough to keep track without a scorecard.
  23. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Nov 6, 2005 -> 02:35 PM) Yeah, even though they're sitting on the board. Independent indeed. No one on the UN board is also on the audit team, I'm not certain where you are picking that up. There was one UN board member who gave background information to the reporter, but the UN Board member did not wish to give him name, to avoid the appearance it was an official announcement from the UN.
  24. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Nov 6, 2005 -> 02:08 PM) Yes I do. However, with their rush to accuse without anything to back it up I wonder just how "independent" this agency really is. Unfortunately, without any objective evidence this whole thing just stinks. War is popular because of all the profits that spring from it. Young men and women die, and investors smile. I wonder of we could take out the profit motive, make elected officials take the lead in a charge or two, how many wars would be avoided.
  25. I was also thinking some of Clinton's sexcapades as well.
