  1. I was worried, because our founding fathers knew that our well regulated militia, which guarantees I can keep my rifles, would kick some army's ass. I'd be shocked if a bunch of citizens with rifles couldn't wreck havoc with any army. Note: I'm not for taking away guns, but for taking away the justification that we have a well regulated militia. There isn't an army out there today that can stand toe to toe with the US for every long. China could wear us out with a war of attrition.
  2. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Nov 10, 2005 -> 06:05 PM) ZING! Yes, it is ironic that if you're in the media and you don't have your facts 100% checked out you get crucified, but if you are the President the same thing gets you the war you asked Santa for. Sadly, we have grown up expecting Presidents to lie.
  3. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Nov 10, 2005 -> 01:58 PM) If they were going to do serious damage to our Army in Iraq like you talked about then they're gonna need a lot more than they have in their bag of tricks right now. Then Nuke are you saying the weapons that the average Iraqis have in their homes, isn't having much effect against the US Army? I am assuming they have the run of the mil hunting type rifles.

QUOTE(bmags @ Nov 9, 2005 -> 12:49 PM) journalism pros: get to meet many people and understand your community sense of accomplishment in the work communications cons: starting pay low deadlines some fields competitive (broadcast/sports) i'm in journalism at u of missouri, and they recruit kids out of our j-school, so i feel pretty good about getting a job out of school even if its but 35-40K coming out You did pass the secret, liberal only test, they give to assure that all journalists think the same and will work together to elect Presidents?! And to clarify my point above. Experience stringing during college, demonstrate you can write, have almost any major, and you will be employed. Look on TV and see Greta for example, a shining example of a lawyer, turned commentator.

Take your University Catalog. Start on page one and circle every course that you think you would enjoy taking. When you are finished, thumb through and see where the circled classes are. You just found your major. Later, when you are interviewing for positions, many will ask for a college degree, and it won't even be in the field you are interviewing. For example, many businesses like to hire Psychology majors for certain positions, not business majors. Newspapers want to degrees in economics, science, business, etc instead of a journalism degree. Why? Because the history of journalism isn't much use when you are interviewing the new Federal Reserve Board Chairperson, but economics would be nifty.
  6. Do you really think Bin Laden would have abandoned his plan to ram jets into the World Trade Center, to swap bombs with the US military? GMAB. Terrorists do not need countries to plan or carry out their attacks. McVeigh is the classic example. So the terror sponge doesn't hold up with me. Terrorists don't want to take on the US Military, they know that too many Americans don't care if the military dies, after all that's what our tax dollars pay for and only anti-American commies believe 1,000 or 2,000 dying is wrong. Bush can hide our war dead, and the GOPerheads believe he is right. You can't hide 2,000 civilian caskets. The terrorists recruit their criminal co-conspirators by preaching America is an evil land, out to destroy them. When we start bombing Iraq, killing women and children (s*** happens in war), we become their greatest recruiter. True, the people of Iraq are better off that Saddam is gone. Thousands of US families are worse off, visiting graves of their loved ones. Millions of Americans are worse off, funding the destruction and reconstruction of Iraq with loans that our children's children will be paying off. Some will say that is a fair trade, others will not.

  8. It seems that a young Texas Aggie volunteered for military service during World War II. He had such a high aptitude for aviation that he was sent right to a Naval Air Station, skipping recruit training. The very first day he solos and is the best flier on the base. All they could do was give him his gold wings and assign him immediately to an aircraft carrier in the Pacific. On his first day aboard, he took off and single-handedly shot down 6 Japanese fighter planes. Then climbing up to 20,000 feet, he found 9 more Japanese planes and shot them all down as well. Noting that his fuel was getting low, he descended, circled the carrier and came in for a perfect landing on the deck. He threw back the canopy, climbed out and jogged over to the captain. Saluting smartly he said, "Well sir, how did I do on my very first day?" The captain turned around, bowed politely, and replied, "You make onry one velly, velly selious mistake."

  15. Kap, I'm going to call b.s. speculation on your statement that we haven't been attacked again because of Iraq. What did our war with Iraq do to stop Bin Laden? Does he fear a reprisal attack on his country? We don't even know where he is. Are all the terrorists in Iraq and we got them all? I don't see how you can say by attacking Iraq we stopped every nut ball idealist from attacking. We have not been attacked fr a variety of reasons and the war with Iraq is not a big factor and I would want to explore the idea that diverting so much resources to Iraq that we have hurt our domestic security, not increased it. I will agree that Clinton's actions *and* the resulting investigation, limited any response he may have had. If he did launch the same attack, the GOP attack dogs would have been chanting tail wag the dog.
  16. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Nov 9, 2005 -> 12:45 PM) Being the Soxy of Economics I want to make just one point of emphasis here. We don't, and have never had, anything close a billion dollar deficit. Multi-trillion debt, yes. Trillion dollar deficit no. To amplify SS, here is a nice little CBO table showing the growth in the deficit. http://www.cbo.gov/showdoc.cfm?index=1821&sequence=0 Notice the last surpluses came at the end of Clinton's second term. The largest deficits have been during Republican administrations, the lowest deficits, and the only surpluses in a long time, came during Democratic administrations. I always felt that fiscal responsibility was the cornerstone of the GOP platform and the #1 reason I would vote GOP.
  17. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Nov 9, 2005 -> 12:37 PM) And I disagree with that. There's just as much intelligence that was floated out there pre-Bush that said exactly the same thing. I see what you're saying, but there's just as much '*' going on pre-2001 as there was in 2003. Are you stating that Clinton or Bush made the better decision with the data?
  18. Clinton made a decision and the inspectors kept going. Bush made a decision and 2,000 plus Americans are dead, we are billions more in debt, with hundreds of billions still to spend. I believe Bush's decision has turned out to be wrong. In fairness, at the time, I felt it was a tough decision that would be heralded as a huge win or a huge mistake. No middle ground. I still believe that. I would not have wanted to be the man to make that decision. I don't believe it is fair to blame Bush for a wrong decision here. I'm not convinced the "evidence" was fabricated, I think it was judged with a propensity to go to war, and not a propensity to avoid war. Different people, with different views, looked at the evidence and came up with different decisions. I think Americans would be better off today with out our military tied down in Iraq. I think the American economic picture would be better without the trillion dollar deficits. A wrong decision was made, but not for evil reasons. An honest decision was made. I don't know what more I can add.
  19. Two different men, made two very different decisions, based on some of the same intelligence. It would seem to me that in those intervening years, we gathered more intelligence. We will never know exactly why Clinton didn't go to war and we will never know exactly why Bush did. Is the country better off with the decision Clinton made, or the decision Bush made? That seems to be the question.

    Pay those taxes..

Just to be clear, they did not sue her, they arrested her. This is a criminal case. I guess the alternative would be to write her a ticket and ask her to please pay the ticket, but since she didn't have the $1.16 for the taxes, I doubt she will pay the ticket. I'm still surprised at the people that think not paying a small amount of taxes should not be a criminal offense. Stealing from the government doesn't seem to have the same thought as stealing from an individual.
