  1. This thread is not about attacking President Carter, but about discussing Bush's values conflicting with American values.
  2. This is for Dems to discuss what the party can do to help raise more money for the upcoming elections. It is not for Republicans to come in and heckle and POLITICIZE this discussion. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/conte...1101833_pf.html As you can see this is from the unbelievably GOP biased Washington Post so take it with a grain of salt.

    Odd Bush thing.

QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Nov 11, 2005 -> 04:23 PM) It all sucks until you learn who invented the t-test. Thet it becomes a thing of beauty. Any guesses? Tex? Soxy?? I do And shouldn't it really be a B-test and not a T-test?
  4. QUOTE(rudylaw @ Nov 12, 2005 -> 08:48 PM) Trust me it makes me sick how much monry these guys make but we live in a capitalistic society were the goal is to make as much as possible. I don't see how a company can do that and get in trouble. We break up monopolies. We are not 100% pure market driven. We do look out of the "public good". Oil companies could cripple our country. Everything imaginable from plastics to chemicals, to food additives, are touched by the oil industry. Factor in transportation and see how important those industries are. Yes, SS, it is three completely dfifferent scenarios, showing that we regulate and control profits in a wide variety of ways for the public good. We sacrifice profits for job safety, we sacrifice profits for pollution standards, etc. So the make as much money as possible isn't 100% accurate. Again, looking into and shining a light isn't by itself a bad thing, what they do once they conclude the hearings is a completely different matter.

    VETERAN'S DAY

QUOTE(Controlled Chaos @ Nov 11, 2005 -> 04:11 PM) You seem destined to start s*** in this thread and I'm not sure why. Dittos Maybe next time we could just have three or four standard greetings and people could just pick one and then we would have the thread that the starter demands. We would not want actual discussions on how Veterans are treated when we could just click on a few smileys So I feel so much better supporting Troops this way. Now I'll go buy a magnet and really show support, Stupid me going to a VFW memorial.

  8. QUOTE(qwerty @ Nov 11, 2005 -> 03:42 PM) With what? Suckers and balloon animals? Come on... if he didn't want to have sex with someone 70 years older than him and of the same sex ( assuming he is not gay) he could have said fish you and leave. I have watched the Boy Scout youth protection training dozens of times and am one of the trainers. Possible scenarios include giving the kid alcohol or drugs, then telling the kid he's going to get into trouble unless he consents. Showing the kid attention, offering to buy him things. Gradually shutting the kid off from everything else, then threatening to abondon the kid unless he consents. All sorts of scenarios that sick people do to kids.
  9. QUOTE(qwerty @ Nov 11, 2005 -> 03:36 PM) You telling me this kid got raped by an 87 year old man? If he didn't want to have sex witht he 87 year old guy i think he could have gotten away rather easily... no? Adults can manipulate kids.
  10. QUOTE(Mercy! @ Nov 11, 2005 -> 02:36 PM) If the 16-year old were a female, this thread would already have 900 views, y’all would be shouting for pictures, and most posters would be high-fiving the old fart. Not that you have to be consistent, though. I just wanted to point out the obvious. Mercy!, I'm going to call a b.s. here, you got that one wrong. In the years I've been here, we've been pretty consistent in disgust towards child abuse. Now if the girl was 21, then a high five would be in order for her getting an old man that excited. No need for pictures. And it isn't that we universally are against same gender sex. I believe most were positive about the Carolina cheerleaders in the restroom.
  11. I moved this to our sports bar. Better place for it. Welcome to Soxtalk
  12. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Nov 11, 2005 -> 08:44 AM) I think it is in our best interests for the legal system to make sure that the profits were legally gotten. Beyond that, we live in a capitalistic society, if we take away the profit motivation of companies, why would anyone invest in this country? We do not create laws to maximize company profits. We do not have a completely free market. Ma Bell was doing great when they were forced to break up into smaller companies. The tobacco industry was making great profits until they were forced to spend hundreds of millions on anti-smoking campaigns. Yet, there is still investment in those industries. Once again Congress is availing themselves of constitutionally guaranteed powers. I would be hypocritical to state they should not do that. After all I believe as long as the judicial branch is following the same constitution, we are in good hands. What Congress does after this would bring out debate on the type of issues that you raise.

birth control? I use my looks and personality
  14. I agree there is an awful lot of political jockeying going on, on both sides. But I think congress has unique subpoena powers which are very helpful in this. Plus, congress looking at this is far more worrisome to a company that some assistant junior deputy in the justice department. Cutting out the b.s. politics for a moment, do you think it is in the nation's best interest to keep close tabs on what the oil industry is doing?
  15. Humans wouldn't have stood a chance millions of years ago.
  16. Let me see if y'all think these two things should be linked. According to Bush suporters: A.) The economy would have been much, much better if energy prices had remained lower. B.) We shouldn't be interested in oil company profits. Oil companies could cripple the US economy. If they are engaging in collusion to raise prices, shouldn't the government step in, investigate, and prosecute? Isn't that in our nation's best interest? It seems like we should be very interested in this industry. Of course as we discussed in other threads, we could just stop buying oil and oil related products like everything in our house from chemicals to plastics.
  17. QUOTE(Steff @ Nov 11, 2005 -> 08:04 AM) Larussa no doubt as well.
  18. I actually have met more Bears players, having lived up in Lake County near Lake Forest. Of the Sox players I have met, the most memorable was Harold Baines. One of the nicest gentlemen anywhere. On the football side, I had the fun experience of living near Glen Kozlowski, a specialty teams player and wide receiver. We spent many summer evenings on Gages Lake, with our boats. His kids are as crazy and reckless as he is.

    VETERAN'S DAY

One of the ways I support our active military is to be vigilant and demand the use of our military as a last chance solution, when to do nothing would be far worse. The young men and women we send to battle deserve that from the US population. To just blindly wave flags and cheer as they go off to battle, because we trust our President, is a cop out. I support our Troops enough to be concerned about what hill they may die on. So Kap, even unintentionally, you seem to infer that anti-war is anti-military. Nothing can be further from the truth with me. I care enough about our servicemen and women to protest ill advised, and unjust wars. If, as a US citizen, I (we elect the leaders so it is our responsibility) send them off to battle, it will damn certainly be worth dying for. Isn't that really supporting the Troop? I respect those that have worn the uniform with pride, that have served with honor and dignity. Each member, regardless of role, has my unending gratitude for serving this country. And please, pause to remember that for many in our forces, this is their adopted country. Mexico has sent many of their young people to die on the battlefield for the United States, and they die Mexican citizens. We don't even automatically recognize them with US citizenship posthumously. It is a calling that few truly have, and we are lucky our nation has produced the greatest warriors this planet has ever seen. If you have a chance, visit Arlington. It is impossible to stand there and not be moved. Perhaps moved to fly a flag and cheer those heading to battle, each and every time. Perhaps moved to assure we never need to break ground there again. Peace.
  20. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Nov 10, 2005 -> 11:25 PM) LOL!!! That movie was awesome. That was the 80's however. Nowadays teenagers would be 10 times more vicious. Can you imagine the reaction of todays teens if you took away their cell phones internet and pot? Christ, the commies wouldn't stand a chance. First, 90% would have to learn that guns shoot actual bullets. "Hey, this is just like Half Life!"
