birth control? I use my looks and personality
  2. I agree there is an awful lot of political jockeying going on, on both sides. But I think congress has unique subpoena powers which are very helpful in this. Plus, congress looking at this is far more worrisome to a company that some assistant junior deputy in the justice department. Cutting out the b.s. politics for a moment, do you think it is in the nation's best interest to keep close tabs on what the oil industry is doing?
  3. Humans wouldn't have stood a chance millions of years ago.
  4. Let me see if y'all think these two things should be linked. According to Bush suporters: A.) The economy would have been much, much better if energy prices had remained lower. B.) We shouldn't be interested in oil company profits. Oil companies could cripple the US economy. If they are engaging in collusion to raise prices, shouldn't the government step in, investigate, and prosecute? Isn't that in our nation's best interest? It seems like we should be very interested in this industry. Of course as we discussed in other threads, we could just stop buying oil and oil related products like everything in our house from chemicals to plastics.

  9. I actually have met more Bears players, having lived up in Lake County near Lake Forest. Of the Sox players I have met, the most memorable was Harold Baines. One of the nicest gentlemen anywhere. On the football side, I had the fun experience of living near Glen Kozlowski, a specialty teams player and wide receiver. We spent many summer evenings on Gages Lake, with our boats. His kids are as crazy and reckless as he is.

One of the ways I support our active military is to be vigilant and demand the use of our military as a last chance solution, when to do nothing would be far worse. The young men and women we send to battle deserve that from the US population. To just blindly wave flags and cheer as they go off to battle, because we trust our President, is a cop out. I support our Troops enough to be concerned about what hill they may die on. So Kap, even unintentionally, you seem to infer that anti-war is anti-military. Nothing can be further from the truth with me. I care enough about our servicemen and women to protest ill advised, and unjust wars. If, as a US citizen, I (we elect the leaders so it is our responsibility) send them off to battle, it will damn certainly be worth dying for. Isn't that really supporting the Troop? I respect those that have worn the uniform with pride, that have served with honor and dignity. Each member, regardless of role, has my unending gratitude for serving this country. And please, pause to remember that for many in our forces, this is their adopted country. Mexico has sent many of their young people to die on the battlefield for the United States, and they die Mexican citizens. We don't even automatically recognize them with US citizenship posthumously. It is a calling that few truly have, and we are lucky our nation has produced the greatest warriors this planet has ever seen. If you have a chance, visit Arlington. It is impossible to stand there and not be moved. Perhaps moved to fly a flag and cheer those heading to battle, each and every time. Perhaps moved to assure we never need to break ground there again. Peace.

QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Nov 10, 2005 -> 11:25 PM) LOL!!! That movie was awesome. That was the 80's however. Nowadays teenagers would be 10 times more vicious. Can you imagine the reaction of todays teens if you took away their cell phones internet and pot? Christ, the commies wouldn't stand a chance. First, 90% would have to learn that guns shoot actual bullets. "Hey, this is just like Half Life!"

I was worried, because our founding fathers knew that our well regulated militia, which guarantees I can keep my rifles, would kick some army's ass. I'd be shocked if a bunch of citizens with rifles couldn't wreck havoc with any army. Note: I'm not for taking away guns, but for taking away the justification that we have a well regulated militia. There isn't an army out there today that can stand toe to toe with the US for every long. China could wear us out with a war of attrition.
  14. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Nov 10, 2005 -> 06:05 PM) ZING! Yes, it is ironic that if you're in the media and you don't have your facts 100% checked out you get crucified, but if you are the President the same thing gets you the war you asked Santa for. Sadly, we have grown up expecting Presidents to lie.

QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Nov 10, 2005 -> 01:58 PM) If they were going to do serious damage to our Army in Iraq like you talked about then they're gonna need a lot more than they have in their bag of tricks right now. Then Nuke are you saying the weapons that the average Iraqis have in their homes, isn't having much effect against the US Army? I am assuming they have the run of the mil hunting type rifles.

QUOTE(bmags @ Nov 9, 2005 -> 12:49 PM) journalism pros: get to meet many people and understand your community sense of accomplishment in the work communications cons: starting pay low deadlines some fields competitive (broadcast/sports) i'm in journalism at u of missouri, and they recruit kids out of our j-school, so i feel pretty good about getting a job out of school even if its but 35-40K coming out You did pass the secret, liberal only test, they give to assure that all journalists think the same and will work together to elect Presidents?! And to clarify my point above. Experience stringing during college, demonstrate you can write, have almost any major, and you will be employed. Look on TV and see Greta for example, a shining example of a lawyer, turned commentator.

Take your University Catalog. Start on page one and circle every course that you think you would enjoy taking. When you are finished, thumb through and see where the circled classes are. You just found your major. Later, when you are interviewing for positions, many will ask for a college degree, and it won't even be in the field you are interviewing. For example, many businesses like to hire Psychology majors for certain positions, not business majors. Newspapers want to degrees in economics, science, business, etc instead of a journalism degree. Why? Because the history of journalism isn't much use when you are interviewing the new Federal Reserve Board Chairperson, but economics would be nifty.

Do you really think Bin Laden would have abandoned his plan to ram jets into the World Trade Center, to swap bombs with the US military? GMAB. Terrorists do not need countries to plan or carry out their attacks. McVeigh is the classic example. So the terror sponge doesn't hold up with me. Terrorists don't want to take on the US Military, they know that too many Americans don't care if the military dies, after all that's what our tax dollars pay for and only anti-American commies believe 1,000 or 2,000 dying is wrong. Bush can hide our war dead, and the GOPerheads believe he is right. You can't hide 2,000 civilian caskets. The terrorists recruit their criminal co-conspirators by preaching America is an evil land, out to destroy them. When we start bombing Iraq, killing women and children (s*** happens in war), we become their greatest recruiter. True, the people of Iraq are better off that Saddam is gone. Thousands of US families are worse off, visiting graves of their loved ones. Millions of Americans are worse off, funding the destruction and reconstruction of Iraq with loans that our children's children will be paying off. Some will say that is a fair trade, others will not.

  21. It seems that a young Texas Aggie volunteered for military service during World War II. He had such a high aptitude for aviation that he was sent right to a Naval Air Station, skipping recruit training. The very first day he solos and is the best flier on the base. All they could do was give him his gold wings and assign him immediately to an aircraft carrier in the Pacific. On his first day aboard, he took off and single-handedly shot down 6 Japanese fighter planes. Then climbing up to 20,000 feet, he found 9 more Japanese planes and shot them all down as well. Noting that his fuel was getting low, he descended, circled the carrier and came in for a perfect landing on the deck. He threw back the canopy, climbed out and jogged over to the captain. Saluting smartly he said, "Well sir, how did I do on my very first day?" The captain turned around, bowed politely, and replied, "You make onry one velly, velly selious mistake."
