  3. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Nov 16, 2005 -> 07:34 AM) After reading all of this, I agree with Rex's statement that the far right and far left have so far hijacked the moderate stance that we ALL have a bad name for believeing ANYTHING anymore. Jimmy Carter and Billy Graham are GREAT examples of where I wish the "extreme" positions were. If that were the case, we'd be a lot better for it. Both are very good men.
  4. but I like Julie Andrews . . . please don't make me leave. :rolly btw, Rex, meet Mercy!, Mercy! this is Rex aka winodj. If you are booking a cruise, he's got all the insider information.
  5. QUOTE(YASNY @ Nov 16, 2005 -> 07:24 AM) I also used that very justification as well. The point is that it COULD be derived from racist remarks and it wouldn't shock me if that was the case. Of course, they could have been talking about shovels. Ah the joys of google http://www.randomhouse.com/wotd/index.pperl?date=19970115 However, we could find origins of gay as meaning happy, and other words that have been hijacked and their meaning changed to hurt someone. Common sense and decency tells me to avoid phrases that could be misconstrued and hurtful.
  6. QUOTE(Misquoter @ Nov 16, 2005 -> 01:20 AM) You're so quick to point out people who are an embarassment like Jackson, Farakan etc...etc.... They do not represent mainstream Democrats and you know it. They are a tiny, yet vocal, minority. Those idiots do Democrats a disservice because their rediculous statements are just what the Liberal bigots need so they can point their finger and say "That's the liberal left". Ahem, Nuke, would you mind doing the same thing when you think of liberals? Substitute liberals for Christians in your post and you hit the nail on the head.
  7. I would hope the people drawing up an Energy Policy would meet with oil company execs. I wonder why they lied?
  8. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Nov 16, 2005 -> 01:12 AM) Dead wrong on 1 count and debateable on the other. We spend far more money on the VA now than we did when Bush took office. The problem is that demand is outstripping those funding increases. As far as combat pay goes Secretary Rumsfeld, and Ive been over this before, proposed cutting back combat pays for those who serve is safe locations overseas such as Qatar, Baharian, Kuwait, etc.......etc and using those funds to go to increasing combat pay of soldiers serving in hot zones like Iraq and Afghanistan. Unfortunately that was seen as something it wasn't and never got off the ground. Cost per soldier is going down with the VA under Bush. Perhaps this is another area we could spend money on and not cut taxes? He is doing a fine job of creating more wounded Veterans, maybe we could do a better job of taking care of them?

Looking over the design, I'm not so sure this is as useful as I originally thought. It appears as if the child has to pull up on a velcro patch to pull out the pin. With someone grabbing them, quite possibly by the straps of the backpack, that may be impossible. Those small security alarms can be placed in a pocket, or hung on a belt. Having one not mounted on the strap may be better. I like the idea, I just wonder if the design could be made easier for a child to pull the pin.

  12. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Nov 15, 2005 -> 09:44 PM) I know that. The reason being is because Republicans have traditionally taken better care of the people in uniform. However, there are a lot of soldiers who think we have no business in Iraq but go anyway because it's their job. No argument here.
  13. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Nov 15, 2005 -> 09:09 PM) Shoveling, what is that? I had to take a marine ecology class out in the field this weekend, and I got a sunburn. :rolly

  15. QUOTE(zach61 @ Nov 14, 2005 -> 05:00 PM) It's not the contract that I dislike him for. It's the fact that he went to the Rangers for the money and then complains about not winning and saying he never just went there for the money. If the Rangers fit his needs and it was for the money, then why was he whining after a few yrs? He went where he wanted and got what he wanted and then changed his mind and the yanks were able to bail him out. At the very least, he should have come out and said he went to the highest bidder instead of blowing smoke up our asses and then expect us to feel sorry for him cause the rangers sucked. The Rangers expected higher attendance, and expected to raise the payroll even higher and attract more free agents. To that end, they promised A-Rod certain things that would make the team more competitive. The attendance did not spike enough, the Rangers were not able to attract more free agents, and wanted out of the contract they offered as much as A-Rod wanted to leave. Now imagine if players didn't care about the money. I just want to win. Get me on the Yankees or Braves at any cost. What does that do to the competitive balance in baseball? To follow your logic, every free agent in baseball should be kicking themselves for not signing with the Sox for any price. And as far as going to the highest bidder, how much of a difference is there between the Rangers, Mariners, and Pirates? What the hell else are you going to judge it on? Mr. Owner, I am looking over your offer and please reduce it by $4,000,000 per year and buy another player.
  16. Let me try and explain my point. 15-year old males fantasize a lot about sex. Hormones, etc. are changing, erections are occurring, not always at appropriate times, and in general they are growing up. A 15 year old is probably not thinking of himself as getting molested. He is thinking of himself as a stud. It is probably being reinforced by the lady that is interested in him. As an adult, I am disgusted by the situation. The 15-year old is probably confused why this is a problem. Your perspective changes with age and probably is gender influenced as well. And btw, I am not trying to defend the molestation quote, but it depending on the age of the author, would help to substantiate my point.
  17. From my buddy John, he's staying in touch. He's a decorated, Vietnam War Vet and a really involved community activist and leader.
  18. With all due respect to Steff and Soxy, there are probably more than a few guys here who are thinking at 15, sex with a willing female would have been pretty cool. Whether that is societal norms, or real differences in males vs. females, I don't know. I do know at 15 I was sexually active and really would have though an older woman was cool. Now, as an adult, I see the abuse and how it would effect a kid. I'm not sure at what point between 15 and 44 I came to realize that.

  23. QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Nov 15, 2005 -> 08:15 AM) Ooh, how about last week when I had to be at work at 6:30 AM to do "visibility"? did you remember to clock me in? I was doing "invisibility"
  24. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Nov 15, 2005 -> 08:08 AM) But the players should be smart enough to realise, on the right team they can make a definite impact, and help push that team over the edge. For example if you're a catcher, and all of the good teams already have catchers who have better abilities than you, than you're gonna be hard-pressed to sign with one of those good teams. Of course if you're say Rafael Furcal, and the Yanks and the Royals offer you the exact same deal, of course you're going to want to play for the Yanks. That's why those low revenue franchises have to build with young players (like the Indians have done), and try to catch some breaks on the FA market like they did with Kevin Millwood. So you would value being a starter over being the backup? How many free agents don't wish they had signed with the White Sox during the past off season?
