  1. By state, Kerry won 8 of the 10. I guess when you feel safe, you can vote Democrat.

My boys are really learning to cook. I challenged my Scouts to improve their cooking and menu planning this weekend. The results was me gaining some weight. Breakfast Saturday was easy donuts. They deep fried the dough in a dutch oven and tossed them in cinnamon sugar or powdered sugar. Lunch was a beef soup. It could have used some noodles, but it was still very good. A friend of mine had his Troop at the same camp so we combined dinners for a feast of sorts. My guys made a beef roast with carrots, potatoes, and jalapenos. They also made a chicken and stuffing dish. My top cook added the "trinity" of celery, onions, and peppers to the chicken dish and tossed in some mushroom soup. It turned out perfect. For dessert they made a cherry cobbler. The next breakfast for suppose to be blueberry muffins, but they forgot we don't have muffin tins so they made one giant muffin and started calling it Smurf™ Cake. I love it when they actually learn some things. One kid was making his first campout and was so excited all weekend.
  3. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Nov 21, 2005 -> 08:13 AM) In my case it just means I see there is no point in talking about it with some people on here. I used to think Juggernaut was insane when he pointed to bias in the way that some people handled subjects and posters... Now I wonder. I just think it is better to post the current statements and comment on that. It seemed to be a slow weekend and I'm guessing no one had a chance to post Bush's current quotes. It would be like one of the Liberals around here posting that no one posted that the GOP controlled House voted themselves a pay raise while cutting food stamps.

  9. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Nov 21, 2005 -> 07:37 AM) But is blowing yourself up to avoid surrender considered a suicide bombing? By the time his followers hear about it, it wasn't to avoid surrender, they trapped the infidels and blew the enemy up. Then the American press slandered the memory of a great martyr. In other words, it just doesn't matter how he really died. The war continues and in his "honor" a dozen more young men sign up :headshake
  10. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Nov 21, 2005 -> 07:39 AM) The irony is that there are about 50 posts here and in other threads condeming the "viscinoussness" of the White House on Rep. Murtha. When the tone changes, and something good is said, *crickets*. It definitely says that with the notable exception of Rex Kickass talking about Isreali progress, how quick to point out all the faults of the current administration is, but when something is done to try to bridge the "hostility", it's not recognized. So go chew on your pretzel. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Nov 21, 2005 -> 07:41 AM) There isn't much point to posting anything that isn't anti-Bush on here anymore. Notice no green. I honestly was gone all weekend from any news sources, but is it better for the debate to post what Bush is saying, or to post what other posters are not saying? It appears that Bush Backers are now resorting to attacking the other posters and not defending Bush. That is sadder to me than Bush Bashers not posting his latest remarks.
  11. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Nov 21, 2005 -> 07:40 AM) Some plant closings... -OK City by early 06 -Lansing by mid 06 -Spring Hill TN by end of 06 -Doraville GA in 08 Shifts are being cut at a couple of other plants... Are they cutting any over seas plants? Are they cutting back any outsourcing?
  12. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Nov 21, 2005 -> 07:30 AM) It could be reported that he was wearing a dress and a curly wig hosting a martyr for his dolls... that wasn't my question though. Then yes, suicide bombing is a way to martyrdom, but you knew that.
  13. Could be good for the border area. Plus better jobs in Mexico keeps more Mexican workers home and the border region safer. As soon as Mexico's economy is so strong that they do not need to risk their lives for jobs up north, then only terrorists will be crossing the border illegally.

  15. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Nov 21, 2005 -> 07:16 AM) It amazes me the tone when people are challenged around here. The patronization is amazing. It's kind of like our president. LOL, you are still amazed? That's wonderful to be so childishly amazed. I kid because I care™ I just thought it was funny that SS didn't post a link to Bush's statements. That seemed more important than pointing out that no one else did. But nice call, here's a pretzle, chew carefully.
  16. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Nov 21, 2005 -> 07:07 AM) So is committing suicide to avoid being arrested enough to be a "martyr"? It could be reported that the ugly American blood thirsty infidels bombed him and he dies a martyr. Remember their press is as unreliable and biased as ours.
  17. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Nov 21, 2005 -> 07:04 AM) What no references on here to Bush praising Murtha and his service? I am shocked What, not just posting Bush praising Murtha, but taking a shot at everyone else, I'm shocked From the Wichita Star
  18. Happy Birthday to you . . .
  19. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Nov 21, 2005 -> 12:07 AM) Now you want to speculate about what the founders intent was when they wrote the 2nd Amendment. The answer is.......who knows. All we can do is abide by it. I think anyone who has proper training and obtains them through legal means should be able to own a firearm. The biggest misconception about gun-rights advocates is that they are all about handing out weapons to whoever wants them. Thats not true at all. I find it funny that people rant and rave about the NRA but they dont realize that they are the strongest proponents of the type of responsible gun ownership I just outlined. They spend a trainload of money offering free classes to people about firearms ownership and marksmanship and also spend a great deal of time helping train soldiers going overseas. I agree with you here. As far a speculation, that's almost a separate issue. I have some issues with the NRA, but they do a lot of good work. They have been over zealous at times in defending some laws and fighting others but they seem to have pulled back from the extremes. I am no longer a member so I'm back to just following some news reports.
  20. I don't believe the Second Amendment really was meant for a modern day Joe Sixpack and his handgun. At the time the Constitution was written, it was nearly impossible, and certainly inconvienent, to live without a gun. The country would not be able to afford a standing Army like any would be attackers, so a well regulated militia would come from the citizens. I'm not anti-gun and would love to be on the range tomorrow with you, I've never had the pleasure of shooting a Glock. I love a piece of well made machinery. I think if gun owners were more responsible the world would be a better place. I believe to be effective for home protection and gun must be readily available, loaded, and ready to go in seconds, so no complicated safety devices, no locked up ammo. That of course, is a recipe for disaster with children around, so I invested in a really good security system, and a home in a good neighborhood and leave my guns very well secured.

QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Nov 20, 2005 -> 11:36 PM) Quick: 2 cool points for the name of the band Rafferty fronted, and 2 more for their signature song. . . Stuck in the Middle with You. Stealers Wheel Am I crazy or does his vocals sound a bit like Paul's?
  22. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Nov 20, 2005 -> 11:40 PM) Howd this go from a thread about Iraq to one about guns? LOL! Funny you all should mention this as Im off tomorrow and was planning to take my glock to the range and exercise my second amendment rights. WOO HOO! The difference is, *you* are part of a well regulated militia. I'm not. And last I checked, Glock was not American made, you shooting some Nazi iron? oops I forgot, they have a plant stateside . . .

Another song that I just heard again for the first time in a long time is Baker Street by Gerry Rafferty, I really like that song.

QUOTE(Middle Buffalo @ Nov 20, 2005 -> 10:30 PM) Well, some of those aren't exactly the songs you'll typically hear on the radio from these artists. I will say, though, that I probably know some of these songs and don't recognize the song title. (Think "Teenage Wasteland" vs. "Baba O'Reilly"). Again, my point was NOT to criticize KG's post. I'm a top 40 kind of guy, anyway, so my list of favorite songs would be pretty embarrassing. Full of early '80s British synth-pop like ABC. They play a re-mix of "In the Air Tonight" by Genesis here in Phoenix that is truly awful, though. I think we all wind up with favorites on albums (cd) from artist precisely because they aren't pounded to death by radio. I always liked Refuge by Tom Petty, but Ethridge's version really kicks ass.
