    Coffee Talk

QUOTE (G&T @ Feb 6, 2011 -> 08:29 AM) Do you use a certain grinder for the French press? Nothing special, a $20 Target buy IIRC
  2. Current record 2-2-1. They finally seem to have a feel for getting the ball in the goal. My backs are fricking awesome to watch.
  3. Very happy, I finally found a replacement for my old backpacking boots and for much less than I expected to pay.
  4. People who think their first amendment right to free speech means they can say whatever they like on a message board.

    Coffee Talk

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Feb 4, 2011 -> 10:23 AM) I just think it tastes too watery, no matter the brand. I love coffee, and I feel like that method of brewing is not pure. I switched from a French press which I liked to the Keurig. The water hitting the beans under pressure seems to pop more flavor. Mine has three water level settings, I can tell the difference between the smallest and largest brew size.

    Coffee Talk

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Feb 4, 2011 -> 09:49 AM) I'll have an iced coffee once in a while when I get a taste for it (talking 5 or 6 times a year), but I load it up with tons of sugar and cream. I never understood the fascination with coffee. I don't like the taste, it doesn't wake me up, it makes your breath smell just awful, and it gives you the runs. Exactly, what's not to like? Pipes thawed, no signs of leaks. Happier now.
  7. Couple Egypt concerns Relations with Israel. We pump about 1.2B worth of military aid to Egypt each year, I believe as part of the Camp David accords in 1978. If a government steps in that is anti-Israel, we may end up fighting all those US paid and made weapons. Suez Canal. Nothing like controlling the flow of a lot of the world's oil.

    Working, Loafing?

QUOTE (ChrisLikesBaseball @ Feb 4, 2011 -> 09:48 AM) I doubt it. And unless they change the structure of my bonus, I'll have to make the same amount of revenue in one fewer day this period. It's actually a blessing in disguise though, since my paid time off is maxed out and there's no extra off days in sight for me, this will atleast allow me to earn another day for the future over the next couple of weeks. Yeah, it never seems to work that way.

    Coffee Talk

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Feb 4, 2011 -> 09:44 AM) Eh, not a fan of the coffee. The hot chocolate rocks, though. I am surprised, with all the different varieties it seems like you'd find a few you like.

    Working, Loafing?

QUOTE (ChrisLikesBaseball @ Feb 4, 2011 -> 09:34 AM) My store stayed closed on Wednesday but I didn't get the OK to stay closed until about 11:00am. Before that, I was obligated to keep in touch with my employees to see if anyone could access the store to open. I was then asked to either take on an extra day later this week (not much of the week to do so) or use a day of paid vacation to "help offset the labor costs and revenue losses." I could have put up a stink, but I just filled out the Paid Time Off form and went about my day. Hopefully they remember the sacrifice and later offer an extra day off to "help offset the increased profits and revenue gains" during a busy time.

    Coffee Talk

We woke up to frozen water pipes. I made that one last flush count. Thankfully I have a Kuerig coffee maker with enough water for four or five mugs.
  15. QUOTE (YASNY @ Feb 4, 2011 -> 01:39 AM) The man made up his mind what he was willing to do, and what he wasn't willing to do. I can respect that. ^^ that^^ Some people would continue to work at their jobs for less than half what they use to make, most would not.

    Snowmageddon 2011

They canceled classes for tomorrow, we are losing our May weather day. The boy's basketball (INDOOR) game was canceled for Saturday, the girl's (OUTDOOR) soccer game is still on. WTF?
  17. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Feb 3, 2011 -> 09:00 AM) There are good portions of this law, and those SHOULD remain law, and I hope through all of this they DO remain law. But as for a blanket statement like, "I like the law", all I can say is: no, you don't...you like the few portions of the law everyone likes...and you don't understand anything else about it (just like everyone else), so stop pretending you "like it all". Aside from the key points the law covers, which happen to be the only bullet points of this law anyone ever talks about, I guarantee now, the rest of it's a bunch of garbage designed to siphon money from the system. Insurance reform (and take this from a person working in health insurance) was necessary. But in the end, this bill fails on almost all other fronts...it does nothing to lower the cost of care/drugs/etc (despite people claiming it does, just knock it off, because it doesn't)...so it fails on almost all necessary fronts. You say the bill fails on all fronts, is that based on the portions you understand, the portions you don't understand, or the portions that affect your employer?
  18. In winter there are hundreds of Cub fans down here. They all leave as soon as the weather in Iowa, Kansas, etc gets warmer. We are so far away from either Texas markets that the Astros and Ranger stuff is kind of split without much fierce rivalries. The only time I had to tone down my Sox love was during the world series, Astros fans seem to come out of the woodwork.

    Snowmageddon 2011

QUOTE (kapkomet @ Feb 2, 2011 -> 08:11 PM) Yeeeup. They lost some plants on the grid up here and they can't keep up with the demand because of it, so rather then have the generators burn up due to too much pull, they are doing the rolling blackouts. It's terrible on a CNC shop (saw someone else mention that)... And Balta, the hotels (and JerryWorld ™ for that matter) that the teams are staying at for the Pooper Jerry Bowl are exempted from the blackouts. Ain't that nice of them? Stupid f***ers. Who takes care of the wires and poles up that way? We have AEP (formerly CP&L).
  20. I am liking the states studying the 10th Amendment and attempting to nullify the law. I like the law, I like even more a legal challenge like this.
  21. Quick chance to create some lessons. It seems ou schedule is basically all over the map the next two days. I'm going to do a couple reviews and regain traction on Tuesday.

Something ironic about Black History Month starting with a whiteout.

    Snowmageddon 2011

QUOTE (iamshack @ Feb 2, 2011 -> 01:33 PM) I'm hearing from my co-workers that there are rolling blackouts in Texas today...the utilities are having all kinds of difficulties...anyone hear from Kap or Tex today? They hit my gf's school. She taught a lesson in the dark. We are starting an hour later tomorrow and two hours later on Friday. It must not be football season because all athletics have been canceled until the weekend. My soccer game was moved from 9am to noon. What was weird was I heard an interview with a spokesperson from our local electric provider and it was a friend of mine from Scouts. Funny to hear him "working". They believe the rolling blackouts will continue for the next couple days.
  24. Oh boy, students and buses will arrive an hour later than normal tomorrow. Staff will be here at the same time. They also cancelled all athletics. Obviously it ain't football season
