QUOTE (Y2HH @ Feb 11, 2011 -> 09:09 PM) And this poll would be a bit more fair if it were balanced...as it is, it's not. If the meat eaters have to hunt, kill and clean their animals, the vegans should have to grow their own crops, too. Let's see who lives longer in that "fair" world. This is how it would work... I'd hunt and kill animals, eat them, have farmers like BigSqwert pay me in vegetables to keep rabbits and other such animals from eating up his crops...which I'd also eat... And if I ran out of food during the winter, I'd bring my gun and keen hunting skills to Sqwerts house and see if we could work out a deal...if he gives me some crops, he can live. My hunch is violence against animals would lead to violence against humans. Interesting you would post this.

RIP and thank you.

I actually enjoyed reading this threat and while his screen name could be reduced to BS, his posts have been far from it. I have been eating less meat, but mostly because as I have been reducing my daily calories, I find better choices for my calorie spending.

Which one would have the lower crime rate?

universal expression of tgif

Looking at extremes, a no kill vegan world, or a everyone is a hunter world?
-
And btw, if I had to pick an extreme, a world where everyone needed to hunt animals for their meals or a world where no one killed a living animal or fish, I'd take the no kill world. See poll in the 'buster . . .

We never want someone to be preachy about something we disagree with. Doesn't matter who we are, who really wants to hear someone preaching about something we disagree with? The challenge in our society, with our freedoms, is to accept that we will hear things we disagree with, often times in a preachy manner, and have to live with it. And if you really care about someone, and have a deeply held believe they were harming themselves, I would say you have a moral responsibility to be preachy, even if they did not want to hear it. And anyone who disagrees there is no need to post that you disagree and get all preachy

QUOTE (Controlled Chaos @ Feb 10, 2011 -> 02:03 PM) I know little to nothing about it, but I thought you still had to pay taxes even if you live abroad? It depends. The most common situation here on the border is you pay taxes to the host country (Mexico) and that reduces any US taxes by the same amount. That is for people living in the US and working in Mexico. I split time between both and a few years paid in both countries. It becomes almost like working in two states. If you live in Wisconsin and work in Illinois, you pay income tax where you work. Which really makes sense, imagine if foreign workers in the US sent their payroll taxes to their home country and not the US.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 10, 2011 -> 01:56 PM) Really, over the years, I certainly haven't gotten the impression that you have done that. First of all, if this is zero tolerance for the GOP, I'd hate to see their version of tolerance. Do you mean zero tolerance for extra-marital affairs if no money exchanges hands? (note, this is not an effort to defend any Democrat) Secondly, I believe we've heard over and over from you that it ought to be up to the voters to decide whether a person who has done non-illegal things like marital infidelity should be disqualified, not whether or not it draws national attention. Am I incorrect in that regard? Fair comments. The voters only have a choice from those people willing to serve, so I don't see any hypocrisy in my views if the guy choses to resign. I believe I have championed moral and ethical behavior from our leaders. I can't think of a situation, but I would appreciate knowing if you can remember one. I always enjoy examining the spec in my eye. And I am waiting for the other shoe(s) to fall. If he did chose to stay and not resign I could easily find myself defending that choice.

Added another win tonight. Sixth straight shut out. I changed my formation to a 3-3-4, adding another striker. My defense is just amazing.

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Feb 10, 2011 -> 01:05 PM) Welcome them back? No. Expect them back? Absolutely. I agree, but it would seem weird getting back a citizen who may have left the country decades earlier and hasn't paid taxes all that time. My brother in law has been living in England and other countries for over 20 years. If England sent him here for a lifetime of care, it would seem weird, but he maintains his US citizenship and I guess that makes him US responsibility.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Feb 10, 2011 -> 01:37 PM) Seeing that most animals that are consumed are cows, pigs and chickens, they would just stop breading them as they currently do. It's not like we find those animals out in the wild. Interesting theoretical question. Wouldn't the reprecussion really depend on timing? If it was a gradual stopping, the population could be reduced easily. But imagine for a moment that we suddenly stopped eating meat. What would we do with all those pigs, cows, chickens, pigs, etc? Turn them loose somewhere? We could have free range cows back on the prarie.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Feb 10, 2011 -> 01:19 PM) You honestly think there are enough places like that to sustain the 6 billion people on Earth? It's not remotely possible to feed people meat and dairy from farms like the one you described. I'd guess those specific animal products account for less than 1% of all animal products produced for consumption. I assume you mean there is not enough land mass to sustain that many head of cattle, roaming free?

OK, that was funny Balta My parents were exactly who AOL was bilking every month. They were convonced they needed AOL's customer service even though they were paying for broadband service from Comcast. That is until I had them call AOL and ask about their internet connection.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Feb 10, 2011 -> 01:02 PM) Rehabilitated to never be caught doing a crime again that takes away his paper. Anyone that can torture dogs like that has something inside of them that will never be fixed no matter how much time he spends in jail. I am very confident that the guy really doesnt feel bad for the dogs, but feels really bad that he committed a crime and was caught. I'm not quite as pesimisstic as you, but it is easier to always think the worse. And I have more respect for meat eaters who have killed their own meat than meat eaters who are anti-hunting.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 10, 2011 -> 11:29 AM) Good points on the other names. I'll use the "8:30 a.m." excuse on that one. That said, Tex, where do you get the idea that somehow this puts the Republicans on a pedestal above the Dems? That said, Balta, where do you get the idea that somehow I said this puts the Republicans on a pedestal above the Dems? I mearly stated that this is the kind of behavior that I applaud from politicians and hope both sides do this. One article talked about a zero tolerance from the GOP, I hope they continue and I hope the Dems follow along.

I appreciate the argument that as a paid member of the White Sox he should be expected to voluntarily not speak out on any controversial issues. His behavior does reflect on some level on the team. It is easy to see that when a person takes a controversial stance like saying there are nothing but gays in New York or blacks do not have the capabilities to be managers. I also believe it is a shame when we expect people to not speak out against something because of potential reprecussions. I'm not certain who should speak out against dog fighting and the people that do it? Dogs maybe? Who is qualified? I believe in the US Constitution and every person's right to free speak. The fact that when some people speak more people listen shouldn't be a reason for them to be quiet. Their rights are the same as our rights.

http://www.themonitor.com/news/intoxicatio...ng-assault.html I really wish more people would understand what a bike lane is. It does not double as a turning lane. The cyclist is a teacher in a district up the river from here.

Funny, I would go with something funny, but I haven't thought it out yet

Famous last words are kind of interesting, but I'm guessing most are made up. What would yours be?

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Feb 10, 2011 -> 08:42 AM) No one ever said we needed to hear Mark Buehrle's political and ethical views. This is why. Keep to yourself #56 and keep on doing what you are doing. So who should comment on items like this or wars, poverty, politics, good restaurants, etc?
-
QUOTE (Ron @ Feb 9, 2011 -> 08:11 PM) Always thought Mark was a classy guy. This comment was far from that. Should've just kept it to himself. Vick paid his debt to society, regardless of what you think of the crime. Does Mark get as mad about a Ray Lewis or a Donte Stallworth, athletes who killed people? I'd bet not. Really? Why do you say that?
