Which World Would You Want to Live In?
QUOTE (Y2HH @ Feb 14, 2011 -> 07:49 AM) Huh? Do you really need it explained to you? Ok...now listen carefully, Billy...you may actually learn something you can apply to a REAL world, not a made up fantasy land! While what you say might hold true for a temporary amount of time in this mythical world you've built...after a few years, it would come to a grinding halt. While the farmed for meat animals of the day would fall off in population (cows/chickens/pigs), every other animal under the sun would grow exponentially. You see, Billy, since #1 on the food chain (humans) stopped hunting them, they'd grow in number at a rate that would make your little head spin. Deer would absolutely EXPLODE in population, and with nobody to cull the herd, they'd eat your precious crops...the only reason why deer aren't eating those crops now is because they'll get shot for trying. Same applies to rabbits, and just about any other small animal. It wouldn't take long for wolves to realize they aren't getting shot for roaming around, either. Now, if you allowed us to kill animals attempting to eat in this world you've created, but we aren't eating them, then we create a new problem since we would have dead animal carcasses everywhere...and I'm not sure that was the solution you were attempting to find here... You see, Billy, it's part of the natural cycle...and ignoring it doesn't make it go away. This perfect world you are all contemplating CANNOT exist. Someone HAS to hunt and kill these things. It's a top down thing. As I said previously, nature INTENDED it. Keep in mind, the farm animals we keep alive now for meat harvesting are in a controlled population. Without us, and hunters, there would be nothing to control such populations...and most of these animals wouldn't just disappear, "just cuz you want them too in your perfect little vegan world". How many people here have eaten rabbit or deer in the past five years? Armadillo? Wolves? Bear? Squirrel? Waiting for their numbers to EXPLODE!

Anybody in Austin?
QUOTE (dasox24 @ Feb 13, 2011 -> 08:25 PM) Not in Austin, but I'd love to get a job there after I graduate. It's one of the cities I'm focusing on to start my job search, though I don't have any real connections there. I just think it would be awesome to live in Austin. Me too. My gf has family in the San Antonio suburbs, I love Austin and Hill Country.

Anybody in Austin?
QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Feb 13, 2011 -> 03:19 PM) Ok, fine, read it the other way. If you are going out to a local place to watch games w/ people, then why bother paying to have it at your house if you are going to watch it elsewhere? I'm suggesting not getting mlb.tv package, not suggesting he shouldn't go out to local places and watch. It seems rather plausible someone would want to watch most of the games at home, but catch a few at a local bar with some Sox fans. When I was living in Chicago, I'd see some games at the park, some games at a bar, and some games at home. I didn't think that was weird.

QUOTE (Brian @ Feb 10, 2011 -> 06:41 PM) Last Thursday, I went to the gas station to fill up and got a cheap car wash just to get the salt off. Car Wash was an addition $5. After filling up, I drove around to the wash and it was closed down temporarily. No biggie, my recipt said I had a week to use it. So every day I drove by it and it was still blocked off. Today was my last chance to use it so when I went it was still blocked off. I took my receipt inside and was calm and just asked if I could put the $5 towards gas or some soda or whatever and I was told I could not do that. I explained that I bought the wash a week ago and it expires today and the guy said I purchased the car wash at my own risk and there was nothing I could do. I even said there was no sign saying that but he didn't budge. I didn't make a big deal out of it, it is only $5 but still. WTF You are way more patient than I.

Who is the best player on the Sox right now?
Any of those would be a great pick. I leaned towards Konerko, adding in some intangibles like leadership. I wish I could have justified Buerhle somehow, but I just couldn't build a strong enough case besides knowing you can count on him for 30+ starts and 13+ wins. Will Konerko have the best season of any Sox player? I really do not think so, there are 4 or 5 guys that easily could surpass him. But those same guys could also be the worse of the bunch, and I just do not see Konerko being the worse of the bunch. So that was kind of the edge I gave him, and the comment from Rock I think it was about being the only legit MVP candidate last season.

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Feb 13, 2011 -> 04:04 AM) If you got the mlb.tv package, then why do you want to go to a place that already has it to watch the games? Some people enjoy watching the game with a couple other fans, even if they don't know them too well.

almost not enough to play. Exactly 11. No subs. And two of the girls are usually good for 2 or 3 minutes per half because I have to play them. Instead they were cones for the other team to go around.

You don't believe that violence begets more violence?

You must have seen us play today!

Well it doesn't end so soon for me. Soccer tournament today. We won in the first round so we have at least two games today. Then a Boy Scout Council dinner and really looking forward to seeing Kap at some point.

Which World Would You Want to Live In?
QUOTE (Y2HH @ Feb 11, 2011 -> 09:09 PM) And this poll would be a bit more fair if it were balanced...as it is, it's not. If the meat eaters have to hunt, kill and clean their animals, the vegans should have to grow their own crops, too. Let's see who lives longer in that "fair" world. This is how it would work... I'd hunt and kill animals, eat them, have farmers like BigSqwert pay me in vegetables to keep rabbits and other such animals from eating up his crops...which I'd also eat... And if I ran out of food during the winter, I'd bring my gun and keen hunting skills to Sqwerts house and see if we could work out a deal...if he gives me some crops, he can live. My hunch is violence against animals would lead to violence against humans. Interesting you would post this.

Buehrle vs. Vick
I actually enjoyed reading this threat and while his screen name could be reduced to BS, his posts have been far from it. I have been eating less meat, but mostly because as I have been reducing my daily calories, I find better choices for my calorie spending.

Which World Would You Want to Live In?
Looking at extremes, a no kill vegan world, or a everyone is a hunter world?
-
Buehrle vs. Vick
And btw, if I had to pick an extreme, a world where everyone needed to hunt animals for their meals or a world where no one killed a living animal or fish, I'd take the no kill world. See poll in the 'buster . . .

Buehrle vs. Vick
We never want someone to be preachy about something we disagree with. Doesn't matter who we are, who really wants to hear someone preaching about something we disagree with? The challenge in our society, with our freedoms, is to accept that we will hear things we disagree with, often times in a preachy manner, and have to live with it. And if you really care about someone, and have a deeply held believe they were harming themselves, I would say you have a moral responsibility to be preachy, even if they did not want to hear it. And anyone who disagrees there is no need to post that you disagree and get all preachy

QUOTE (Controlled Chaos @ Feb 10, 2011 -> 02:03 PM) I know little to nothing about it, but I thought you still had to pay taxes even if you live abroad? It depends. The most common situation here on the border is you pay taxes to the host country (Mexico) and that reduces any US taxes by the same amount. That is for people living in the US and working in Mexico. I split time between both and a few years paid in both countries. It becomes almost like working in two states. If you live in Wisconsin and work in Illinois, you pay income tax where you work. Which really makes sense, imagine if foreign workers in the US sent their payroll taxes to their home country and not the US.- Congressman Christopher Lee (R-NY) Resigns
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 10, 2011 -> 01:56 PM) Really, over the years, I certainly haven't gotten the impression that you have done that. First of all, if this is zero tolerance for the GOP, I'd hate to see their version of tolerance. Do you mean zero tolerance for extra-marital affairs if no money exchanges hands? (note, this is not an effort to defend any Democrat) Secondly, I believe we've heard over and over from you that it ought to be up to the voters to decide whether a person who has done non-illegal things like marital infidelity should be disqualified, not whether or not it draws national attention. Am I incorrect in that regard? Fair comments. The voters only have a choice from those people willing to serve, so I don't see any hypocrisy in my views if the guy choses to resign. I believe I have championed moral and ethical behavior from our leaders. I can't think of a situation, but I would appreciate knowing if you can remember one. I always enjoy examining the spec in my eye. And I am waiting for the other shoe(s) to fall. If he did chose to stay and not resign I could easily find myself defending that choice. - Undocumented worker who became quadriplegic is moved to Mexico against
