  1. It is all in how it is worded. Judging the first 17 games is fair if properly framed and phrased, for example After a couple weeks as a White Sox player, Rios has done the imaginable - he has made Brian Anderson look good. Predicting the future by just looking at these 17 games, and not the totality of his career, is silly, unfair, and wrong. His early results for the Sox has him fitting right in with the slumping bats. To be fair, predictions on how well he will play in a Sox uniform should be reserved until sometime in late May.
  2. Sucks to realize I am not in grad school as planned
  3. Happy Birthday Y'All!!
  4. Hurry then and make you last post before the thread dies . . . and I was going to say Dodge Dart as the coolest
  5. QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Sep 3, 2009 -> 12:26 PM) Fine...then there is no middle ground like Russ and Tex have been saying. I don't care if the Seminole tribe is "ok" with it. I'm sure there are other tribes that find it disrespectful...so, goodbye. And to any other Native American mascot...goodbye. I'm not sure how old you are...you may have been at U of I when I was there in the early 90's, but the problem mostly had to do with listening. As in, no one was doing it. Either side. The U of I was spinning it based on the fact that the outfit was traditional Sioux and the dance was passed down (also Sioux, I believe). The opposition was saying, it's disrespectful, end of story and I don't care what you have to say about it. In the end, after a few more years, it won't matter anymore. What's done is done. What's sad is vocal minority won with no discussion other than, "OK, we just need to end this now." I really do not remember the debate, blow for blow, but it seems like it was a small minority om both sides and the vast majority that just didn't care one way or another. And in this country when we can either angry/offend by doing something or anger/offend by not doing something, we tend to take the don't do it approach. But I do agree, it was a small minority that actually cared, either way.
  6. Buick, it's the only f***ing B car I could think of. Now when we get to D, I have a better one
  7. Every team has problems. As a pundit, unless you want to offer the same picks as everyone else, you have to look at the teams that are ranked 4-8 and find the sleeper and build a case. Chicago is a mojor city and sucking up to those fans is far better than say Minny. Good career choice.
  8. Zero coolness factor ^^^

  11. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 2, 2009 -> 08:17 PM) Ah yes, governmental regulatory oversight at its best. Put the Wolves in charge of guarding the lambs. And free enterprise at its best. Let Madoff operate without oversight. Ah, the eternal struggle for a balance that protects the public.

  15. I wish someone made an ironing board for people taller than 5'6". They are all too short and not long enough for my pants.
  16. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Sep 2, 2009 -> 02:03 PM) ah how I love hypocrisy: Not a fair comparison, we ain't getting that same level of care, and neither are the rank and file servicemen and vets.

  19. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Sep 2, 2009 -> 11:53 AM) Tex, so are you upset that more people aren't calling out the Indian programmers and doctors here than they are the MExican meat plant workers? I would say that you are not talking to the right people then, as most of my college friends all went into programming and/or IT and half are out of work, and blaming outsourcing or cheaper foreign talent. And again, you have 2 different arguements here, beacuse the people here on the H1B are here LEGALLY, while the 'undocumented' workers in various businesses are not. What I am pointing out is we use the same immigration system to bring in temporary farm/manual labor and professionals. The system is far too expensive for an employee earning $12,000 per year. Plus, we could also adopt a smaller benefit package for those individuals. And if I was unemployed, I'd be more upset about someone from overseas working a job I want, than someone working a job I do not want nor would sustain my family.
