The government sucks. How dare we think we could do something better than Canada!? Next you will say we should stop some military action because it didn't work for the French. It takes a few guys to throw someone out. But the catcher has to have a quick release and an accurate throw. That can make up for a lot, but not all, of the pitcher's sins.

There is also an unwritten expectation that teams play hard until the end. Of course as teams are mathematically eliminated they start to cruise and play more of the younger guys, but to give up when in theory you still have a chance is for losers.
