  1. At his above average skill level, he was one of the best big game pitchers I've seen.
  2. QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ Jul 7, 2009 -> 07:13 PM) What a shocker that would be... us overvaluing our spects... say it isn't so. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 7, 2009 -> 07:41 PM) This is why you don't fall in love with prospects. The advantage of coming in late. I don't have to type much.
  3. Happy Birthday!! Happy Birthday!!
  4. QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Jul 7, 2009 -> 11:37 AM) Jim Henson hit me pretty hard. The Muppets were such a huge and important part of my upbringing. And sorry Tex, PSFJ and Critic, I shed a tear. I never met Jim Henson but he was in my house everyday for many years teaching me and making me laugh. And still does to this day. I certainly understand that. And perhaps I will feel that connection to someone I never met. While not a celebrity, I know that a number of posters here would hit me very hard, even though I never "met" them. Hell, I've been crushed when someone here, who I really like and admired, felt I didn't like them. Perhaps silly schoolyard stuff, but that bothered me for weeks. I'm trying to think of a celeb that could bring that emotion. It would have to be someone who was known for philanthropic works in addition to what made them famous. Probably the closest I came was Paul Simon (D)
  5. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Jul 6, 2009 -> 09:53 PM) There is absolutely no way that we do not have MASSIVE wait times. There's too much of a shortage CURRENTLY - let alone when we "flood the system" (right) with all these new people (which they admit ALREADY that they can't get insured until past 2012 anyway!!!!). So why are they doing this again? To get uninsured people on the insurance plans? Riiiiiiiiiiight. Oh, to control costs? Yea, because they've done SO well on Medicare. The only way they get costs in line to Medicare (again, they admit this) is to cut the s*** out of the services offered. But it doesn't matter, they're all old and going to die anyway, so f*** 'em, who needs 'em? The way seems to me to take people out of the ERs for non emergency procedures. I keep reading, at least here where a large percentage of the population is uninsured, wait times in ERs can reach 10 hours or more. How can it not be an advantage to get them out of the ERs and into lower cost, and more appropriate for their ailment, clinics?
  6. QUOTE (The Critic @ Jul 7, 2009 -> 06:18 AM) I can't imagine getting that depressed over a celebrity death. I don't know any celebrities personally, so my feeling is never more than a general sadness for their families. What he said. And in a companion thought, never cry over something that can't cry for you.
  7. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 6, 2009 -> 07:30 PM) Scale works when you have excess capacity. We in the United States are OVER capacity. I have yet to hear where we are getting all of these new facilities, doctors, nurses, and medications from for the 100 million, or whatever the number is this week, people that aren't covered. That seems like a great point. But I wonder if those uninsured are simply using the ER instead of a less costly clinic. Perhaps the system will see only a slight increase in patients, but a huge drop in uncollected treatments.
  8. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jul 6, 2009 -> 10:13 AM) You guys are really over estimating the support she has. I would be shocked if she contends for the GOP nod in 2012. Just trying to help the GOP like they helped the Dems in supporting Hillary Palin 2012

I could not find anything before 2005.
  10. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 6, 2009 -> 06:20 AM) I'd try like hell to let as few people know I'm rich as possible. I have a lot of dumbass friends and a massive family. I'd also like to add, I would throw a party for Lostfan and all of his facebook friends.
  11. QUOTE (wilmot825 @ Jul 5, 2009 -> 10:41 PM) Where's the Sportscenter coverage of that??? Manny got coverage everytime he took a piss and wiped his ass. Sry I had to vent that. Good for Carlos. I know it is a circular thing, but Manny is much better known, and that gets viewers. He is a loud, outgoing personality. If your paycheck depended on viewers, who would you put on Sportscenter?
  12. I hope he is helping sell a lot of tickets.
  13. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Jul 6, 2009 -> 12:43 AM) Imagine this - note the topic... We should have known then what kind of poster we had on our hands. Oh how enlightening it was... http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?s=...t&p=1271809 find mine, ooh find mine Mr. Wizard. On second thought, I think I'd rather you didn't
  14. QUOTE (dbaho @ Jul 6, 2009 -> 05:30 AM) With the other $15M, I'd buy houses in London, Seattle, Phoenix, San Diego, Chicago and Manhattan. Are you buying the homes as investments? At some point I think I would rather rent short term in a few places.
  15. I will attend a few games at my local University.
  16. Set up trust funds for my kids. Set up my parents and a few other relatives and friends for the rest of their lives. Start a foundation. Buy 35 to 40 foot sailboat and spend a couple years on a circumnavigation with a close friend of mine. Settle down to read a lot of books.
  17. QUOTE (Drew @ Jul 6, 2009 -> 01:52 AM) Doesn't make it right, though. There was also a time when interracial marriages were not recognized. Agreed.
  18. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 6, 2009 -> 04:21 AM) You also said McCain would win. You're becoming the Brent Lillibridge of political prognostication. Just trying to save the GOP
  19. Does BJ's Brewhouse count as a crappy pizza chain? Their deep dish is a very passable pie. No Lou's, but pretty damn good.
  20. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 5, 2009 -> 02:44 PM) MLB All-Star voting is still a joke, and the fans prove again that they have no business having a say in who gets to play. I think the game is for the fans, not the players, and I do not mind letting the fans pick the players. I really think of it as a fan favorites game. Based on that, I also agree that . . . QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jul 5, 2009 -> 02:54 PM) I've always despised fan voting but even more so now that the game actually means something. You can't have it both ways imo, it's freakin stupid.
  21. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 5, 2009 -> 06:43 PM) Yeah, if you're standing and lose consciousness, contrary to popular belief you fall forward, not backward. In the northern hemisphere that is true. In the southern hemisphere, you fall backward.
  22. I think Palin is going to be a strong candidate for the GOP, I don't see anyone really challenging her. Plus, she seems to have rally united the party loyalists behind her.
  23. Dumb on my part, I had added my ex, she is now deleted.
  24. QUOTE (knightni @ Jul 5, 2009 -> 11:34 AM) Ha! Even Tex notices. Lostfan has some awesome hunnies on his facebook. I'm like his token ugly friend.
