Gov. Palin Resigns (Quits)
QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 10, 2009 -> 05:57 PM) What's Durbin done that shows him be unfit for re-election? That's what I'm trying to say. I like him. Hey, who doesn't like Dick? And since Dick's staff helped you out and all, even more reasons to like Dick.

Tex? Just...Tex?
QUOTE (The Critic @ Jul 10, 2009 -> 04:37 PM) I think it's Tex's way of disassociating himself from the White Sox. Traitor. Ouch.

Gov. Palin Resigns (Quits)
QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 10, 2009 -> 04:40 PM) Durbin really isn't that bad... and I've actually called on him directly before, and he's helped me out. Well, his staff, same thing. And that is the factor that most people do not think about. The staffs are everything. And they jump from party to party and state to state.

Gov. Palin Resigns (Quits)
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 10, 2009 -> 04:29 PM) There is a scary thought, and Death is not an option... Roland Burris or Alan Keyes as your Senator... I will say that is one spot where Indiana can LOL at a lot of states. Bayh and Lugar are a very impressive pair. In the names of Douglas, Simon, and Dirksen, what has happened to the Illinois Senators?

Senator Burris will not run for re-election.
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 10, 2009 -> 03:36 PM) Well that is nice at least... I'd be really pissed if I thought he qualified. 5 years seems OK, based on the level of benefit. I never thought about it until now, but how would term limits and retirement work out? That just might be one area I like term limits.

The Military
QUOTE (hogan873 @ Jul 10, 2009 -> 03:24 PM) There may be a Veteran's Preference" when it comes to federal jobs, but I don't think it gives you much of an advantage. I thought some jobs were only available to veterans? I've seen signs at the post office where they were only accepting applications from vets.

The Ex Officio Nose Hair Thead
QUOTE (knightni @ Jul 10, 2009 -> 01:53 PM) Tweezers on nose hairs. It only hurts for a few seconds. maybe if I was drunk enough, that crosses my eyes and causes them to water. I'd be screaming like a middle school girl.

Senator Burris will not run for re-election.
QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Jul 10, 2009 -> 02:46 PM) Now he just gets another government pension check for a job he didnt deserve. Added to the Illinois pension checks he gets, I don't think he will be eating Ramen noodles anytime soon, regadless of his campaign debt. Ah no he won't. Not enough time served.

The Ex Officio Nose Hair Thead
I knew I was getting old when I stopped wanting stuff that would grow hair on my chest, instead I was interested in stuff that would quit making it grow everywhere else.

Senator Ensign (R-NV) admits affair
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 10, 2009 -> 12:12 PM) If you're up for reading it, there's some more bizarre details coming out about this story and how the wife of the guy in the affair approached a Christian politician group that Ensign was a member of and people from that group literally walked with him to the mailbox to make sure he was actually breaking off the affair, etc. Can we call him less intelligent than Dan Quayle or Sarah Palin?

Steve McNair shot to death
QUOTE (The Critic @ Jul 10, 2009 -> 11:19 AM) As always, I turn to Chris Rock [paraphrasing because my feeble mind can't recall exact quotes]: "If you give up half of 30 million.....you're gonna be all right. If you give up half of 30 THOUSAND.....you might just have to kill somebody!!! I ain't movin' back in with my Momma cuz YOU AIN'T IN LOVE!!!!" Exaggerated for the sake of laughs, of course, but my point is, it's probably easier to absorb a divorce when you have money to spare. However, I'm not going to assume he told this girl he was leaving his wife. It could have been something she dreamed up in her obviously unstable mind. Exactly. Plus if you have $15 mil in the bank, you will be back "in love" tonight. If you have an extra $20 bucks to blow this week on a date, well, the $20 is all that will get blown.

Best Defenders In the Past 20 Years
QUOTE (knightni @ Jul 10, 2009 -> 11:00 AM) I also considered Lance Johnson, Mike Cameron and Dave Gallagher in LF. If you go back 30 years, I would have included Baines in RF. Pre injury Baines was pretty damn sweet.

Steve McNair shot to death
QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jul 10, 2009 -> 10:58 AM) I disagree with this. But its just my opinion based on my experience with divorce. Each person reacts to a stressful situation differently, I dont know why McNair did what he did, but as I said before Im not one to be morally righteous. Settlement A. I get to keep the house in New York, you get Miami. I'll keep my Escalade and Porche, you keep your jewelery. Settlement B. We sell the house and move into apartments, you take the Chevy and the payments, I'll take the 10 year old paid off Ford. Your opinion is someone in situation A would stay, but B would leave?

Gov. Palin Resigns (Quits)
QUOTE (kapkomet @ Jul 10, 2009 -> 10:40 AM) Dan Quayle was VERY intelligent, potato, potatoe aside. His casting as "stupid" was done very well by the media. Don't forget, Reagan was "stupid" too. All "conservatives" are "stupid" as defined by the MSM, whether they are or not. Liberals, on the other hand, are the most intelligent people on earth. I have never understood the paradigm as to why people who want less of everything from our government are considered "stupid". Yet, those who want to give up their own freedoms to do what they want are considered the most intelligent. It seems to me that the opposite would be true - those of you who want everything to be done by our government are honestly drones. You don't want to think for yourself, you want the thinking to be done for you. That's "stupid". Or why people who work for the government are stupid, lazy, inefficient, etc. but private sector employees are innovative, hard working, effective, etc.

Steve McNair shot to death
QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jul 10, 2009 -> 10:24 AM) Its a lot easier to say: "Man up and get a divorce" When your not worth millions. I dont know his life or what he was going through, he seemed like a good guy, Im not about to get morally righteous on him. Actually it is a lot easier when you will be left with millions than with debt and only one income. It is also easier for the woman to leave when she knows she will have considerable assets after she leaves. A middle class woman, staying at home rising the kids, living in a heavily mortgaged home, family with credit card bills, a couple car payments, kids in a bunch of activities that cost money, that's when a divorce is difficult.

Brian Anderson's last stand?
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 9, 2009 -> 11:30 AM) I see no point in acquiring a 5th OF to put up a .680 OPS. We can get those for near-nothing from our own system. So true. Everyone would like to have a starter caliber bench player, but it just doesn't happen anymore. When there were 24 teams, guys like BA had a nice minor league career, possible a short stint or two. Now he received an extended chance. I'm just never much of a fan of giving anything up to strengthen the bench. It seems the delta is never that big, or the impact anything more than a tweak.

Gov. Palin Resigns (Quits)
QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ Jul 10, 2009 -> 10:11 AM) Granted, I've never studied their writings, but just like advance speeches, those are heavily edited and polished (if not outrightly written) by helpers, and thus, to me, should be somewhat discounted. All good points. I also believe off the cuff remarks are not a true gauge of intelligence. So pretty much we would have to discount every factor that is being used to create that image of intelligence or buffoonery*. *just for FlaSoxxJim
