All this talk about pie has me thinking about one of the best tv series of all time
  2. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 2, 2009 -> 10:35 PM) Link to AP Gallery Crap. My heart was pounding just viewing the pictures.

I prefer a cobbler, from a dutch oven. Peach is a favorite. I also have made a dutch oven apple pie that is really quick and easy camp food. Cut an apple into wedges, about six from a good size apple. Wrap dough around them like a pig in a blanket. Dip that in melted butter, dump a couple cups of sugar, lots of cinnamon and a can of sprite. Cook over medium coals for an hour.
  4. I was averaging 25-30 a year for quite a while. Choosing to go to the "bad games". Those midweek snooze fests against terrible teams. I would try to predict the smallest crowd of the season and be at that game. I also had Bulls season tix at the old stadium and for a season or two before I moved.
  5. QUOTE (dasox24 @ Jul 2, 2009 -> 05:28 PM) That makes me think of an episode from "The Office" where Michael puts together a pickup game of basketball and automatically assumes the one black guy is good at basketball (when in fact, he's probably the worst one there). "Stanley, of course..."
  6. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jul 2, 2009 -> 10:24 AM) As much as I like to hate everything Hawk says, I believe he was spot on yesterday. He was talking about this poll and saying that it says a lot about the players today, basically how they're p*****s and care more about personal stats than winning. EDIT: Censored myself before someone else has to do it. I think the players believe they are professionals and do not need much in the way of motivation or coaching. I think it also reflects how baseball is such a business today. And just like most other people in the work force, they would rather not work for someone who is erratic and demeaning. I have worked independently for so long, and pretty much a self starter, I do not need someone yelling at me to do a better job, swearing at me, or any of that stuff. Perhaps others do. I can work hard on my own. I can also see how some players would respond better to different circumstances. Some need quiet, confidence inspiring leadership and some need a kick in the ass.
  7. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 2, 2009 -> 07:26 AM) lol, probably 5x worse if you're black. BTW, do you play basketball?
  8. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jul 2, 2009 -> 01:09 AM) It may not be an entirely stupid question, but since I'm 6'6, I ALWAYS get the "Do you play basketball?" question. Man that aggravates me. A buddy of mine, who is closer to 6' 8", would always answer, no, I'm a jockey.

QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Jul 2, 2009 -> 04:11 PM) I just found a book called And The Hippos Were Boiled In Their Tanks, which was co-written by Jack Kerouac and William Burroughs in 1945, 10 years before either became very well known and was just published in 2008. Each author is a character in the book and they alternate chapters telling the story from their point of view. I just started it, so I don't know if I like it, but I thought the whole concept and the fact that it sat on a shelf for over sixty years is pretty amazing, considering the success the two men achieved years after it was written. I liked it. I am also reading Desolation Angels by Kerouac. He's one of my favorite authors. Dharma Bums and On The Road are imho two of the greatest books of all time.
  10. QUOTE (stretchstretch @ Jul 2, 2009 -> 01:45 PM) with the strides this team has made in the past weeks, across most positions, and in particular, the Rotation, I'm just not understanding why so many feel making the playoffs is solely dependent upon CQs return??? I know you asked specifically about CQ's return, but to answer in a general manner. A lot of my reasoning was when I tore off the calendar page I saw July not September. It's a long season, with a lot more baseball to play. Hot streaks come and go. I will predict at least two or three more sub .500 stretches as well. I would have preferred a choice that allowed me to say I was 33% confident in winning the division. And that is waaaaay up from a month ago when I figured this was going to be a "when do the Bears start" kind of season.
  11. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 2, 2009 -> 01:30 PM) Cortisone shots rock. Amazing stuff. Hmmm, is that on the list of banned substances for soxtalk softball?
  12. QUOTE (Nunnigan @ Jul 2, 2009 -> 01:32 PM) Getting fed up, I signaled to my brother and mom, who were sitting in the seats across the asile, to bring over a flight attendant. All they did was laugh at what I had to put up with. That's what my family would have done. Actually they would have sent over two more drinks.
  13. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 2, 2009 -> 01:51 PM) Would his creditors have the right to any profits from any book deal? He owes like $170 billion. He's going to need some outside helping getting the book deal together, and research. He's selling investments at $25,000 per unit. Already some of the investors have seen returns as high as 200%.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 2, 2009 -> 11:27 AM) It's always more complicated than that with kids involved. True. Even the simple solutions become complicated. However, SS is dead on correct. Especially for a family whose problems will be played out on the front pages of local newspapers. This global adulterer managed to take what would have been a complicated, state wide scandal and moved it into a more complicated, international scandal, for his family.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 2, 2009 -> 09:42 AM) Then divorce her, don't take the d-bag way out and cheat. Guy says "I think we should see other people" Guy means "I've been seeing this other woman and I'm dumping you"
  16. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jun 10, 2009 -> 02:38 PM) It's good to be the ex-first lady: Where did they find the picture of Gage?
  17. I am less than 50% confident in winning the division and 2% on winning the wild card. So I voted no.
  18. QUOTE (santo=dorf @ Jul 2, 2009 -> 05:37 AM) If you really want to get it to the buster ask him if he feels this way about Michael, why does he continue to support the Catholic Church? I don't think anyone is advocating treating the entire music industry in the same manner as Jackson. That would be the key difference between this and the Church. We also have had school districts, sports leagues, etc. tarnished by pedophiles, but to generalize seems wrong in my opinion.

QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Jul 2, 2009 -> 08:34 AM) On Gage's penis?!? ewwww. Yep, for Gage, that's a quality bump
  20. Having lived through the rotating 5th starter years, I see a spot for him. You need to be 6 deep, if possible, and a couple of those will be veterans. A few years back we kept bringing guys up to pitch 3 innings and give up 10 runs. Man, those were just brutal outings.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 1, 2009 -> 04:28 PM) Endurance will humble you. Anyone who thinks they are actually tough should read what those guys went through. Just finished it. Wow. And with the equipment of the day. Amazing. On to Longhorns by J. Frank Dobie.

of all the threads to get a 6-month bump.
  24. QUOTE (Soxy @ Jul 1, 2009 -> 09:21 AM) Coleman is used to it. He also lost to Jesse "The Body" Ventura. Hey, I just realized, he's your Senator
  25. QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Jun 30, 2009 -> 09:35 PM) Are his posts somehow worse than the dick sucking and ass-raping being discussed in the SLAM thread? Those were addressed also. Most of the time, it isn't the post, it is the reaction to having stuff deleted, moved, edited that steps over the line.
