  1. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jan 9, 2013 -> 10:02 PM) Well, beat wisky and a 2-2 start isnt terrible. That loss to purdue will come back to haunt us Still think 9-9 in the B1G is perfectly fine for this team.
  2. QUOTE (Felix @ Jan 9, 2013 -> 09:54 PM) I'm just pissed I never got a Gopher team like this when I was in school You guys are good, we didn't bring our home game, but you guys are definitely very good.
  3. I'm going to be optimistic and think we come out shooting lights out, get back to our averages and we win a 5 pt game.

QUOTE (Cali @ Jan 9, 2013 -> 07:44 PM) And not that these teams went into rebuild mode, but a few teams that were a non-factor-to-terrible for years in the Rangers, Rays, Reds, and Nationals, now are perennial contenders.... For every team that took years to rebuild and now is enjoying a level of success, there are the teams still stuck in last place. It's all about execution, and the environment the team finds itself in. Flat out, the Sox are not the right team to rebuild and don't have the fanbase to support it.
  5. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 9, 2013 -> 07:32 PM) Just to sum up my day, I'd like to say...f*** you Microsoft.
  6. QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Jan 9, 2013 -> 12:26 PM) It is even more rare for a guy Like Ulis who doesn't have elite athleticism. Just about every player I can think of that has been really good and below 5'10 was an elite athlete. Jerome Randle at Cal is the exception to that rule but he was still a touch over 5'9 without shoes and he was an elite shooter. There's a reason Ulis hasn't been offered yet by any high major yet, there are legitimate concerns about how his game translates. He's been a great player this year, but for every fan saying he's a big tim recruit there's a high major coach not offering him. I'm going to trust the overall assessment from the coaches more than the fans.
  7. QUOTE (He_Gawn @ Jan 9, 2013 -> 07:21 AM) Hah, that's a pipe dream. He wants UK, or itl'll be OSU/UL. He's putting up monster numbers this year, but got ejected again last night. He may have passed up Trey Lyles as the best prospect in the state, as he's averaging close to a triple double (having already put up 6 or 7 this year). I wouldn't put it in pipe dream territory, still a long-shot but quite possible. This is his second time on campus now, and some of the schools like Louisville really don't fit him basketball wise as well. Hopefully Groce can pull out the upset here.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jan 8, 2013 -> 04:02 PM) there's a couple listed here: http://savewright.org/index.php?page=33 His stuff usually goes for 1M+. Considering the sizes of the homes, where they're located (e.g. Oak Park, Hinsdale), and that he's probably the most well-known architect, it's not surprising. One of my coworker's parents' own one of his homes. The Martin house is so much better looking than the Gale house, Rock I'm hoping you were looking at the Martin one

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jan 8, 2013 -> 11:50 AM) Haha...some of the furniture is very interesting, that is for sure...I have liked the furniture as well, but tend to go with the more contemporary takes on pieces from that era. If you have grandparents that have furniture from this time period though, buy it all off them and put it in a UHaul and come out to California and sell it, because these pieces are going for mucho deniro right now. I don't know about comfort being distant to style though...a lot of what drives the mcm philosophy is integrating nature into the home...lots of windows and natural light, clean lines, an emphasis on landscaping that includes the extensive use of trees and water. But I suppose you are right in the sense that much of the furniture from the era is somewhat spartan due to it's minimalist nature and straight lines. Yea it was more towards the furniture. These are some examples that I would be down, taking advantage of the scenery with the large windows:

First off, this is about the least weird aspect of you Oh and congrats on the future engagment! Personally, I like to look at pictures of these places, but don't know if I'd ever live in one. It'd really depend on the style, since this genre is pretty broad in that aspect. The biggest thing I have against the genre is that comfort is way distant to style, almost every single chair/sofa that gets put in these places looks like a back nightmare to me.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jan 8, 2013 -> 09:55 AM) I think that is fair as well. I think we are slightly higher, more like 80-82 wins. That said, it pretty much states that without a few moves, this team needs a ton to go right to compete which is spot on. Rickels has time though.
  13. Congrats!! Glad everyone is healthy!
  14. QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Jan 7, 2013 -> 02:37 PM) I'm already scared. We need to make more laws, then I'll feel better. Only police and military should be allowed to have AIDS. If no one has AIDs what's to be scared of?
  15. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jan 7, 2013 -> 02:26 PM) Through decades of publicly funded research and AIDS awareness campaigns, the rate of HIV infection has stabilized (though it's still too high) and treatment for HIV is exponentially better than it was two decades ago. Much stronger protocols are in place to prevent accidental transmission in the medical world as well. Public policy in action. I thought the best defense of someone shooting their AIDs infected sperm at me was to shoot AIDs infected sperm back at them.
  16. QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Jan 7, 2013 -> 02:16 PM) Gay sex is risky because you could get AIDS. IMO the government should ban gay sex, or at least force people to wear condoms. Illinois has a felony punishment for criminal HIV transmission.
  17. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 7, 2013 -> 02:01 PM) Not every argument must be a slippery slope. If something can be improved somewhat with laws, that doesn't mean that every law in the world must happen. We do this all the time. We didn't ban cars over 75 horsepower as a consequence of seatbelt laws. "General welfare" from the Constitution be damned.
  18. QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Jan 7, 2013 -> 01:59 PM) I dont know if you've ever bothered to read the Bill of Rights, all of it is laws aimed not at the people but at the government. It was more of a joke towards you stating that those who place any sort of trust in government are worshippers of a government god. And the Bill of Rights is just one part of the Constitution, for the most part the Constitution is about granting power to government (federal, state, and local) rather than restricting power.
  19. QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Jan 7, 2013 -> 01:54 PM) Accidents happen, were just going to have to learn to deal with that as a country. Not just with guns but with everything. Planes can crash, boats can sink, catwalks can fall... just because someone makes a mistake at a range doesn't mean they meant to hurt anyone. As for otherwise law abiding people being caught up in a ragefit and shooting people at random, that's really rare. I dont think the 100 or so people killed every year in those situations is worth tearing up the Constitution and abandoning a core principle of this country. I'm just laying it out there, not going any further with it. Stop putting the constitution, aka government laws, on a pedestal.
  20. QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Jan 7, 2013 -> 01:32 PM) f*** it, let's just say it because it needs to be said (from your same source): I don't think we need to fully ban guns, but stricter regulations on them (including registering, selling, permits and background checks, etc) need to be put in place. I understand and respect the right to legal gun ownership, but we need to attack the issue of the amount of guns available to people in multiple directions. That means trying to minimize the legal purchased guns that are used for illegal activities, whether it's because they are stolen (from store or individual), lost, or inadequate background checks.
  21. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jan 7, 2013 -> 01:13 PM) City-level bans aren't effective because its far too easy to get a gun in the immediate area, but it's much more ridiculous to conclude that Chicago has 500 homicides because of handgun bans. I agree with this.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jan 7, 2013 -> 09:43 AM) Couldn't disagree more. I think BoB's factual history lent itself to being a better mini-series. You could follow the same core group of guys through key points in the war. That, and it was one of the first mini-series of its kind. In dealing with the Pacific you had to skip around to different groups to capture some of the bigger battles/experiences. If BoB was an A, I think The Pacific was a B+ at worst. I'll admit my sample size was small, but I started watching an episode of the Pacific and I couldn't get through one of them. It just didn't seem as well done, acting included.
  23. QUOTE (juddling @ Jan 7, 2013 -> 10:53 AM) Actually, you didn't pass me (on the way up), I passed you (on the way down). 5-25 over last 30 games....are you kidding me??? i've juggled the lineup a bit but it seems like it's my pitching more than my hitting. all too often I'm checking boxscores just to find i've given up 6 or 7 runs in the first couple innings...FML. At least we aren't playing for money........ Well last year my team was like that, fell out of contention early even though talent wise I wasn't that far behind. I spent like crazy in the offseason though and my team is pretty loaded. I've finally gone on a good streak and a lot of my players are still not playing well (CC, Kinsler, Bruce, Hamilton).
  24. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jan 7, 2013 -> 11:15 AM) It's not that he survived getting shot 5 times. It's that he survived getting shot in the head and neck five times and was able to walk out of the house and drive for a bit. Massive brain trauma, a severed spinal cord, a destroyed trachea or a severed carotid artery can't be covered up by some PCP or meth. They must have been mostly grazes, it would be just crazy otherwise.
  25. QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Jan 7, 2013 -> 11:01 AM) Earlier in the thread you were complaining about how deadly guns are, now you're backtracking? I dont get it. What happened to 5.56 rounds being the bringers of doom to anything they touch? Not really sure how you view that as backtracking.
