Slow pitch softball thread
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 10, 2013 -> 11:06 AM) Take as many swings as you can in practices and the like. I'd say to concentrate more on going the other way to start, just to get you into the "wait for it" mindset. I may have to go to a batting cage, I was always an oppo line drive hitter in HS but I'll want to get the timing down again.

Slow pitch softball thread
So I'm playing in my first league ever this year, my department is putting together a team and we're signing up for Buffalo Grove's "C" league. I'm curious to find out how good I'll be considering I haven't played much softball at all and haven't played baseball much since my senior season in HS (so about 5 years). That said, I'm stoked to be playing again plus I have a ton of upper management playing on the team to network with

Trade Possibility with Padres?
QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Mar 9, 2013 -> 12:29 PM) As it should have been. I don't think it's ever a good idea to mock other posters. There's been a dearth of topics to discuss here lately. Constant mocking of people who start new threads is detrimental to this sight. I come here to discuss White Sox baseball. We are all not equal in our knowledge of the Sox and mocking and berating new members or posters reeks of bullying. While I still come here often I often leave more quickly when there is nothing to read and go to places like southsidesox, whitesox.com or twitter for better and fresher info. The game threads here are much better than at southsidesox though where they rarely discuss the games while they try to out-smarmy each other. My choice is to read and discuss baseball. Any place that starts to belittle the less knowledgeable instead of educate loses me quickly. Look, I have no issues with posters who may not be as knowledgeable, it's baseball. We all started at some point in terms of understanding MLB more, and we are all learning new things every year. My thread wasn't meant to mock those posters. It was meant to mock the posters who consistently bring up idiotic scenarios, that aren't thought out, and then take it personally when people (reasonably) don't agree. Also, just because there is a lack of conversation on the Sox because of a somewhat quiet offseason, doesn't give the excuse to bring up bad arguments, and then not defend them respectfully, be open to new opinions, etc. Again, not trying to belittle those who come on the board with an open mind, and may not be caught up on some baseball knowledge, it's more of the terrible posting styles that have appeared on this board lately (hence my reference to the typically politically insane Slam/Filibuster threads that seem more rationale than the "discussions" happening in PHT lately).

2012-2013 NCAA Basketball thread
QUOTE (farmteam @ Mar 8, 2013 -> 09:42 AM) Agreed. I know some people whose grad school is their second favorite school, but it doesn't switch the primary one. I would (and did) only switch allegiances for the undergrad choice. Yea if I went to NW for an MBA I of course would be damn proud of that and follow them more closely, but when they play the Illini there would only be orange on my shoulders.

White Sox extend Sale's contract
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 7, 2013 -> 02:11 PM) I'm betting it's actually 6 years and $60 million if both options are picked up. That'd put the regular deal as 4/$35 with 2 options, each at about $12.5 million. Love it. Edit: Of course, I'm counting this year in the "4 years", you could say it's covering the next "3" years and then 2 options for FA years. Not bad at all.

2012-2013 NCAA Basketball thread
QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Mar 6, 2013 -> 08:21 AM) Illinois was the letdown game. This one they got outplayed. I get road games are tough in the B10, but so disappointed in the older players for coming out flat again. Come on, where's the hunger. Win that game and you put yourself in a helluva lot better position for the B10 tourney and really help out your NCAA seeding then. It's just frustrating, I don't think there's been a more up and down team than Illinois this season.

The environment thread
QUOTE (iamshack @ Feb 14, 2013 -> 11:54 AM) That's a pretty awesome car. I guess we have a special electric vehicle charging rate between 10 pm and 6 am. I want. My company has 5 charging stations in our parking lot that are free to use (until they figure out a way to efficiently charge the users $), if only I had $90k laying around...

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Feb 23, 2013 -> 12:21 PM) Just f***ing start already I reread SoS in anticipation, unfortunately I finished it too quickly and now have to temper A Feast for Crows until the season starts.

Sox trade RP Jeff Soptic for 3B Conor Gillaspie
QUOTE (oldsox @ Feb 23, 2013 -> 07:07 AM) Giants GM is better than Sox GM. Clearly you're a fan because all you want to do is complain. You don't love the White Sox, you love whining, you love that the grass is greener throughout the neighborhood (though it's not). Just stop following the Sox for your sake and everyone else's.

Ever been to a sporting event by yourself?
Ive gone to a couple Sox games by myself when they would text out really good deals the day of games. It's a bit awkward, but it can be a lot of fun as well. You can enjoy the game how you want to that's for sure.

QUOTE (SexiAlexei @ Feb 18, 2013 -> 08:38 PM) What do you mean no one can have sales anymore? And it's a good try by Best Buy. You can still save a pretty nice chunk from Amazon by avoiding the sales tax. (Yes, I know, technically you are suppose to report that). Most major companies set lowest available advertised price, hence why Amazon will typically hide a price until you add it to the cart.

Buying a car help
QUOTE (Tex @ Feb 18, 2013 -> 07:31 AM) I was in Illinois when I did it. I was a few thousand dollars to the good, so it still made sense. I understood the reasoning, the leasing company paid the first tax and I paid the second. But common sense indicates that the consumer pays it twice. Once in the lease payment, then again if they buy it and resell it or keep it. I get the reasoning, but common sense should indicate that you aren't purchasing the vehicle when leasing so your taxes shouldn't be the same as actually buying the vehicle. Tax a portion of it, I totally understand that, but full msrp for a 2-3 year lease is ridiculous imo.

Buying a car help
QUOTE (Tex @ Feb 17, 2013 -> 06:47 PM) Hell Camry is a nice car. When you get about six months from the end of the lease check the current value versus the buyout. Sometimes you are sitting pretty especially if the mileage is low and the car is in excellent shape. Unfortunately Illinois sales tax laws blow when it comes to leasing cars and buying the car after the lease (you essentially pay full price sales tax twice).

Technology catch-all thread
QUOTE (Y2HH @ Feb 15, 2013 -> 01:36 PM) It's a pretty convoluted process, but you can get it to work without enough tinkering. They'll have this patched early next week (if not sooner), they've already said as much, along with the Exchange bug. Also as IT security, I wouldn't sound alarm bells unless they let this linger on for weeks on end...I'd assume they won't. And this won't be the last time such a zero day bug is found in just about any product people use. That said, Apple is going to need to be increasingly careful, just as Google has to be...there is a lot of scrutiny on their products right now. It's not the first time something like this happened with an iphone. Every software/hardware company needs to be careful these days, the amount of hacking that is going on and the price tag put on information security has really become front and center for companies. The company I work for dropped RSA for our vpn solution because they got hacked, and one of our conditions for future contracts is liability insurance in case the next vendor gets hacked (which is increasingly harder to get since it's happening so much more now).

2013 Spring Training catch all thread
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Feb 15, 2013 -> 11:50 AM) Thornton had his worst year since 2007. It was also the most he's ever used his slider with the White Sox. The year he used his slider the 2nd most was 2007. I'm hoping eating right helped him forget he has the slider. Yup, it's all about Thornton hitting his spots with the fastball, when his control is off that's when he gets hammered.

Pretty amazing video, it's crazy what gets caught on video these days. Hopefully no one was seriously injured, I had heard 400 injured but no one killed.

I honestly saw nothing wrong with that poster until the reference was made. It's a pretty great pic of father and son, you gotta be pretty sick/bored to come up with that reference and care about it.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Feb 13, 2013 -> 05:42 PM) Wow...they delisted the property and are intending to re-list it for an additional $75k. What a dick move. That is s***ty, they must've gotten some really nice offers or something for that big of a jump.
