2013 AL Central Catch All thread
QUOTE (flavum @ Apr 9, 2013 -> 12:51 PM) Nice catch... http://www.mlb.com/video/play.jsp?content_...0130409_7010984 Anyone else think sunglasses on top of the cap while playing is just the worst? Not really, it's better than them keeping the glasses on the top button of their shirt or something. It's functional for them to keep the glasses there, if the sun comes out while theyre in the field and they need the glasses, where else would they keep them?

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Apr 8, 2013 -> 05:16 PM) Somehow? Girls are almost always hotter as brunettes. I typically agree, but Dany is smokin' as a silver-hair, didn't think she would top that look. Also, she dates Seth McFarlane, lucky guy.

Asking her Father/Popping the Question
I definitely get the respect portion of it, I just honestly hadn't heard of any one near my age who is getting/is married do that. More curious than anything.

Asking her Father/Popping the Question
QUOTE (iamshack @ Apr 8, 2013 -> 04:51 PM) Hah....I have to do this as well in the next few months most likely...I think I am just going to go over to his house and tell him I plan to ask his daughter to marry me, and I would appreciate it if he would give me his blessing first... So I find this all very old-school, is it still common place to do this? I know it's a way to show respect to the father in law, but I just thought this was out-dated.

Frustrating.
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 8, 2013 -> 02:58 PM) Was that last part really necessary? Let's tone it down a little bit. I actually agree with you that it is a bit insulting to question people's fanhood because they haven't been to a game yet, one week into the season. I also agree with SS2K5 that the Sox fan base is fickle, that is just the way it is. But, the OP also was specifically pointing to people who were complaining about ticket and parking prices - and he's right that they don't have much room to complain anymore. But it is also WAY too early to make a judgment on how the price changes will or won't hurt things. Wasn't OD sold out? If others feel like me, it hasn't felt like baseball weather and going to the ballpark hasn't been on my mind quite yet. I've been making plans for later in the summer but with the rain and cold I'm not thinking "oh hey, perfect day for an impromptu Sox game."

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Apr 8, 2013 -> 12:16 PM) Jesus, even with my meager $30K yearly pay, giving $4,500 to a baseball team seems excessive. People have monthly payments to make towards rent or mortgage as well as car, insurance, phone, credit card, cable, utility, and any other assorted payments they may have as well. 15% is an absurd amount of money. You might be able to get away with an argument for 5%, which is still a ridiculously high standard (which would still be $1,500 a year from me, which is a crazy amount of money - between beer, tickets, and food, the most I've spent on myself at a baseball game is $70). If you maintain 15%, then there might be like 5 fans - Jerry Reinsdorf included - that you would suggest are doing their part. Pretty sure Marty was not actually claiming people should spend 15% of their salary on the Sox.

QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Apr 8, 2013 -> 09:56 AM) I live in Rogers Park too man. You can hop on the Metra to blaze down there if you don't want to deal with the Red Line or hop on the 147 express at Howard Station. You still have to transfer to the red line though from the Metra right? Or is there some route I'm missing?

I go to about 3-6 Sox games every year, but I also plan a Sox group outing every year which gives the Sox $1-1.5k (patio party + game tickets for 20+ people). I may go to more games on Sundays since ticket prices are so low now, but I live at the very northern border of Chicago so it's still not "easy" to get down to the ball park (yes the redline goes all the way down to it, well ish with the construction, but that's a long train ride).

GOT was good, I like how theyve shortened some of the storylines from the book but still kept the core emotions/plot lines. One nitpick, I thought Thoros was supposed to be bald and more priestly at this point. I know he had the past of being as big a drinker/partier as Robert but if you've read the books then you know whats coming up soon and you would think that Thoros would act more piously.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Apr 5, 2013 -> 11:25 AM) Market times have been around the 2 week area for nice places. Within 24 hours the unit in my building had almost 5 offers right away. You need to be ready to go. Which sucks. I've changed gears and started looking at renos in good locations. Yea unfortunately Im not in any position to buy right at this moment, I still have 4 months on my lease and it would be tough to buy a place, pay this rent, plus buy the things the condo would need. I would love to do a renovation, but where I live (Rogers Park) those properties are like 10-20K less than the fully renovated places (for 2-3 br condos). There's occasionally a house that comes up for under $200k but needs major money put into it, and you wouldn't be able to recoup that money most likely.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Apr 5, 2013 -> 11:14 AM) Yeah, buying a home in this market is rough...you may get a little cheaper price than say, 7-8 years ago, but you also have to deal with a lot of nonsense because of the overarching financial atmosphere. Tough to find a traditional sale, and then when you do, crap like this pops up. I've actually been looking around lately. It seems kinda crazy since Im just coming up on a year out of school in May, but I've saved well and the area I live in is dirt cheap for condo prices. I've just been using Redfin to keep track of listings and one popped up last week that looked great that was a 4th floor penthouse that had a private rooftop deck and elevator (which is almost non-existant in my area). For a 3br, new construction it was only $150k but was missing some appliances (has all the hook ups but needs a W/D and Fridge). Within 1 week though it has a pending offer.

Option 3 may be smarter since you probably want to save some cash up again anyways. I doubt they really would consider a lower offer that much considering they had raised the price. My guess is they are willing to hold out a little bit to get the price they want.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Apr 4, 2013 -> 03:46 PM) I wasnt sure if there were or not. People were talking about things about John Snow and 2/3rd dragon, that I dont remember or recall at all being mentioned in the tv show. I have no frame of reference for it, so its not a terrible spoiler at this point. Now this could be just that I dont remember it, but I am pretty sure there has been no discussion whatsoever about this (even the idea of multiple dragons, etc?). Just more wanted to ask if people who read the books and are speaking about things that are from the future, could use spoiler tags. Doesn't really spoil much.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Apr 4, 2013 -> 10:29 AM) My problem is I skip 75% of that old lore crap in the books to get to the good stuff. I guess that might have been a mistake. Which is why rereading the books has been so enjoyable.
