QUOTE (RockRaines @ Apr 17, 2013 -> 02:36 PM) Its so weird because my father took the train downtown for 30 years and it just started to get that way in the last 10-15. Not only businesses but condos and townhouses. One of my favorite areas to put on my future radar is Elmhurst, I love that downtown area and the housing surrounding it. Of course my Oak Park based wife still thinks thats the boonies. Before deciding to move to the city after school, I thought about staying closer to work and living in Arlington Heights or Mt Prospect and find a place near the downtown area and their train stops. Unfortunately, rent typically was pretty crazy for what you got (very mediocre places, not updated in the past 10+ years, all for $600+ per person/mth). Elmhurst is pretty nice, I've got close relatives who live out there and the neighborhood has always been clean, quiet, while still having major stores within 10 minutes.

Maybe find a reno in OP? Keep the costs lower for now, have plenty of time to make the place yours before kids, etc.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Apr 17, 2013 -> 12:10 PM) We looked at one of those "classic" old River Forest homes the other weekend, bright green carpet, tiny kitchen, wood everywhere. It literally smelled like a cats asshole. Haha you wont find any defense for that from me, RF was always the "snobbier" brother to OP in our minds.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Apr 17, 2013 -> 12:03 PM) Have you looked into Forest Park as an alternative? its a bit cheaper but still close to the target area. My wife is from Oak Park so she is constantly trying to get me to go back to there or RF. I grew up in OP and got good friends still living there so I frequent quite a bit. Forest Park is definitely the way to go for the younger crowd, but the schools are a huge difference so if you have older kids then it's worth moving over to OP.

Damn Shack, that sucks. So odd that they turned down the offer that they came back to you with.
  8. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 16, 2013 -> 08:42 PM) Yes and no. I understand the need for transfers after the mass exodus of transfers out, but we did use to tease heads about Iowa St. taking on so many transfers. 5th yr senior filling a use it or lose it scholly, completely different than the Cosby transfer. I also get the teasing but it's way too smart for Illinois to patch up this team with some solid guys for just next year.
  9. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 16, 2013 -> 08:40 PM) Illinois becoming the new Iowa St. This is a joke right?
  10. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Apr 16, 2013 -> 03:50 PM) Where was my tip?! Decent bounce back after a pretty brutal day yesterday. Shoulda bought it like 3-4 years ago, ~2.5x as much now. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Apr 16, 2013 -> 05:39 PM) Guessing you don't work for Disney. Grainger? Only thing I can think of from today. Grainger. Of course tomorrow we'll be down. This is one of the few times when we report we actually get good gains. While we usually have good or solid numbers we typically go up before we report then down when we actually report.
  11. My company's stock shot up big today, new record for the company. Exciting times for a very conservative (historically) company.
  12. QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 15, 2013 -> 04:53 PM) also, 22 people are injured (maybe more), that's not nothing. And these aren't just minor scrapes, reports were stating major amputations for many of the injured.
  13. QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Apr 15, 2013 -> 04:48 PM) Why? Why cant I point out the real truth here? If two teenagers wrapped a V6 Mustang around a tree and got themselves killed it wouldn't get this attention, if two 10 year olds in the cancer ward passed on the same day it wouldn't even make the news. But a couple bombs go off with similar results and we cant help but be enamored by it. I generally wouldn't care about people's reaction to this, but I think it carries a price to immerse yourself so much in these stories. We get scared and we want something to be done to make us feel more secure. So because the first two Americans to be killed by a bomb in this country since I-dont-even-know-its-been-so-long an entire city is on lockdown and people have found a whole new reason to be scared to live their lives. That's really all I wanted to say, I think someone should say it. 1. Your analogies suck 2. You're just the worst
  14. A marathon would be my last idea if a target. Just terrible to hear.
  15. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Apr 11, 2013 -> 01:08 PM) I'm immediately, incredibly jealous that this website was not my idea. http://thugkitchen.com/ Hilarious. You ever worry about Dick cancer? Me too son.
  16. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Apr 10, 2013 -> 06:19 PM) Site is awful for inside info. It's a bunch of posters claiming they know all, and then more posters backing them up on being right all the time...when they have never been right about anything...ever. Oh yea I totally get that from the site, I'm just stoked with what Groce has been able to accomplish thus far and I reallllly hope he can finally land the big time recruit and the dominos start to fall.
  17. Some guys over at Illinois Loyalty (a few posters now it looks like) are saying that UI and MSU are 50/50 for Cliff now. Seems optimistic imo. Would be HUGE for Illinois to get him.

QUOTE (CrimsonWeltall @ Apr 9, 2013 -> 08:59 PM) Here's an article that SPOILS it http://screencrush.com/nbc-revolution-spoilers-blackout/ Thanks. Man I am so happy for not wasting my time with that show.

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Apr 9, 2013 -> 08:51 PM) This weeks episode of Revolution jumped the shark for me. THAT/THOSE are what caused the blackout? seriously?? So I haven't watched since about the 4th episode, can you put in spoilers what caused it? It sounds like it follows the terrible acting.
  20. QUOTE (flavum @ Apr 9, 2013 -> 01:54 PM) God forbid they wear flip sunglasses and look uncool. You just said that flip sunglasses look uncool, so what exactly are the players supposed to do then? If they have two options: 1) Look decent with sunglasses resting on the brim or 2) wear s***ty flip sunglasses; which one do you think they'll choose?
  21. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 9, 2013 -> 04:03 PM) Or the ebook distributors are colluding to keep prices high. That's what I figured. Pretty s***ty.
  22. Mexican themed chicken (chicken breast cut into thin strips, with paprika, cumin, chili powder, garlic, lemon juice, cilantro, salt) Squash, zucchini, onion, and orange pepper saute with a hint of lemon and cilantro to pair with the chicken.
  23. QUOTE (Jake @ Apr 9, 2013 -> 03:20 PM) How do you the think the margins are in ebooks? Do they do any of their own publishing? Seems like only a matter of time before they would. I assume the Kindle has nice margins as well, but that will have constant and cutthroat competition as well -- especially given it doesn't have a strong argument as better product. Almost anything digitally delivered is going to have good margins, it's typically the physical hardware that makes little money to actually losing money in some cases. The one thing Im not sure about is ebooks, while you would assume they are making a killing off of them, I haven't seen a drastic decrease in price for the actual ebook downloads. This either means the publisher is charging the same/more, or Amazon is keeping the extra profits. Even a year ago in college, the books I bought straight from the publisher that were ebook rentals, were just as much a typical text book (around $100).
  24. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Apr 9, 2013 -> 02:29 PM) Amazon's problem isn't debt, it's their business model. Due to the fact that they're online only, they have massive competition, and a constant drive to the bottom in price, they have a profit margin of less than 1%. I don't need to explain how and why that's not a very good thing. This is why Amazon is trying to use this time to create other businesses that can drive profits for them, because their retail branch will never get high margins, as retail never does. Right, it's why they have all their cloud applications (webhosting, music, video, etc). They also are selecting retail areas that DO have higher margins and attacking them aggressively, I know they entered my company's MRO market about 9 months ago with amazonsupply.com .
  25. You go onto a Sox message board and try to get a rise out of a certain portion of Sox fans and then expect them not to be upset at all or have any lashback?
