  1. I like Brian Anderson. I watched him hit 2 HRs off Felix, and thought he was the next big thing and then some. He still could be - he has a ton of natural talent, and his defense is top notch. But he needs to learn how to handle anything inside. Big time.
  2. Cintron plays his heart out. I hope he's okay.
  3. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Nov 16, 2007 -> 03:15 PM) I would platoon a Loretta with Richar. However the "if we stick with Richar" we are making a mistake. What mistake. You realize to be a decent franchise you need to mix in some young cheap talent with your older expensive guys. This team is old, and we need to get some youth on this team. If we can rotate a guy in, see if he can work out then its good. If we keep on the old man track, in a few years this team is going to be the San Francisco Giants. We're on the exact same page. I just don't want the Sox to stick with Richar as our only starting 2B. I agree we have to mix in the young guys; I'm excited about Jerry Owens and Danny Richar getting better because of it.
  4. QUOTE(PAUL KONERKO 14 @ Nov 16, 2007 -> 02:55 PM) Rather have Iguchi, come back to Chicago. I'd take either Loretta or Gooch, but if we stick with Richar I think we're making a mistake.
  5. QUOTE(kwolf68 @ Jul 30, 2007 -> 12:02 PM) Boston Globe reporting Dye for Pena + pitching prospect is possible. I say we table this and look for better offer. I don't know much about some of the names I've seen I'd rather see Machowiak in the OF than Pena. Come on Kenny, let's not get crazy here!
  6. QUOTE(Hideaway Lights @ Jul 23, 2007 -> 11:19 AM) release Erstad. Ding, ding, ding! Erstad otherwise will break his ankle when he ties his shoe too hard. Or his wrist when paying at the drive thru.
  7. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jul 2, 2007 -> 09:04 AM) The triple is the most exciting play in baseball. Totally agree. Home runs are nice, but nothing beats the play at third.
  8. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Jun 9, 2007 -> 04:40 PM) I never went, but I heard County Stadium was basically heaven. Good one. The nice thing was tix were cheap. That was about it! I've been to the parks in Seattle, Baltimore, LA (the Dodgers), Milwaukee (both County and Miller Park), New York (Yankees and Mets), Boston, and San Francisco. For some reason, I had the most fun at Dodger Stadium, I don't know why. Just a cool, old park. Shea is basically a dump.
  9. I understand the willingness to trade Contreras now, but don't think Gavin is going to step in and deliver. I think that definitely creates a void that needs to be filled. New York makes sense, since Jose's old buddy is there.... I will always be a fan of Jose. He delivered for us on so many occasions over the past two years. If he is traded, best of luck to him.

  11. QUOTE(RME JICO @ May 30, 2007 -> 10:33 AM) Its just amazing how the NY Times will go out of their way to sink this guy. Like the Yankees really need more controversy. It's the Post, not the Times.
  12. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ May 20, 2007 -> 05:48 PM) I'm sorry, but I think you can do far better if you move Jose Contreras. You would also have to get Contreras to agree to waiving his no trade clause. In addition, I don't see Kenny dealing any of the proven starters because it would open up another spot creating a potential hole (especially since there is always a decent chance of an injury in the rotation). I have no problem moving Contreras but I think that time will come during the off-season and I sure as heck ain't moving him for an old outfielder (even if we are talking about getting a pretty darn good hitting one at that). Agreed! No way should we move Contreras for Griffey - that's way lopsided in Cincy's favor. However old Contreras really is, his arm is a hot commodity and I wouldn't part with it unless we really got something big back. I like the idea of Alex Rios. You have to figure Pods is gone after this year, and Erstad has only so many years left. Sweeney is proving himself nicely, but we need a fourth OF. Rios is young and is about the right size of a pickup that KW might actually go for. Depending what Toronto would be want, I'd pull the trigger on him in heartbeat.
  13. Sweeney has been a totally welcome surprise. He looks confident at the plate and adjusts his swing well - keep the doubles to the opposite field coming! I'd say keep him at all costs...
  14. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ May 2, 2007 -> 07:44 PM) You know, I hate to be a complete buzzkill, homer, Hawk-lover right here, but the Twins were 11-18 on May 5th of last year. They won 96 games. I'm not comparing the Twins and Sox, but one of the changes that the Twins made during last year was a change in hitting coaches early on, and they also got rid of their mediocre talent and replaced it with younger talent. In other words, get rid of Walker to light a fire, get Fields up to play LF, get Sweeney in to play RF, and get Dye into the DH spot until Thome comes back. When Thome does come back, demote one of Fields and Sweeney who is doing the worst. It's a long shot to work, but that will atleast bring some talent into the lineup rather than trotting Mackowiak, Terrero, and Ozuna out there every game. Book it. The team needs a fundamental shake up - I say we either do this or get busy with a trade NOW. We can't sit around in our division and wait for things to get better, and we have the opportunity NOW. By the trading dealine, if we aren't in the thick of it, you know they will be looking to sell. Shake this boat, and do it right now. Agreed.
  15. QUOTE(SoxFan562004 @ May 1, 2007 -> 11:42 PM) To me it's not even the lineup, it's the approach. Everyone is trying to hit a homerun. With the pitching the sox have been getting and the opportunities given to the offense, the Sox should be winning more of these games. Agreed. Take Crede - his only swing is a home run chop right now. I admittedly only saw part of the game last night, but he hit a pop out to center, and I thought the bat would have gone flying out of his hands farther than the ball would. That's fine for Thome, but everyone else should be able to hit defensively too. I'm for a major change - be it a trade or a firing. Enough is enough.
  16. We can debate the fairness of this system itself all day. What really doesn't seem fair though is having it in some parks and not in others. I'm no umpire, but isn't it true that we all work differently when we know we are being watched? I find it hard to believe it wouldn't affect the umps in some way.
  17. QUOTE(Felix @ Feb 6, 2007 -> 07:43 PM) It started out last year as the Palehose 6, which was a pirate ship. It was pretty funny to start, but got old quick, although it had the occasional funny one. My expectations aren't too high for the Palehose 7. I thought Palehose 6 was hilarious. It's definitely subtle humor, but his characterizations of the Sox (and even Hawk and DJ) are great. I love that they are in space now.
  18. Gotcha - thanks. Yeah, I was thinking there's no way he gets to us on waivers, so we'd have to give someone up. (Seems like it might be worth it though...)
  19. Okay, someone needs to explain this to me like I'm two year old. Barzado seems unlikely to clear waivers, so if we are to get him, we'd need to trade for him, right? So who do we have that the Ms would want?
  20. Opening Day. The night before, it's beyond exciting knowing that in less than 24 hours, an entire season is about to unfold - that there are going to be ups and downs and more than a few surprises. That there will be something, some play, that you haven't seen before - not this year, not last year, not ever. That the team that takes the field won't be the same team that leaves the park for the last time at the end of the season. That quite literally ANYTHING can happen, and that it will.
  21. Despite all my handwrining over the trades, the one thing I really like about 2007 is that no one is expecting the Sox to win, like they were last year. Even when Thome was bashing the ball early in the season, and the team was out in front of the Central, I felt like the whole world was waiting for the Sox to fall. Now I don't feel that anymore, and that's good.
  22. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jan 24, 2007 -> 06:11 AM) FIn todays market, I am surprised he didn't get a 5 year deal at about 20 million dispite his skill set. Hendry must be on vacation or something...
  23. QUOTE(VAfan @ Jan 23, 2007 -> 06:37 PM) This is a HORRIBLE signing. Erstad can't hit a lick, and I'm sure the range he once had in the outfield is long gone. Every AB Erstad gets playing CF should go to Ryan Sweeney. Even Mack is 10 times better as a hitter than Erstad. WTF are they thinking???? For all his focus on pitching, KW has not done anything to address the numerous holes in our lineup. Plus, the LAST thing we needed was another LEFTY. We have only 3 players on the ROSTER who can hit lefties, yet will face a Santana, Rogers, or Sabathia something like 15 times this season. AACCKKKKKKKK! My hopes for this season continue to decline. Circle gets the square. I want to be upbeat about our moves this off-season. But wanting it and being it are two different things.
  24. In my opinion, Erstad should only be considered a 4th OFer at this point. It really would tick me off if we are going to keep Brian and continue the BA Experiment WITH ongoing platooning. BA hit .313 and .296 in July and August of last year, so he's shown flashes of major league ability. And we all know what he can do defensively. Yeah, he stunk it up at the plate at the beginning of the year, but since we are keeping him, then let's develop him. I'd hate to go back to the Mac/BA platoon scenario, just with Erstad instead this time. That doesn't help us long term. I say give BA til the All-Star break to show that he's got the stuff. If he doesn't produce, we explore other options. Boom.
