I still say it was clear it hit the dirt. I agree that I am not sure how an ump could tell one way or another which is exactly the reason the catcher should know to tag the batter/throw to first just to make sure, especially in a game this crucial.

I saw that as well. I don't know if the ump called strike three or strike three, you're out, but any catcher that is in the big leagues, let alone on a team in the ALCS KNOWS throw the ball to first or tag the guy, don't ASSUME that the umpire saw you catch it cleanly. I am not saying I wouldn't be livid if it was reversed, but I would be more pissed at my catcher than the ump (although he would get some of my wrath as well lol).

It was mentioned that the Angels got away with one yesterday (the barrel slide into Gooch to break up the DP that led up to the 3rd run yesterday) so if they talk about today's "botched call" they should mention the one from yesterday as well.

I was surprised JP didn't throw it to first to be safe. Most times that happens on a potential 3rd out, the catcher throws to first to be safe.

I am pleasantly surprised with their play to date. While the Canes are the primary team I cheer for, I do cheer for the Sens as well. When I heard Hasek signed with them I was excited, but didn't think I would get to see him play. If Ray can control his temper, the Sens are set when it comes to net minding. I have to admit the Heatley trade is working out better for the Sens than I thought it would. I can't wait to see them play the Canes when I go mid/late November (I am also going to see the Canes play Tampa Bay). Even when the Canes suck (as they have so far - the rule changes really pull the Canes out of their game), they play the Sens hard. GO CANES GO SENS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I really wish the spanks had won the series rather than Angels. Oh well. Hopefully they can turn it around.
