  1. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Nov 24, 2007 -> 08:54 PM) ...and what use would the Yankees have for Crede? They signed A-Rod. Well, they did offer Mike Lowell a huge contract after Arod agreed on a new deal. The same plan could be used with Crede, play him at 1b.
  2. I know there is a reason, but i can't remember what it is, so i'll ask? Why do the Sox/Reinsdorf refuse to deal with Boras clients in free agency. I know KW thought Boras used him in the Arod negotiations back when he signed with Texas but that can't be the only reason. I also seem to remember them having difficulty with Boras draft clients but that shouldn't be the be all,end all to not negotiate with his ML level free agents. I was just wondering if there is a specific incident or is it just an accumulation of past dealings where they won't talk to him anymore. I think it's a bad policy on the Sox part even though i can't stand Boras as well. You are taking yourslef out of the hunt for alot of the top players if you refuse to negotiate with him.
  3. I don't , in any way, want Damon. If you can get Abreu for Crede and a prospect, i think the Sox would do that. I agree getting Melky isn't likely in the same deal but you never know. With that move you get the 2 OF's needed.
  4. I think the guy KW is after is Bobby Abreu. They have been rumored to have interest in the past and the Sox/Yanks have been trading partners in the past. Maybe the Sox make a big deal with the Yanks and acquire Abreu and Melky Cabrera.
  5. My uncle lives down in Tampa and he said there are reports that TB is looking to move Upton. I would have no idea why that would be the case but that's what he said. He told me this prior to the Sox acquiring OC,so it's not like there's an Upton to the Sox rumor, and he'd have no reason to make it up, but, i guess, they are seeing what's out there for him.
  6. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Nov 14, 2007 -> 01:45 PM) First, Hall put up an .837 OPS in 2005; he should be good enough. Secondly, you aren't going to get Hall and a prospect for Garland. Possibly Hall straight up for Garland, but I tend to doubt that. To me, Bill Hall for Garland would an absolutely horrible trade. Garland would/should bring alot more than that assuming he's healthy. There are too many teams looking for a quality SP,like Garland, that will drive up his value. His value is already pretty high as is. Bill Hall ????????? what does he even bring to the table? I would just as soon stick with Owens than give a player up for Hall. Big deal what he did in 2005.The Sox won it all in 2005.It has about as much relevance. I tend to think if Hall was already on the Sox, people would be saying the Sox couldn't get anything for him. Switch it around. If Hall was on the Sox and Garland on the Brewers, you would make the Hall for Garland trade in a second.
  7. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Nov 13, 2007 -> 09:59 PM) And Tavarez as well. In fact they've said they're considering a 6 man rotation next season with that group. Matsuzaka and Schilling pitched much better in 2007 on 5 days rest compared to 4. So if any team DOESN'T need starting pitching, it's the Red Sox. Beckett is the only sure thing and they had to rest(DL) him during the year. Schilling and Wakefield are both in their 90's so they can't be counted on much longer.Dice-K stunk the 2nd half. The two young guys haven't proven they can be long term answers. So, Boston, like every MLB team, very much needs starting pitching. They just may not be as desperate as some other teams.
  8. Why not look into trading Garland the Red Sox. KW obviously knows who he would like to get from Boston after last year's trade deadline talk. Delcarmen and one of their young pitching/hitting prospects(Bucholz is out of the qusetion) would be a pretty good return. KW already likes Delcarmen for the pen. The Red Sox staff is starting to age and money to re-sign Garland would not be an issue.
  9. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Nov 12, 2007 -> 02:19 PM) Sizemore was traded when he was 19, putting up a sub .700 OPS in A-ball. Corey Hart killed the ball at the MLB level last year. That's a terrible comparison. Sizemore was always considered a can't miss prospect and probably more highly thought of than Hart so i don't think it's a terrible comparison. Plus, who cares if Hart tore the cover off the ball last year. One year doesn't mean a whole lot. There's plenty of guys who have lit it up their rookie and then struggled. I don't think that will be the case with Hart but just because he did it one year at the major league level doesn't prove a thing yet. I think it's a viable comparison because they were/are young 5 tool prospects that can be moved for the right starting pitching.
  10. They said Milwaukee may release Estrada. He would be a nice addition.
  11. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Nov 12, 2007 -> 04:57 AM) Just why on earth would they trade Corey Hart to the White Sox? Why not? They need pitching and have a surplus of bats. Why did Grady Sizemore get traded to Cleveland? Young talent gets moved all the time for pitching.
  12. Maybe it means Fields at 3b and Crede in LF .
  13. Any trade with Milwaukee should bring us Corey Hart. At least i hope it does.
  14. I wouldn't be surprised to see Jones's name on Mitchell's list of 11 guys that he wanted to talk to. Boras may try to move quickly to get him signed before that list gets made public.
  15. I agree with the poster who thinks people are way over-estimating what it will take to get Cabrera. There's no way anyteam is going to gut it's farm system and give up some major league talent as well. To me, giving up Fields, Danks, Gio,DLS, and others is not going to happen. The Marlins don't want to pay the guy 10 mill+ next year. LHP have a ton of value. Danks, Sweeney and Anderson(or something along those lines) may be enough to be serious bidders for Cabrera.
  16. If the Sox sign Eckstien and trade for Damon, they may be the most un-watchable team in the league. You would think KW knows better than to rely on old speed, grinder types, with no arms after the year Pods and Erstad just had. Damon is worthless. Hell, they might as well re-sign Pods since he'd cost about 9 million less and you'll be getting the same production out there. I still can't believe there's any interest at all in Eckstein. I've neve seen a SS have to wind up to get the ball to 1b until i stumbled upon a Cardinals game.
  17. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Nov 2, 2007 -> 03:48 PM) Ellis Burks signed a 1 year deal with the Sox in 1993 at the age of 28. He had a pretty good season and left through free agency. The following season he put up a 1.066 OPS for the Rockies and went on to play another 10 above average seasons after that. I don't think it's Ellis Burks you're thinking of. You know, i was thinking of Burks but it was when he joined the Indians. I'm in Ohio so that Indians crap must've seeped into my brain. He had 2 good years with Cleveland at age 36,37 and then was hurt and done about a year later. My bad.
  18. This whole Hunter situation got me thinking and it reminds of me when we acquired Ellis Burks. I know he was later in his career. Didn't he have about 1-2 good years and then fell apart physically? Those 2 years he was very good but i can see the Hunter situation mirroring that. At least with Burks i don't think the Sox were on the hook for alot of money after he broke down.
  19. I think it will be amongst these 4 candidates: 1-Uribe 2-Eckstien 3-Furcal 4-Tejada If i had to rank them in order of preference it would Tejada, followed closely by Furcal, then Uribe, and last would Eckstein. However, it looks like KW preferences, going by newpaper speculation, seem to be Eckstein, Uribe, then Tejada/ Furcal. I would absolutley hate seeing Eckstein out there. Why are you going to pay free agency money to a guy just because he can bunt?
  20. QUOTE(3E8 @ Nov 2, 2007 -> 11:19 AM) If KW can't get a package he likes for one of our starters, then Jason's roster is probably almost exactly what we will see If Rowand AND Eckstein are on this team,i'm cancelling my MLB extra innings(only way i can follow the Sox from Ohio) and am not going to make 2-3 trips to Chicago to see them play.
  21. I'd rather have Owens over Crisp just because i think he can develop into a better player than Coco. Sadly, i think the Sox are going to end up with Rowand out there in CF. To me, that's the worst case. 2005 is gone.Brining Rowand back is not going to bring back any magic from that year.
  22. QUOTE(jasonxctf @ Nov 2, 2007 -> 10:53 AM) just off the top of my head, i'd make winning in 2008 of utmost importance. i'd know that the fans are finicky and won't take 2 years of bad baseball in a row without a serious drop in attendance & revenue. (Thus harming future plans) I wouldn't put a significant plan for 09, 10, 11 seasons in place by sacrificing 2008. thus the moves/trades that I'd make would be minor. * Keep all of the starters. Have Contreras, Floyd, Danks battle for 4 & 5 spots in the rotation during spring training. The odd man out would go to the pen and serve as long-relief. * Move Josh Fields over to LF and sign either Rowand or Hunter for CF. (keep Owens as a 4th OF) * Bring in a mid-level 2B to compete with Danny Richar for 2B. Loser takes a Rob Mackowiak bench type position. (Graffanino, Grudzelanek, etc) * Sign David Eckstein for SS * Sign 2-3 solid pen guys to go along with Jenks, Wasserman, Logan, Thornton and the loser of the Starting staff. 1. Eckstein 2. Rowand/Hunter 3. Konerko 4. Thome 5. Dye 6. AJ 7. Crede 8. Fields 9. Richar/2B Bench 1. Hall- C 2. Ozuna- IF/OF 3. Owens- OF 4. Backup 2B/SS 1. Buehrle 2. Garland 3. Vazquez 4. Danks/Floyd/Contreras 5. Danks/Floyd/Contreras Pen 1. F/A 2. F/A 3. Loser of SP battle 4. Thornton 5. Wassermann 6. Logan 7. Jenks I'd rather keep Garland as well but,i think, it's a foregone conclusion that he'll be moved. As for forgetting the Brewer trade, why? There's nothing on the FA market so Garland will have a premium value. If the Brewers had a guy like Garland last year they would've made the playoffs. I agree the Angels trade isn't likely. Maybe Figgins OR Kotchman with Santana would be a possibility.
  23. If i could be Sox GM for this off season here's the moves i'd like to see happen. I think these will give the Sox speed, power, defense and a deeper, effective bullpen. Plus, i think it would be pretty cost effective. Move 1-if rumors are correct, i would trade Konerko to Anaheim for Figgins, Kotchman, and Santana. I personally think Anaheim would balk at that but it's out there so i'm doing it. Move 2-trade Garland to Milwaukee. In return you get Corey Hart and Derrick Turnbow. The Brewers desperately need another quality SP and have plenty of hitting where they could give up Hart. With Hart in RF you could move Dye to 1B.He's athletic enough to easily make the switch. move 3- trade a prospect or two to LA for Rafael Furcal. He probably won't cost a ton to get because LA wants to rid themselves of his contract and they have Hu in the wings. with these moves the Sox wouldn't have to do much in free agency and their lineup would look something like this: CF-Figgins-speed SS-Furcal-speed,handles bat 1B-Dye-power DH-Thome-power LF-Fields-power RF-Hart-speed, power C-AJ-we know what we have 3B-Crede-bounce back year 2B-Richar-speed bench-Owens, Kotchman, Sweeney,Ozuna,Lucy SP-Buehrle, Vazquez, Contreras,Danks, Floyd BP-Jenks, Turnbow, Thornton, Santana, Logan, Wasserman
  24. Garland, Crede, Owens, and Haeger to TB for Crawford and sign Hunter. Give us an OF of Crawford, Hunter, Dye. I would like that OF.
  25. I don't agree with it,but i think they let Crede go. They let Ordonez walk and a back injury seems to be a more serious injury. Plus, they let Ordonez walk with no viable replacement at the time. THey have Fields ready to take over at 3b.Also, I can easily see Torii Hunter manning CF over Rowand next year. KW and Ozzie love the Twins style and Hunter is about the best defensive CF around. Ozzie said he wants alot speed next year. A lineup of Hunter in CF, Owens in LF, Richar at 2b, and a SS(Greene??) would give you 4 pretty fast guys to go laong with the power or Konerko,Thome, Dye,Hunter and Fields.
