  1. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 3, 2009 -> 02:38 PM) My take: Ozzie is an above average manager. We're lucky to have him. Players play for him. That said, he'll be fired some day like they all are. Brian Anderson is an average to below average player. Good fielder though. Wise is a below average player. Anderson is better than Wise. Neither are anything special. Oz should be playing Brian almost every day. But if he doesn't, it is not that big a deal. Wise and Anderson both are nothing to be happy about. well said, i agree 100%.
  2. QUOTE (TheBigHurt @ Jun 3, 2009 -> 02:37 PM) Me neither. But there's a difference between being negative and being REALISTIC. REALISM is that Ozzie mismanages this team and its players as if he WANTED to get fired. realism is that he's had 1 losing record in 5 years and averages 87 wins per year. I guess if he didn't mismanage the team team so bad he'd be averaging 95+wins/ year.
  3. QUOTE (TheBigHurt @ Jun 3, 2009 -> 02:18 PM) Don't let the fact that the division sucked in 08 HORRIBLY skew your thinking. Seriously, the only defensive cases I hear for Ozzie are not only irrelevant but frankly pathetic. I mean, do people like you even pay ATTENTION to the games? Ozzie is such an atrocious in-game manager it's ridiculous. Nice job not even addressing the topic at hand, BTW. i addressed it earlier in the thread. You're the one who went off about Ozzie. I don't see such an atrocious in game manager has such a good record the last 4 years. Do people like you even pay ATTENTION to the end results? To me,that's what matters, not whether i think he should have hit and run in the 3rd inning of game 96. The facts are his end results are very good.
  4. QUOTE (TheBigHurt @ Jun 3, 2009 -> 02:03 PM) I've been saying this for a long time. I thank Ozzie for the past, but Ozzie has PROVEN TIME AND TIME AGAIN that he as an in-game manager he has almsot no clue, and this is just the last straw for me. I really can't believe there are people that still defend him because they can't let 2005 go. They have no trouble saying "get rid of this player, it's not 2005 anymore," yet for Ozzie it's different. I'm gonna go out on a limb and say even when he wasn't hitting s***, BA should have been in there, not Wise. There is NO REASON to trot DW's ass out there when we have a GG caliber CF out there and he is actually hitting, too... NO f***ING REASON. talk about some high standards. 2005 WS CHAMPS, 2006 90-72, 2007 crap, 2008 divison champs. To me, that's pretty good. Don't let the man-love for BA skew your thinking. Also, Anderson is not a gold glove caliber CF'er. He's very good, above average CF'er. It's not like he's in the class of Griffey,Jones(in their day), Beltran, or Hunter and can win games on the defensive side of things.
  5. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jun 3, 2009 -> 01:31 PM) You're saying you expect Anderson to hit like Magglio Ordonez? Mark Teixeira? I'm saying Ozzie would be happy if he did. Me, i'd be happy if he hit better than Rey Ordonez.
  6. QUOTE (Special K @ Jun 3, 2009 -> 12:50 PM) I love Anderson as much as the next guy, but Guillen has a never ending vendetta against him, and that's what pisses me off with all this. It's not that Andersno is slightly better than Wise (even though he is WAY better). The better player should be out there, not the guy Guillen likes more for whatever reason. ' Guillen is trying to get Wise a lot of playing time now for these two weeks b/c if Wise gets hot, when Quentin comes up, he finally has an excuse to get Anderson off this roster. Guillen is sitting there and praying Wise has the 2 weeks of his life so nobody can say anything when he keeps Wise instead of BA. Unfortunately, Wise just isn't good enough to do it. that doesn't make any sense to me. First off, if Guillen wanted Anderson off the roster, he'd be off the roster. I don't think he needs an excuse. Secondly, OG would be much happier if Anderson would be hitting .320, showing some power, and playing heads up baseball. I'm sure Guillen wants to win as many games as possible and,if BA gave him the best chance to do it,he'd be out there playing everyday. I mean do you really think Ozzie is making out the lineup card saying,"you know we have a better chance to win the Anderson out there, but i don't like him so i'll put Wise out there and hope we win anyway" ? He didn't like Cabrera last year but OC played about every game.
  7. Let's face it, neither one of them are very good. It doesn't really matter who is out there. Any production out of either one should be considered icing on the cake. KW's main focus should be on obtaining a legit CF'er. You figure when Quentin comes back that Podsednik will split time with BA or may even be the main guy with BA being a late inning defensive replacement. The thing i don't get is BA has had about 3 good weeks since 2006 and everybody loves him yet Fields has 3 bad weeks and everybody wants to run him out of town. Fields had a slump, 5 for 45, but otherwise has hit a very respectable .285. Many players better than Fields have had longer slumps. Anderson has had a 3 year slump and he supposed to be out there every day .
  8. QUOTE (WCSox @ Jun 3, 2009 -> 11:23 AM) It would take both Beckham and Poreda (and most likely another player or two) to get Haren. And if I were Kenny, I'd seriously consider it. Even if Beckham becomes the next Robin Ventura, Haren is still more valuable. if Beckham wasn't in the Peavy deal, he won't be in any deal. I don't see how there's anybody that KW would deal for that he would give up his top 2 prospects. Arizona would also be dumping a pretty sizable salary so that, in itself, is attractive for them. Don't get me wrong, it will take a very good deal but i seriously doubt Beckham is involved.
  9. another thing to consider is, if i counted correctly, the Sox have will have played 18 road games in May. That's a ton for one month. The good thing is that it evens out in September when they play only 11.So, if they are at or near the top come Sep 1, you have to like their chances.
  10. The opt outs would kill a deal with any team. No team is going to give any player that kind of power. Picking up his 22mill option should not be that big of a deal because it's only for 1 year and, come 2013, 22 mill may not seem to be an exorbinant amount for a #1 pitcher. I would still do the trade in a second, minus the yearly opt out, because, even though the young talent has potential, they could just as easily be failures. Peavy is a proven #1 and 27. You have to take the chance when you can get a guy like that. I'm not sure of the exact numbers but wouldn't Peavy be making less than AJ Burnett until that final year? Burnett's a .500 pitcher.
  11. QUOTE (JPN366 @ May 21, 2009 -> 01:32 AM) That's true, good point. But, in Retherford's case, I wouldn't include him in anything. It would be an Aaron Cunningham like mistake. C.J.'s the next great rags to riches story. Undrafted to perennial all star is what I see in his future. you may be right, but i can't see Retherford being a deal breaker on KW's part in order to acquire Peavy.
  12. he's a young player in a slump. I think he needs alot more time bfore any real judgements can be made on him. He's been jacked around in the lineup and that can't help. Some people still think Brian Anderson is going to/can hit and he's had about 3 years to show he can't. Fields will get it going again. Going 2 for 30, or whatver he has, is going to kill anyones numbers this early in the season. I say he ends up hitting about .255, 21 HR, 75 Rbi. That's not too bad for his first full year.
  13. KW just raised the talent in the minors to adequate in the last year. I can't see him draining 3 top 10 prospects for Peavy. That would undo all the work of the past year. Richard, Poreda, and 2 lower level guys. Beckham, Viciedo, Danks,Allen, Flowers, and probably Shelby won't be included in a deal that already has Richard and Poreda in it. BUt, then again, we are talking about Jake Peavy here. Maybe Broadway gets thrown in there.
  14. KW gets enamored with certain players. I'm sure he'll try and make a run at acquiring Fernando Martinez.
  15. he's good but i can't get over him looking like George Costanza when he wore a hairpiece.
  16. i don't get where people think the Yankees will get a prospect like Poreda or Allen for Melky. Those are the type of prospects that get you use to get high value players in return. Cabrera is going to be a backup CF in New York. Sure they can ask for the likes of Poreda but there's no way any team is going to give high level prospects for Cabrera.
  17. QUOTE (bmags @ Mar 1, 2009 -> 12:28 PM) Thanks for pointing this out. this line: "Walker suggests that Beckham gets his long-ball potential because he has "horizontal power"—that is, the ability to use his body's joints and ligaments to transfer energy in a line projecting in front of him." hence the nickname "Slayer"
  18. I'm willing to give Owens a chance. He was much better in second call up. Whether he can improve on that is yet to be seen. No one knkows what will happen or how he'll play. We know what we have in BA,and at the plate, that is very poor. Owens may turn out to stink as well but i'd give him a chance. People wanted Willie Tavares. I think Owens can exceed him. NOt that that would be saying a whole lot.
  19. My guess would be it would work somethin like this: Reds get Dye and a prospect from the Angels Sox get Bailey and Figgins Angels get Votto The Sox then sign Abreu of-Abreu, Figgins, Quentin if-Fields, Ramirez, Getz/Lillibridge/Konerko c-AJ DH-Thome bench-Wise/Owens, BA, Lillibridge/Getz,Betemit, catcher That may be a more base-runner,small ball friendly lineup but i think it leaves alot of question marks defensively.
  20. I think Linebrink was as big as loss, probably bigger, than anyone else. Prior to getting hurt, the guy was darn near unhittable. If the Sox were ahead after 7,game over.
  21. QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Dec 15, 2008 -> 12:10 AM) I like our team, but the play of Floyd, Danks, Quentin, and Ramirez, all essentially enjoying their first year of success, helped us make the postseason. One year means very little. I'll be just as worried about each and every one of these guys on opening day '09 as I was in the early part of '08. I believe they can do it, but wouldn't be my car on it. I would think they would continue to get better and improve on their last year's performance. To me, that's the natural progression, not taking a step back. But it could happen.
  22. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Dec 14, 2008 -> 11:08 PM) I don't know if it's inexcuseable, but I do know that it's not a playoff team. We BARELY made the playoffs last season, and the team has got worse this offseason and I think the division will at least be a little better. I'm not so sure the Sox have gotten worse this off season. To me, they about the same and have a chance at being better and that's without any further moves. I'm not a stats guy but,if you take away Swisher's 3 week hot streak, i bet he hit at or bleow .200 for the year. Vasquez was mentally done in Chicago at the end of the year. Cabrera's the hardest to replace but it's not like he set the world on fire. Owens can hit .270 and be more of a base running threat than OC. The reason the division went down to the wire was because of the injuries in the bullpen. If Linebrink and Jenks were healthy all year then it probably wouldn't have been all that close. Right now, i think the Sox have a very similar team to last year's. I would like to see them get another SP so they don't have to rely 2 unproven guys at the back end of the rotation.
  23. Would this be a feasable trade? Dye and Konerko for Weaver, Figgins and Morales.
  24. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 12, 2008 -> 11:50 PM) It's pretty damn unlikely that the Angels would deal Weaver for PK straight up, let alone including Figgins into the mix. Alot will depend on if they make the move to pick up Peavy. That would make Weaver the #5 starter behind Peavy,Lackey,Santana, and Saunders.Of course,he may be included in the Peavy deal.
  25. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 12, 2008 -> 09:34 PM) Chester, are you really being serious? to clarify, those guys being the main principals of a deal.
