  1. Wasn't there a rumor a little bit ago about Alexei for Ellersby, with other players mixed in? Maybe this is a pre-cursor to that. Teahan at 3rd and Beckham goes to SS. The thing that bothered me most about Getz is, that for not being a power hitter, he seemed to be a dead pull hitter. Maybe the Sox go speed all the way and re-sign Pods and add Figgins while having Teahan play 2b. They would have a lineup of Pods, Ellersby, Rios in the OF and Figgins, Beckham, Teahan, and PK in the IF with CQ being the DH.
  2. Just because attendance was down doesn't necessarily mean revenue was down. New York, they said was the most accountable for the attendance drop but their tickets prices were also out of this world. I'd guess their revenue was up. The Sox raised prices last year as well so,while it may an indicator of a potential revenue drop down the road,i don't think that's the case right now. Who knows what the actual numbers are.
  3. i don't know if he'd be considered studly but Corey Hart would look pretty good in RF. He kind of had a down year so may be able to be had.
  4. QUOTE (1977 sox fan @ Oct 6, 2009 -> 06:11 PM) agreed we need some power in our lineup not just speed and onbase guys WE PLAY IN THE CELL NOT PETCO PARK i agree. I'd rather bring in Blalock to be the DH. I wonder what his price tag will be. AJ had a nice year but if he's hitting in your 3-4-5 holes then your offense leaves alot to be desired.
  5. i wouldn't mind getting Sanchez. If nothing else you have another good lefty in the pen. He's ypung, lefthanded ,and a KO pitcher. I doubt he comes cheaply but he is definitely attainable. I think Konerko probably has more value to the Sox than SF but they desperately need a RH bat.
  6. The guy i'd like to see KW acquire is Fernando Martinez from the Mets. Maybe Jenks in a package deal? The question is are the Mets still high on him. He struggled this year and still hasn't been able to stay healthy for an entire year but he has a world of potential. He sure would fit nicely into the lineup. Then i'd sign Hank Blalock to be the DH and re-sign Kotsay and Pods for the bench. The lienup would have a nice lefty/right balance and a nice blend of speed and power. LF-Quentin CF-Rios RF-Martinez 3B-Beckham SS-Ramirez 2B-Getz 1B-Konerko C-AJ DH-Blalock bench- Kotsay, Nix, Pods, Wise, Flowers
  7. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Sep 24, 2009 -> 05:14 PM) He was the #1 prospect in the Arizona system when he was dealt for Dan Haren. This past offseason, he was the main piece of the Matt Holliday deal. He's a monster, and he's going absolutely no where. i see what you're saying, but, after reading this,he has been dealt twice. Albeit, in monster deals. I agree, the Sox probably won't be able to get him.
  8. i was looking at Colorado for possible players. For those in the know, is the 23 year kid, Carlos Gonzalez, a legit prospect or is he a product of Coors? He seems to have a good power/speed combination and the Rockies could definitley use a MB type pitcher.
  9. QUOTE (chw42 @ Sep 24, 2009 -> 01:52 PM) Lol, seriously? Braun and Kemp? I wish... Buehrle might get us a Colby Rasums, maybe. seriesly,i didn't say an even swap for those players but having MB in the deal would make them more attainable.
  10. I think KW will dangle Mark Buehrle this off season and see if he can net a big time player in a deal for him. The rotation could still be pretty nice with Peavy, Danks, Floyd, Garcia, and Hudson. There are alot of NL teams(i don't think KW would deal him to an AL team) that seem to be perfect fits for MB and the Sox could land a key everyday player in return. The teams that jump out to me that would covet a guy like MB and could afford him are the Dodgers, Cardinals, Mets, Braves,Astros, and Brewers. I'm not saying MB could net any of these guys straight up but he could definitely make them more attainable in a mutli-player trade. They all have young players that are extremely productive: Dodgers-Kemp Mets-David Wright,Felix Martinez(KW seems to covet him). A sick stat:the Mets HR leader,Murphy, this year has 11. Cardinals-Rasmus, Ludwick Braves-Escobar Astros-Pence Brewers-Fielder, Braun,Hart, Hardy I'm not up on other teams farm systems so i don't know what kind of prospects they have. The one AL team that i could see KW dealing with is Tampa. Could MB and Jenks get a Carl Crawford/Upton?
  11. KW said if they didn't win the division that a bunch of guys would likely be gone. I don't think he was just blowing smoke. Here would be my makeover for the Sox making them younger, better, faster, and a lower payroll while maintaining the long ball threat. The guys i mention in the trades will just be the principles. PK to the Giants for Jonathon Sanchez. SF desperately needs a 1B and some right handed power.PK delivers both. Sanchez is a good young lefty that could be used as the #5 starter or moved to the pen.I prefer #5 AJ and some prospects to the Mets for Freddie Martinez. Look at the Mets catching situation,it's putrid. AJ, i think would be a crowd favorite in NY. FMart may have lost some value in the Mets eyes as he is only hitting at a .175 clip but he's still very talented and young. Trade Jenks and some pitching prospect(anyone but Hudson) to Houston for Hunter Pence. Sign Russell Branyan to a FA contract. Sign Justin Dusherer to a FA contract for the pen. The Sox lineup would look like: LF-Martinez CF-Rios RF-Pence 3B-Beckham SS-Ramirez 2B-Getz 1B-Branyan DH-Quentin C-Flowers bench-Nix,Viciedo,veteran C, Kotsay, Wise/Pods SP-Peavy,Buehrle,Danks, Floyd, Sanchez RP-Carrasco, Nunez, Pena, Thornton, Linebrink, Duscherer
  12. QUOTE (Wanne @ Aug 31, 2009 -> 02:27 AM) I still don't understand why people automatically want to see/or think Beckham as a number 3 hitter next year (Because Hawk said so?). I don't see it for a few years... Why through him into the fire that quick. Personally I don't think he's ready. Q at 3 next year IMO. i say put him there pretty much by default. Quentin probably isn't going to hit for a high enough average to warrant batting 3rd. If he does hit well enough then he's the no-brainer choice. But, if struggles like this year, who else would be the guy for the 3 hole? Rios has potential and , other than Beckham, he's about it. That's assuming KW doesn't somehow bring in a legit #3 hitter this off season.
  13. QUOTE (GO CHI SOX! @ Aug 30, 2009 -> 07:57 PM) 1. Figgins 3B 2. Rios CF 3. Beckham SS 4. Thome DH 5. Quentin RF 6. Konerko 1B 7. A. Ramirez 2B 8. Pierzynski C 9. Pods/Crisp LF platoon i think that's the most realistic i've seen but i think it could easily be: LF-Figgins 2B-Getz 3B-Beckham DH-Thome RF-Quentin 1B-PK CF-Rios C-AJ SS-Alexei
  14. I like these two except for i hear them too much: looked for it, got it, couldn't do anything with it took it right there
  15. I can see giving a guy time to work things out but JD is not even producing at a Brian Anderson level yet he's still in the 3hole. If it was week, or two, maybe 3, but it's going on 2 months. You have to try someone different there. Thome's not a high average hitter so, with basically no #3 hitter, you're wasting the top of the lineup when they get on base. I don't think Rios is a 3 hitter but i'd be willing to give him or Quentin a shot. PK is swinging well again, try him there. Actually, the ballsy move wouold be to move Alexei or AJ(Getz when he's back) to the 2 hole and drop Beckham to 3.
  16. Why even think about shutting Peavy down unless he says so. His whole timetable is based on how he feels and what he reports to Cooper. If he says he's ready, it'd be stupid not to use him. As for Hudson, i'd just assume call him up as well. After Freddy gets balsted tonight, i'd relegate him to pen/minors as well. The Sox aren't going to win anything with a 4-5 combo of Jose and Freddy.
  17. Platooning with AJ is probably the best way but i also could see if Flowers is as good a prospect as he's being touted then bring him in and play him next year. He's got to get the ball rolling sometime. Why not next year? Sign a vet backup and move AJ for some bullpen help.
  18. QUOTE (son of a rude @ Aug 14, 2009 -> 02:46 AM) We arent getting Abreu. After the season he is having this year, he is going to want big bucks. I'm perfectly fine with Jim Thome. .383 OBP and a .500 slugging percentage. He is one of 15 players in the league who have an OBP over .380 and a slugging percentage of .500 or over. That is pretty good. On top of that, he is a lefty. i agree. I don't see any way THome is not back next year unless his contract demands are outrageous and i can't see that being the case. Ozzie, and all his teammates, love the guy, he's going for 600 HR, and he's lefthanded. As much as i'd like Blalock to be brought in, i think Thome is on the team and Dye may be the odd man out. Replace Dye's contract with Figgins and having an OF of Figgins, Rios, and CQ would be acceptable. Pods could be brought back as a #4 OF.
  19. to me, it shows lack of leadership in the Blue Jays locker room. Have they had any real veteran team leaders up there? With the Sox, i'm sure PK, Thome, Dye, and AJ will hold him accountable. BTW, the washing dishes post was hilarious.
  20. Dotel was probably being held back to come in a save sitaution. Too bad the Sox never scored to get him in there.
  21. I wouldn't be surprised to see Konerko moved and Dye re-signed at a cheaper rate to play 1b. Send him in a package to SF for Sanchez and Brian Wilson. Sanchez could be either a candidate for the 5th starter or a bullpen arm. Wilson could either allow the Sox to move Jenks or have a lights outs 7-8-9 combo of Thornton, Wilson, Jenks. Konerko's freed up money could be used for Figgins. As for Thome, i think they'll bring him back at a reduced rate as well but i'd rather have Hank Blalock assuming the LH power hitter role. But i can't see KW signing Figgins and Blalock. I think it will be one of those two though. As far as the #5 starter spot goes, Freddy Garcia or another veteran (Duscherer) could be used to fill that spot until Hudson is ready. My lineup for 2010: LF-Figgins 3B-Beckham CF-Rios DH-Thome 1B-Dye RF-Quentin C-AJ SS-Ramirez 2B-Getz bench-Flowers, Nix, Wise, Kotsay SP-Peavy SP-Buehrle SP-Floyd SP-Danks SP-Duscherer RP-Linebrink RP-Sanchez RP-Pena RP-Nunez RP-Thornton RP-Wilson CL-Jenks
  22. if the Sox do trade for him, couldn't they just say a player to be named later and then that player wouldn't have to pass through waivers? I really think Ricciardi is an idiot an will pull him back.
  23. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 4, 2009 -> 07:42 AM) Yuck. A guy throws a no-hitter and suddenly he becomes a valued property. Atleast Buerhle has about a decade of experience under his belt. I want no part of Jonathan Sanchez and I think he's destined for a bullpen somewhere down the road. i was actually going to add that Sanchez may become more valuble as a late inning bullpen arm. There's nothing wrong with that. Heck, keep Jenks and have a bullpen of Linebrink, Sanchez, Thornton, Wilson, and Bobby. That's pretty strong.
  24. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 4, 2009 -> 05:22 AM) Isn't Salome Bajoras dead? Or was it Ernesto Escarregga or something like that who died? Joe DeSa...one of them or two. maybe Francisco Barrios
  25. after Garko flames out in SF this year, work a trade with the Giants for Konerko. Do a package revolving around Konerko for Brian Wilson,Jonathon Sanchez from SF.
