  1. I agree with Greg. Jenks,in close situations, has been very good until these last 2. Every player goes through slumps and Bobby is in one because his stuff looks very average to below average right now. If he shakes it and gets his stuff back, the bullpen is again the best in the league. If he continues to struggle, the good thing is there are options. The bad thing is, with Jenks mentality, he seems like he may be useless if he's not in a closing role as evidenced by his performance in non-save situations. Let's face it, the team is at its best when Jenks is closing out games like he can and having Putz, Santos, and Thornton shuting down the game in the earlier innings.
  2. In Cowley's article about the Sox interest in Fielder it mentions that KW has given Washington the entire minor league sysytem to pick from. The nice thing is Beckham, Hudson, and Viciedo are on the major league roster.
  3. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 19, 2010 -> 03:05 AM) What would you be willing to give up for DeJesus and Soria? That was the postgame call in show rumor out here, that KC may deal them to the Sox. KC would demand Flowers. What else would you be willing to give up? I think they'll try to rob us blind of 4-5 prospects, maybe even Viciedo with Flowers and 2-3 more. DeJesus seems to be the type of player the Sox want to transition to, so he makes alot of sense. For those 2, i'd give Flowers, Hudson, Morel, plus. I would try and hold onto Viciedo at all costs. I think he'll turn out to be the best of the bunch. Adding Soria to this bullpen would almost be unfair. Ozzie would be picking and choosing from Thornton, Putz, Santos, Jenks, and Soria.
  4. QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Jul 18, 2010 -> 10:06 AM) Just heard on the radio that Dunn is looking for 4 year 15 million per year contract. He's tired of the trade rumors. I don't think he's coming here. To me that doesn't sound too crazy. If he's going to put up 40 HR and about 100 RBI with a high OPS,and you figure his numbers may go up slightly in US Cell, then he'd be worth it. The Sox are paying Konerko 12 mill for about 30 HR and 100 RBI with a lower OPS. Granted PK is a team leader and that's worth something but numbers-wise it doesn't seem way out of line. Plus, that's what Dunn is looking for, doesn't mean he'll get it. The Sox could offer up a 4 year extension starting at 13 mill, then going up slightly every year with a mutual option for a 5th year, or something like that. I know i'd love seeing him a Q bombing from each side the plate the next few years. What kind of trade value as propsects do Stefan Gartrell and Santos Rodriguez have? I know he has alot ok K's to innings pitched and i read where he has a high ceiling. Could Dunn be had for Morel, Gartrell, and Rodriguez?
  5. With that scenario both A & B would be possible, which wouldn't surprise me all that much. If KW could somehow land a pitcher and a bat, the Sox would have to be right there a Series favorites.
  6. I heard AJ Hinch on the radio today talking about Haren. He said they wanted him to throw his cutter less this year and get his fastball up a couple MPH into the 92-93 range. Maybe that's his reason for struggling a bit. Coop seems to have the opposite approach and favors movement over mph. It sounds like a good fit to me.
  7. The Brewers should ask for pitching only. Hudson, Santos, and whoever is our #2 picthcing propsect is what i'd ask for if I was them. If I was KW i'd still rather try and pry Hart from them. To me, he makes the Sox better defensively and offensively and will cost alot less.
  8. QUOTE (longshot7 @ Jul 15, 2010 -> 02:14 PM) With all due respect, if you don't like Scully, maybe you don't like baseball. or maybe i just don't like Scully. I guess it's not so much disliking him as it is that i don't get all the hoopla over him. I've never listened to him much on radio and i'm sure he's a better radio play by play man than he is for TV. For my tastes, Harry Caray and Jack Buck were much better announcers. I like Marty Brenneman on the radio as well.
  9. I can't see a Fielder trade happening. I read where Boras is telling Milwaukee that he expects Fielder to get a Texiera-like contract and that is ths basis for any extension he would sign with the Brewers. It makes it a catch-22 sitauation. I guess that would make him more available but why give up a ton if you can't sign him.
  10. As a Sox fan you have to love Hawk. He's been fun to listen to over the years. Vin Scully is the most overrated announcer. I've never liked him. The best Sox announcing team of all time was Harry Caray and Jimmy Piersall. Two guys never had more fun in the booth and it carried over to the broadcasts.
  11. If the Sox go for another SP, I think they will try and pry away Dan Haren or Roy Oswalt. I can't see giving up a bunch for 1/2 year of Lee,let Minny do that. Oswalt could be had cheaper than Haren, propsect-wise, it's the huge contract next year that would be the problem.
  12. QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 6, 2010 -> 11:14 PM) Would Stefan Gartrell be just as good or better than Andruw Jones at this point? Granted i only saw him once, in Columbus this year, but he looked the part and was very impressive in the way he carried himself at the plate and in the field. Also, what's the deal with Kroeger? Is he Charlotte's version of Kotsay. He seems to bat 3-4-5 every game and i have yet to see his average above .200.
  13. I'm not up on the farm system, like some, but is Hudosn our only legit tradeable pitching propsect? Are there any guys on the lower levels that could bring interest like that guy we traded in the Swisher trade? DeLo Santos i think was his name. Almost every trade scenario discussed has Hudson in it. You would think there has to be some other prospects that are a couple years away that have high ceilings.
  14. I'd also say no to Berkman if he insists that option be picked up. For Oswalt, if the Sox could get Houston to pick up 4 mill, or so, I would have no problem with him making 12 mill from the Sox next year. This year seems to be shaping up as one of the worst trade markets i can remember. Players are either not available(Fielder), have too large a contract(Berkman), or have free agency looming(Dunn) and are just rentals. Plus, other than Fielder, none have really been playing at a high enough level to merit the asking price. We need those damn Padres to go on about a 15 game losing streak so AG becomes available.
  15. I guess Kenny could just take Oswalt's contract off Houston's hands along with Berkman's. Actually, even before this injury, i think KW would have interest in Oswalt if he could get Houston to eat some of the contract. The reports of trying to acquire Halladay in the spring tells me Kenny will pay for excellent starting pitching, to a point and that's why Houston would have to take on some of the contract. I know Freddy has been surprisingly good but that shouldn't preclude you from acquiring a guy like Oswalt. Plus, aren't Oswalt and Peavy buds?
  16. LaRoche's career number's in the AL are .263 BA and a .789 OPS. So what if it consisted of 6 games. .
  17. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 6, 2010 -> 05:19 PM) BJ Upton, he of the .237/.316/.382/.697 line of the past season and a half. He of the 24.1% strikeout rate. He of the s***ty attitude. Yes, that's the acquisition that's going to put the Sox over the top. Walker would fix him/ green.
  18. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 6, 2010 -> 04:59 PM) You can't be serious. Mark Teahen's about as average as you can get. LaRoche's actually a GOOD offensive player and has been for his entire career. LaRoche has better power but other than that, they are very simlar. Plus LaRoche has played mainly in the weaker NL. averge stats projected over a 162 game season for their career. LaRoche: AB-558, R-79,H-152, 2B-39, 3B-1, HR-26, RBI-92, BA-.272 Teahen: AB-588, R-81, H-158, 2B-34, 3B-6, HR-14, RBI-69, BA .268 I'm not saying Teahen is as good but I wouldn't give up a whole lot for LaRoche becuase in half a season he's not going to be significantly better than Teahan. At least, in my mind.
  19. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 6, 2010 -> 10:45 AM) He's got a buyout and costs like $7 million for the rest of the year. His production wouldn't be much better than Adam LaRoche. Well, i think LaRoche's production won't be much better, if any, than Teahen's. So,using that theory, we might as well just wait on Mark. . My order of preference for guys we have mentioned is: 1-Fielder 2-Upton 3-Dunn 4-Berkman 5-LaRoche other possibilities that have had little, or no mention are: Corey Hart Ludwick Huff Overbay Fukudome Aramis Ramirez.
  20. Williams loves the tools guys, Upton has to be the target. Rizzo wants too much for Dunn and i don't think Fielder will be traded for unless an extension can be worked out and that's not happening with Boras. I want nothing to do with LaRoche. Maybe Hawk was onto somethng last night when he was talking about acquiring a hitter. He said soemthing to the effect of why does it have to be a lefthander, if the guy can hit and he's righthanded, it doesn't matter. You know the success of Rios has KW thinking the same will happen with a change of scenery for Upton. The question I have about BJ is whether or not he's a good teammate? That factor seems to play into the equation significantly with players the Sox acquire.
  21. took it right there my new favorite, and you hear it plenty, "he's got the catbird seat."
  22. nice little Bolingbrook bounce
  23. looked for it, got it, couldn't do anything with it.
  24. The Sox will add a bat but i don't think it necessarily has to be a LH bat. That would be ideal but any good bat is an upgrade over having to see Kotsay and Jones in the DH spot. I'm still holding out for/suggesting Corey Hart. Put him in RF, Quentin to DH, and get Viciedo more time at 3B,with Omar coming in for defense, and the lineup looks alot more potent. I know i'm in the vast minority but the return of Teahen, i think, will also have a nice impact on the lineup from the LH side of the plate. You could move Omar back to a rotating reserve and platoon Viciedo/Teahan at 3B.
