  1. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Nov 3, 2010 -> 04:12 PM) Well that limits his tradeability then, doesn't it? For all intents and purposes, Mark Buehrle is a league average pitcher who is going to be due $14 million next year. If the White Sox want to trade him, they will either trade him for nothing, or they will take on someone else's bad contract. I could see Buehrle being sent to the Mets in a deal for Beltran. That's two overprcied contracts and the Mets would actually save money.I'm assuming Beltran is healthy again. I also could see Konerko being gone and being replaced with Dunn at 1b. LF-Pierre CF-Rios RF-Beltran 3b-Morel SS-Ramirez 2b-Beckham 1B-Dunn C-Castro DH-Quentin bench:Teahen, Vizquel, Viciedo, DeAza, Flowers SP:Danks, Floyd, Peavy, Jackson, Sale BP: Thornton,Putz, Linebrink,Santos, Infante, long guy(Harrell?)
  2. Kenny is pretty good at acquiring pitching talent. Danks, Floyd, Jenks, Thornton, Jackson,Pena, and Peavy were all very good pickups without giving a bunch away. My problem with him is that he goes all one way with the everyday players. It's either been all power and no speed/contact or atttempting the opposite this year. Is it that tough to get a good mix of both. The Sox have enough pieces in place to make the proper adjustments. They just need to do it.
  3. I haven't read the entire thread, but alot of it, does anyone think there's a chance Washington's GM gives Kenny a big F-you and puts a claim in on Manny? KW basically called out Rizzo at the trade deadline without mentioning him by name. Rizzo could put a claim in knowing Manny won't go there and still stick it to Williams.
  4. Leave Thornton alone and let him thrive in his 8th inning role like he has for the past few years. While I think closing/saves is a bit overrated, because guys come into pressure situations in the 6th-8th innings as well, I have yet to see any basis for how this team is better off without Jenks closing out games.
  5. Alot of people couldn't wait for Jenks to lose his closers role but him being unavailable has wrecked the bullpen. Jenks had 3 blown saves all year and the bullpen has has blown the last 3 straight without him. Like him ,or not, Jenks needs to be in that closers role and when he's pitching well the Sox are very tough to beat. Players are creatures of habit and not having Jenks has disrupted everybody's role. The Sox picked their spots with Santos, had Putz for the 7th, Thornton for the 8th , and Jenks closing it out. That bullpen was the best in baseball and shut down the game. Now Putz has struggled outside the 7th,and we saw THornton last night extended last night. Santos has still pitched well. Look at the Sox record since Jenks was lost compared to when he was unhittable for about 5 weeks. I think losing him has been the 2nd half demise of this team.
  6. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 6, 2010 -> 09:06 AM) His season has been a complete fail. The numbers speak for themselves. If you want him to come into the game in a playoff game or crucial situation then more power to you. I've seen enough. Of the top 15 players in saves, the least amount of blown saves is 2(Soria, Soriano, Fleiz, Rivera). Jenks has 3,so it's not like has hasn't been doing his job at a pretty good rate. Capps, the supposed savior for Minny, has 5 already.
  7. QUOTE (BearingPro @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 08:47 PM) Well said! We all know what we see...it just takes guts to admit what we see is not good. Jenks is not the closer that strikes fear like Goose Gossage, Joe Nathan and numerous others past and present. There's something wrong with the guy, that's obvious but I'm sure OG will stick with him cause that's what OG does. OG is a players manager so he'll coddle Jenks and try to get something out of him. At what point do these blown save come back to haunt you??? Minnesota will be in it to the end, so we need a reliable closer! The same Joe Nathan that blew 6 saves in 2008 and 5 saves in 2009. .
  8. QUOTE (Hawk09 @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 04:59 PM) Here is the deal.... Thornton sucked today....walked two to lead off the inning? JJ Putz sucked yesterday....did he even get an out? And today he gave up a rope that Alexei miraculously turned into a inning ending doubleplay. Sergio struggled as recently as last week. Hello, gang, Bobby was nasty today, cept for no command of his breaking stuff. If they stick to fastballs,he closes it out no problem. The Twins new closer blew a save this week. It happens. Bobbys stuff is still very good...97mph fastball. The breaking ball to Raeburn was a stupid pitch to call....that is all. exactly.
  9. I have no problem with Jenks closing. He's throwing the ball real well right now. He's hitting the upper 90's and has 3 pitches for a closer. He hung a ball to Raburn. Today is the 1st time he's thrown a bad pitch in awhile. It's not like he's going out there and topping out at 90 with a rolling curve to go with it. He didn't have a good curve today, they should've just stuck with the heat and it likely would have been over.
  10. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 03:17 AM) So that means that Rizzo is free to trade Dunn wherever he wants to? I wonder why the Sox didn't try and claim him... ? Who would the Sox trade for him? They aren't trading Beckham, Viciedo, or Jackson for him at this point. It would be a waste of time talking to Rizzo. I doubt he'd take Kotsay straight up for Dunn
  11. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 04:49 PM) Then pay him to be a coach. they're obviously not paying him to hit.
  12. I'm as big an Ozzie fan as there is but this playing Kotsay is beyond ridiculous. LaRussa wouldn't even bat him 8th.
  13. I don't think the Sox overpaid for Jackson. I'm in the Hudosn is being overrated side of things. If you told me a year ago that the Sox could have Peavy and Jackson for, basically, Richard and Hudson, I would have said you're nuts. Peavy's injury notwithstanding I think they were both excellent trades for the Sox.
  14. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 08:59 AM) Huh? How could you even say that? Dunn is a much better fit for our offense. Berkman is more of an all around hitter, and better on the basepaths, than Dunn and that's what the Sox have tried to do this year. Dunn brings more power without question but he's alot like Thome and the Sox/Ozzie said they are wanting more gap hitters and such. I'm not saying I agree with it but Berkman is more in that mold.
  15. QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 01:52 AM) Man would that be amazing, a Berkman and Jackson from AZ trade would be great additions. And at the most it hopefuly would only cost us at the MOST maybe Hudson and one of the trio with the rest being fillers for both players. That would be a perfect trade day for me as well. I think Berkman fits in more with what the Sox are trying to do offensively than Dunn does, and I like Dunn. The one guy I don't want the Sox to give in any trade is Viciedo(Beckham is already off limits).
  16. QUOTE (AWhiteSoxinNJ @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 07:27 AM) Stop over-valuing Hudson. In any other organization, he's an average pitching prospect. Jackson helps them win now and that is the goal. I see more Brendon McCarthy in Hudson then I see John Danks. I was just getting to post something similar. I would trade Hudson for Jackson in a minute. With Peavy back next year ,the rotation is sick and it also helps out the remaining part of this year. I look at the success Cooper has had with Floyd and see a similarity in that with Jackson.
  17. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 12:11 AM) To me it would really be an upset if the Sox get Dunn. How often have they been tied to be close to getting someone and then it doesn't happen? It seems almost all the deals they make appear out of the blue. I agree. With all the talk about Dunn, it sets up Kenny with the perfect smokescreen to acquire someone else he has his eye on. I still wouldn't be surprised to see Berkman end up on the Sox or a guy out of nowhere like Markakis.
  18. It looks to me like Lilly is either tough as nails or gets lit up pretty good. In his last 10 starts, he's had 7 good starts and 3 terrible. In his 7 good starts he had 49 IP, 7 ER, 1.28 era, 32 hits allowed, 46K, 9 BB. In his 3 terrible starts he had 15 2/3 IP, 20 ER, 11.49 ERA, 28 hits allowed, 11K, 5BB. The good thing is he's pitched in the AL before and is a solid veteran lefty. Let's hope the price tag isn't too high. Flowers, or any top 10 prospect seems to be too much. Two guys from 10 and above ranking should be plenty seeing a Lilly is making 13 mill this year.
  19. An under the radar pitcher the Sox could try and get is Jorge De La Rosa from the Rockies. He's a free agent at the end of the year, the Sox have made trades with Colorado before, and he has great stuff that KW likes. He kind of reminds me of a Javy Vazquez type pitcher, great stuff but struggles at times. He's going to be a type B FA. I'm not sure what he would cost or what the Rockies are looking for but he'd look nice in the the #4/5 pitching slot.
  20. What about Brett Myers? He's been throwing very well lately but he shouldn't command an exorbinant price tag.
  21. i don't get why Arizona would even be in talks with Washington about Dunn unless it's a 3 team trade. They have no use for him. I just heard DiPoto on the radio and he was talking about how they need to bolster their bullpen back to like when they made the playoffs(Lyon, Pena, Valverde). They are looking way down the road at power arms, so our class A/AA players are who i'd look at. A package of Sergio Santos, Santos Rodriguez, and a Shirek/Jones/Nunez may get us Dunn if the Sox are getting him from Arizona. Washington may want guys more at MLB ready level if dealing directly with the Sox.
  22. I remember Fielder having issues with teammates the last couple years. I can't remember who was at fault but he was in the middle of it. Dunn, by all accounts i have heard, is said to be the ultimate teammate and should fit in very well. I guess the big issue with him would be his accepting a DH role.
  23. When the Sox made their move from June to all star break Jenks pitched 15 2/3 innings, had a 1.14 era, 18 K, 3 bb's, allowed only 9 hits,.765 whip, and 12 saves. Those are pretty good/great numbers. I guess my point is, when he's on and doing his job the Sox are at their best. There's no reason to think he can't bounce back unless there is some unknown issues with him that haven't come out. Plus, there's no guarantee Thornton or Putz will thrive in the closers role either. I suspect Ozzie will give Thornton a few morw save opps but Jenks will still be the main guy unless he continues to struggle. In the past Jenks has usually responded pretty well when OG has threatened to go by commitee.
  24. People would probably kill for Papelbon and he has more blown saves, allowed 6 HR's, and has only struck out 32 in 39 innings. BTW, not that it's a big deal, but Thornton has as many blown save as Jenks in only 7 oppurtunities.
