The easy solution would be to put Viciedo in RF and Quentin in LF. I was thinking that would be horrible defensively but ,with the way Pierre has been playing, it can't be much worse. As for the lineup, if everyone would hit to their capabilities, a nice lineup would be: Rios Morel Dunn Konerko Quentin Viciedo AJ Ramirez Beckham

why the fascination with how guys the Sox traded are doing, especially when they are doing well? They are in completely different situations and success in Oakland, Arizona, or wherever doesn't mean they would be successes in Chicago. Look no further than Swisher as an example. All I can say is good for them. Are the Phillies dumb for trading Gio back to Chicago? Some guys go on to be successful, it seems most don't.

This may be it. I have been on the fence to cancel the rest of the season for my MLB package and this may be the last straw. It would be different if they were even the least bit fun to watch, but they aren't. The only reason I haven't cancelled is because of last year's mid season run. I'm coming to Chicago in June and I think for the first time, I'm not going to go to a game. I don't get how a team can be this blah and boring.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Apr 27, 2011 -> 07:31 AM) Think so? --- He's never been a small guy. I think he's just fine. I realize he's a big guy and that's what, I think, is kind of giving him a free pass. I've always liked him but this year is as big as I have seen him. It's funny, when I turned on my phone this morning, there was a text from a friend of mine who's a lifleong Reds fan, and it basically echoed what I had just posted. I think he'll end up being fine but it wouldn't hurt for him drop 15-20 pounds.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Apr 24, 2011 -> 04:19 PM) I think he's likely to go to Arby's. In fact, the entire team should go to Arby's. Because they have good mood food. That's Dunn's problem. He looks like he has spent too much time at Arby's. He's fatter than I have ever seen him. The reason he's swinging and missing so often is that he has to adjust to looking over another chin as the pitch approahces. I like Dunn, and being in Columbus, I saw him come up through Cincy, but the guys is just plain fat right now and needs to get back into shape.

I wonder what the record is for consecutive blown saves. People may want to blame Pierre, and he should have caught the ball,no doubt, but that hanging slider he threw would have been a HR if anyone with any semblence of power was at the plate. The guy was an All-Star as a setup man. Put him back in the role he's best suited. I think he will get moved out of the closer role seeing as how quickly Ozzie pulled him. Even after blowing a save, it seems Oz usually let Jenks finish out the inning.

When people were calling for Thornton last year, I was a defender of Jenks and said that I didn't care about all the stats, like his high ERA, and that his main job was to get saves and preserve the victory. Jenks had a pretty good save %. Thornton, to me, isn't a closer and doesn't have the mentality. By putting him in a closer's role you are not putting him in the best position to succeed and ,on top of that, the Sox are losing something they had over almost every other team, which is the best setup man in the game. I don't know of Sale is the guy, but I'm pretty sure Thornton isn't. If I had to pick someone, I'd likely go with Santos. He doesn't pitch scared and he seems to have the makeup of a good closer.

QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Apr 8, 2011 -> 02:25 AM) I at least care about him because he has the talent to actually make a difference while Lillibridge is just kind of there. What good is having talent if you can't transfer it to the field. I really don't get the what the big to do is about keeping either Milledge or Lillibridge. If the Sox season hinges on either of those 2 , then it's going to be a long year anyway.

I may be the only one who thinks Teahan is going to have a nice year. I thought he was just starting to get comfortable and his hitting was picking up when he got hurt. By the time he returned, Vizquel had unexpectadly played so well that is was hard to remove him from the lineup. I argued last year that there is an ajustment period that everyone goes through probably even moreso with Ozzie. He should feel alot more comfortable this year and I think could easily hit about .275 with 20 HR and 70-80 RBI. I'd think anyone would take that. By no means am I ready to hand over 3rd to Morel based on a late season call up. He shows promise but so have alot of guys. Either one will have to earn it.

Good move. 7 years, 600 wins, 2 division titles, and a World Series title. I don't know how you can expect much more out of a manager.
-
I think was one of the most consisten things you can count on for the Sox over the years has been the performance of Buerhle. Why would this year be any different?
-
In a vacuum, I'd rather have Jenks but his time here was over. It seemed like his relationship with Oz was detiororating and was probably good for both sides that he move on.
-
I think Jenks is going to do well in Boston. His health is the main concern. If he's healthy, he'll be good.I think he was criticzed way too much around here, just like I think Teahen is, but everyplace has their whipping boys and there's nothing wronfg with that. Guys are going to have bad stretches that happens. Overall Jenks was very good.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 16, 2010 -> 04:52 PM) Over the top Red Sox fans remind me a hell of a lot of the Ohio State football fanbase. Completely irrational. You're right. I live in Columbus and am an OSU fan and I can't stand about 90% of them. Pittsburgh Steeler football fans are right there with them.

QUOTE (pktmotion @ Dec 16, 2010 -> 12:32 AM) Looks good... could see a vet LOOGY signed late in the season like Byrdak or Beimel on the cheap. And a couple of kids(Infante/Carter/Marquez/Nunez/Dolsi/) fight it out for the LR/MR roles Has Arthur Rhodes signed anyhwere yet? I wonder what he would cost? But I'd be OK breaking in a youngster in that role too.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 15, 2010 -> 07:24 PM) That's true, I suppose I was thinking more of Texas when in reality he chose the most "luxurious" place of all, considering he's going to be in the middle of that rotation. Still, they have time and the resources to ride the storm out. Yeah, OK, a top 10 prospect in the game who just put up a .980 OPS in AAA as a 22 year old isn't going to be traded for an outfielder who is terrible defensively, is coming off a solid but very streaky season, and is injury prone along with a pitcher who has so-so mechanics while questions loom as to whether or not he is actually going to be able to start. I doubt Ruben Amaro would even consider that deal. I guarantee you Williams does. Success at AA/AAA doesn't mean he's going to be a good MLB player. They are indicators. Just like an indicator is if CQ is healthy he can be a league MVP candidate. Brown got called up and scuffled. Sale came up and thrived. There are penty of top 10 prospects around who have failed miserably at MLB level. But I'll defer to you because you speak in absolutes and seem to know how every GM of every franchise thinks and the trade value of every prospect and player out there. I respect your opinion but,and I'm reltaively new here, you come across as a know it all and it's stupid for anyone to disagree with your assessmnet of players. Just like your "can we stop all the Carlos Beltran trade talk". Why should we? Granted he likely won't be traded to the Sox but you don't know anymore than me, or the rest of us. He could get traded to the Sox just as easily as not. I seem to remember last year, and I don't know if this was you but it was many, that Adrian Gonzalez would cost Beckham and the entire minor league system from the Sox. Turns out the price wasn't all that high. In fact, it seems like most trades return a far less amount than what is predicted on here.

QUOTE (Lillian @ Dec 15, 2010 -> 08:16 AM) Carlos Quentin and Sale is too much to give for Brown. Wouldn't K.W. be crazy to even consider that? Philly would take that deal in a second and that's way too much to give for Brown. KW, I doubt would even consider that.

QUOTE (Buehrlesque @ Dec 15, 2010 -> 01:03 AM) I don't see the point of an "All In" team trading a SP for prospects, relief pitchers, or anything that would open up a hole on the roster. But... Here's a totally wacky scenario I dreamed up: Suspend reality for a minute and consider the following: 1. Trade Quentin and Viciedo to the Rays for SP Matt Garza 2. Trade Gavin Floyd to the Yankees for OF Brett Gardner and RP Joba Chamberlain 3. Trade Juan Pierre to anyone willing to take his contract, maybe with a $1.5 million subsidy 4. Trade Mark Teahen and one of Kyle Bellamy/Charlie Leesman/Nathan Jones to the Mets for OF Carlos Beltran plus $6.5 million. 5. Sign Freddy Garcia (one year, $1.5 million). Net Payroll Hit for the Sox: ZERO* ($19.5 mil out, $19.5 mil in) Now that's "All in"!! Do I think that is reasonable? Not entirely. But how cool would that be? The trade I'd like to see would be a different combo than you mentioned. I would like to see Pierre and prospects go to the Mets for Beltran. You could move Quentin to LF and have an CF/RF combo of Rios and Beltran. I know there wouldn't br a coventional lead off hitter but so what. That would be a loaded lineup : Beckham Alexei Dunn PK Beltran Rios CQ AJ Morel

If Lee doesn't sign with NY, what about a Buehrle/ Brett Gardner kind of deal ? Money is no object for NY and Gardner can take over for Juan.

Multiple Sources: Sox actively shopping Quentin
Lemon_44 replied to SoxFan1's topic in Pale Hose Talk
It seems like Ozzie talks alot about Quentin being the key to the offense. I think they'd have to blown away to trade him. I wouldn't trade him. -
QUOTE (Mattchoo @ Dec 8, 2010 -> 08:50 AM) I'm not excited at all about signing PK to 3/40+, or DLee for 10M. Can't the Sox get in on the Prince Fielder talk? I'll settle for PK or DLee if it is a good deal. 2/24 for PK, or DLee for about 6-7M 1 yr. Do any of us expect trades this week for the Sox? I'm with this if a long term deal could be worked out. Everyone knows what Gonzales is going to get from Boston and Prince should be a little less. I would rather have Fielder for 6 years at 18-20 than PK for 3 at 14-15. What SD got from Boston in a trade also sets what to expect, actually a little less, the Sox would have to give up to get him.
-
Why trade him? He's only 21 years old. So what if he has a year, or two, more in the minors. What if Konerko/Dunn gets injured. He'd be a nice guy to step in. I don't think the Sox have any interest in trading him. And, if so, it would have to be for a pretty good return. 21 year olds with his type of raw power don't grow on trees, not to mention he hit over .300 in his limted AB's. I don't think he'll be .300 hitter but I wouldn't be totally shocked if he was.

The official Winter Meetings trade idea thread
Lemon_44 replied to macsandz's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I don't know why but I have a feeling Beltran is going to end up on the Sox. -
I think the offseaon is going to more simple than a bunch of trading. I think Konerko will be with another team and Dunn brought in. AJ comes back at a reduced salary and I wouldn't be surprised to see Berkman brought in on the cheap to be the DH/1b.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 3, 2010 -> 05:55 PM) Why would Mark approve that type of deal? Why wouldn't he? He doesn't come off as the type to block a trade.Plus, he'd pitch in the NL, which would likely increase his output which could lead to a better contract come his free agency the following year.
