  2. QUOTE (YASNY @ Oct 2, 2008 -> 09:28 AM) It takes a good throw, a catch and a tag. If any element is not not executed, it's a run. That was a good play on the Twins part with the game situation as it was. If I'm coaching 3rd, he's going. I'm thinking,if the sitaution was reversed, and Cox had sent someone like AJ,and he was out at the plate, that Cox would be getting roasted by the fans.
  3. anything to get Wise out of the lineup is fine with me. So he had a couple big hits a couple weeks ago,big deal, he now has reverted back to form. Get him out of there. In the playoffs,i'm a firm believer of play your best players and there's no doubt Swisher is a better player than Wise.
  4. It's nice to talk about but does it really matter how hard he throws. 95 located is better than 100 with no movement down the middle.
  5. QUOTE (BearSox @ Oct 2, 2008 -> 07:41 AM) I'm still wondering why the Twins sent Cuddyer, it was a stupid move. Any CF not named Jerry Owens could have thrown out Cuddyer in that situation. In that situation you send him only if it takes a perfect throw, and Griffey's throw was far from perfect. exactly right. Griffey has been around.I'm sure he knew he had time to nail him at the plate. In fact,on the replay, you can see him glance toward 3rd to see if they were actually sending him. Any major league CF throws him out on that play. The Twins were hoping for a horrendous throw in that situation. That's the only way they score there.
  6. QUOTE (BaseballNick @ Sep 21, 2008 -> 12:13 AM) You do know the Sox have been in first place for just about the entire season, and have a 2.5 game lead with a week to go right? The guy who brought front-runners for league MVP, and the ROY, (not to mention Floyd and Danks) should be on the hot seat huh? this is the most logical post in the entire thread.
  7. QUOTE (scenario @ Sep 5, 2008 -> 04:56 PM) MLB.com says it happened in the Cleveland game on Monday, but doesn't describe how it happened. He may have injured trying to get a comb through that wig of his.
  8. the Sox are a veteran team. They'll pick up the pace with Quentin out. They can use this as a rallying point for the final 23. None of these vets are going to like being told they don't have a chance without Quentin. MB needs to set the tone with a shut down pitching performance tonight.

    13-10

with 23 games left, i think if the Sox go 13-10,they win the division. That would put them at 91-71. Minnesota would have to go 14-8 to tie. I think the Sox can easily do 13-10. 2-1 vs. Angels 2-2 vs. Toronto 2-1 vs. Detroit 2-2 at Yankees 2-1 at KC 1-2 at Minn 2-1 vs. Cle looking at it, 13-10 should be the worse they do. They could sweep Det and Cle at home and take 3 of 4 against Tor. Of course, they could easily lose all 3 in Minny as well.
  10. I think the Sox know alot more than any of us. Broadway is a SP and Carrasco is a bullpen guy.Why would you switch it around ? Let's see what Broadway actually does before all of us "scouts" say he has nothing. Most people just judge a prospect by how hard they can throw. I think it's kind of funny in this thread that Gio's fastball topping out at 92 is great while LB's topping out at 92 is not so great. He can't be any worse than the crap Richard threw up there and most people were looking forward/wanting to see him pitch. Broadway may end up stinking but do you really think if the Sox thought Poreda or Egbert gave them a better shot at winning that they would be up here instead?
  11. QUOTE (Jake @ Aug 3, 2008 -> 11:36 PM) The more I see Fields play this season and see his AAA numbers, the more I feel like last year was a fluke. Watching last year, it was amazing to see Fields put up the numbers he did with what seemed to be an inability to hit a decent fastball. Last year Fields was in shape.Maybe it's the injuries but, this year, to me, he looks to a bit heavier. I think he need to drop about 10-15 to get some quickness back.
  12. Any chance the Reds throw in Brandon Phillips ? I like the deal.If you can have Dewayne Wise or Ken Griffey, i'll think i'll take Griffey everyday. The lineup will be much more versatile/better if Ozzie want to go righty vs. lefty.
  13. let's face it,except for about 3-4 weeks for Swish, they have both stunk the whole year.
  14. how about Gil Meche from KC. He's pitching very well right now and i'm sure KC wouldn't mind getting rid of his salary. He kind of reminds me of a Vasquez type pitcher, a guy who has all the stuff in the world but never really dominates in the W/L column. He has the power arm that KW likes and probably wouldn't cost the farm system to get him. I know it's the time of year where everyone throws out trade scenarios and possible acquisitions so i'm throwing out Meche.................................. or Burnett.
  15. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 21, 2008 -> 10:12 AM) I've been advocating the trading of Fields for some time. He'll never be a great Major League player due to the ridiculous K numbers. yea we should never want guys like Reggie Jackson, Jim Thome, or almost any other power hitter. I'm not saying he'll be as good as those guys but to discount a power hitter based solely on # of strikeouts seems shortsighted to me. As for the question, i wouldn't trade Fields until i knew i had a deal with Crede in place or another LEGITIMATE option and not some of the journeymen names that have been thrown around
  16. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Jul 15, 2008 -> 01:30 AM) I don't have a quote, but a Texas newspaper quoted Wilson as saying he got fired up after he heard Ozzie talking s*** to him from the dugout. I have no reason to believe he is lying...so, if true, that's pretty damn classless by Ozzie. You don't need a manager talking trash to a player while he's pitching. That's pretty retarded. Can't really blame Wilson for shoving it back at him. Instead of paying attention the opposing dugout, maybe he should be more concerned about the 3 runs allowed and the game he almost blew. If i'm the Sox, i ride this guy from the minute he enters the game next time. You know he's listening.
  17. Bring in AJ Burnett and move JC to the pen and spot start him.
  18. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Jul 7, 2008 -> 09:05 PM) It just isn't going to happen. The Sox right now are 5 deep, which most teams, playoff teams, can't say. Because of that, the Sox aren't going to outbid anyone for a top tier starter. As Williams has said, don't expect a move. If anything, it will be a Blum type move. One guy I would look at is Casey Blake. I believe Fathom brought up his name before, and would be a real nice fit a 3B. I'm really starting to lose trust in Crede and his back, and his struggles against LHP has been brutal. Blake is on a one year deal, and doesn't have a ton of value to the Tribe, especially with Marte at the hot corner, so it's something that could be looked at. You know you can't believe what Williams says and he's going to try and be extremely under the radar after what went on this past off season. I agree we are 5 deep but if you can acquire a top level guy without shaking up your current roster,i would think you have to look at it and we all know Williams gets enamored with guys that have stuff like Burnett does. I can easily see us standing pat, and couldn't blame them one bit, but Burnett could be the guy to put us way over the top especially if someone slumps or gets dinged up.Plus he could become a fixture in next years rotation as well. I also like the Blake idea.He can play either corner infield or outfield positions and play them well.
  19. Now that CC has set the market, the secondary pitchers will now come into play. I think Milwaukee paid a small price for a Cy Young winning pitcher in the heat of a pennant race. I don't care what type of prospect Laporta is, to give up mainly a AA prospect for a difference maker like Sabathia,is a steal for Brewers in my book. That means a guy like Burnett can probably be had on the cheap as well. I know the Sox had interest in him when he was on the market last time and wouldn't mind seeing them go after him again. He's not having the best of years either and that will also lower his value. He has a pretty steep salary,i think 13 mill, and that will also be incentive for Toronto to move him. The Sox have said they would like to conserve MB innings and i'm sure the same could be said about Floyd and Danks. Getting a guy like Burnett could allow that and then he could move into Contreras's spot on next years team. I'm not on top of our prospects and how they're doing but a Lance Broadway and a top AA prospect would seem to be enough now that Sabathia has been had for 1 top prospect and 3 lesser ones. I know Sabathia's value is somewhat diminished by impending free agency but to pick up a guy of his quality, at this time of year, for that price, makes these other guys alot more available to contending teams.
  20. I don't get why so many people are questioning whther Floyd wil hold up and say Danks is a sure thing. Neither really have a proven track record. I think both guys are just coming into their own and will continue to pitch solid throughout the season. Floyd has been every bit as impressive to me as Danks has. 10-4/3.2 versus 6-4/ 2.52 are both extremely good numbers from your 2 youngest pitchers. With that said, my playoff roation would be: MB- he's the leader of the staff. There's no doubt Ozzie goes with him in a game 1. Floyd-i see know reason why he falls off in the 2nd half.In fact he looks to be improving his breaking ball the more confidence he gets. Danks-he could easily be game 2 but i just wanted to separate the lefties Vazquez-#1 stuff in the 4 hole. He would be as strong and any number 4 pitcher in the league. Contreras goes to the pen unlees he lights it up in the 2nd half and then OG has a great problem. But JC,in his last few starts, has looked to be reverting to last years form where he's taking all day to pitch and getting hit a little harder. I think he's much better when he pitches at a faster pace.
  21. I think the Twins should be concerned about the White Sox,not the other way around.
  22. On paper, you would think the Sox may open up some ground this week. The twins go to Boston and Detroit while the Sox go to KC and Tex. If the Sox can get their act together on the road, which, to me, is the main change needed to winning the division, they could have a 2 to 3 game lead again.
  23. Beat Cleveland and CC tonight and you can put a fork in the Indians because their season is ovah. THey came into the series needing to win at least 2 of three to give them any hope of catching the Sox. If they get swept, including beating their 2 aces, they will be severely demoralized and pack it in for the year. Sabathia will be traded soon after this game, especially if the Sox beat him. Even the Cleveland announcers were saying last night that they had to win the last 2 of the series to keep any legitimate hope alive for getting back into it. Besides, all the Sox have to do is keep it close until the Indians bring in their 85mph, batting pratice tossing closer to blow another one.
  24. there aren't too many managers that are going to take the bat out of the hands of their 3,4,and 5 hitters. So he happened to hit into a DP,that happens. You didn't want a bunt in that situation di you? If they do bunt, which would rarely even be considered, they just walk Thome to load the bases and set up another potential DP or force out.
  25. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 2, 2008 -> 11:35 AM) It's just sad to me that wins are actually a metric that people use, and the first thing people look at. Danks should have 10 or 11 wins now and it's not his fault he's a 5 game winner, and it's obvious when you look at his stats. Wins = useless. I'll take 95 useless wins for the White Sox
