Featured Replies

Lance Broadway has been told he will start in Contreras' spot in rotation Thursday vs. Royals.

Dear lord.

It will be Broadway, not Carrasco.

Haha you beat me to it.

Luckily, it's against the Royals, but this isn't the same team as last year who he dominated. Why would we start a guy who was bad in AAA over a guy like Poreda who has the stuff and control or even Carrasco? This organization continues to amaze me with their decisions.

I like this move. Having him start and then Carrasco out of the pen if needed is better than the reverse, IMO.

I haven't been following the minors closely, but everyone says he didn't look good at all this season.

I may be wrong, but to me this move signals that we want to keep Carrasco in the 'pen (not a bad idea), and so we'll start Broadway until we can make a waiver deal. I have no idea what is available on waivers, to be honest, but that is what this move looks like IMO. Broadway could probably get Royals hitters out, but long term we know he's not the guy to be the 5th starter I would think.

Don't forget that a team claimed Washburn today...could very well be the Sox. Is there any chance of a rain out tomorrow? Also, I heard last night we'll face Gio this wknd. That should make for a fun game thread.

i like it. put one spot in jeopardy instead of two.

It's hard to tell how good/bad Broadway has been in the minors this year.

The team may have been having him work on specific pitches or working on control, etc.

Remember, the organization's goal is not to wow AAA competition, it's to prepare guys for the next level.

Good thinking.

From people that saw him pitch live, he was simply awful. The thing that frustrates me is that last year was when he was supposedly working on things like command/location/pitch selection.

Every decision that has been criticized in the past year still has left the team in first place in August. From resigning Uribe, Keeping Quentin on the roster, giving Alexei a shot, Bringing up Wise over Owens, everything has been criticized.

Let the kid pitch and see what he has got. He did pretty well last year given a shot, I dont think its terrible decision making to give him another shot

Someone criticized Owens over Wise? Someone was upset that CQ made the roster?

At the beginning of the year there were plenty of people saying Quentin shouldnt be on the roster because he had such an abbreviated ST and didnt look all that great in the time he played.

^^^.

He did pretty damn well in his start last season. Not saying that it's going to happen again, but he'll be up against a mediocre team and if he can win a game for us here and there, the better.

Hopefully he does better than Richard did.

I still remember the "Why the Hell isn't Brian Anderson our starting CF" posts that were rampant just after Spring Training.

Quentin had a track record of success in the minors and majors when healthy, deserved his chance, and the rest is history.

Too many people are "experts" on here.

I just reread the Wise callup thread, it was more of a call for Bourgeois or Getz, not Owens. My bad

I'm all for leaving DJ in the pen, he's been stellar in there, but it should be Poreda instead of Broadway in my opinion....

Broadway was good in Sept last year and is pitching against the Royals. He could be fine.

Broadway has some of the tell tale signs of a guy who was "bored"/working on stuff in the minor leagues. The problem is, his stuff isn't good enough for me to trust that was the case and thus he'll be solid in the majors. I hope I'm wrong though.

I think if he could be useful. If not I hope they don't keep putting him out there and try someone else like Poreda or Egbert.
