QUOTE(Felix @ Feb 9, 2006 -> 10:11 PM) Hopefully the green is meant for that part too. If not: Johan Santana Post-ASB: 9-2, 1.59 ERA, 0.87 WHIP, .192 BAA Jose Contreras Post-ASB: 11-2, 2.96 ERA, 1.15 WHIP, .236 BAA And I wasn't really trying to look. If I did, I could probably find others who were better than Contreras. Joe Blanton Post-ASB 7-5, 2.65, 1.16, .226 BAA Pretty much the same minus the W-L

Troy Percival was a pretty dominant closer in his younger years with 2 pitches as well...a high 90s fastball and the occasional 12-to-6 curve. I see no reason for Jenks to have to develop a curve. He can be dominant as hell as is.

QUOTE(MarkBuehrle_TheAce @ Feb 9, 2006 -> 10:18 PM) all owens has to do is catch the ball, and he can clearly do that. owens just seems to fit the mold of what ozzie likes more than anderson. i like anderson, and beleive he will be a future star, but owens has a LEGIT shot at the job i think Everything that's ever been said about Owens is that he's pretty much a mediocre defensive LFer, and is a horrible defensive CFer. Having no ability to read the ball whatsoever hurts his defensive capabilities a ton. I personally see no way Owens wins the job out of ST...if for some reason Anderson is not the starter, I have to imagine the Sox would look to putting Pods in CF with Borchard, Ozuna, Mackowiak, and perhaps even Griever or whoever else the Sox have in mind playing LF.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Feb 8, 2006 -> 03:25 PM) Meh, you can pretty much throw out a bunch of ifs for every team, every year. So do you look for the team with the fewest ifs, or the team who will likely end up fulfilling the most ifs at season's end? One could make the argument that the Blue Jays have fewer ifs than the Sawks or Yanks...but they are picked almost universally to finish 3rd. Are we looking at one of the most underrated and overlooked teams in the league in Toronto, even with all the friggin noise they made in the offseason, or are the Yankee and Sawks offenses just that good? Or is the East Coast Hype Machine just working their magic with the Sawks and Yanks again? -
QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Feb 8, 2006 -> 01:20 PM) It's probably better that he doesn't go. Unfortunately, you are probably right.

QUOTE(DukeNukeEm @ Feb 7, 2006 -> 07:18 PM) You cannot take a player for your team that is ranked higher than the pick you have. Thats the rule. Buffalo Bills 1-8 2-42 3-70 3-73 BULLs***

QUOTE(heavyduty @ Feb 7, 2006 -> 08:08 PM) Even though I have only posted a few times, I usually lurk around the draft stuff and will take the Raiders, if you guys don't mind an unknown jumping in this. If you want just regular posters, that's cool too. You're in

IIRC, didn't the Sox only take Jenks and McCarthy on that trip to Boston where McCarthy was godlike?

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Feb 7, 2006 -> 10:40 PM) Judging by the 509 previous posts on the subject in this forum alone I highly doubt this thread escalates into any sort of discussion. Yeah I know...which if unfortunate too because a rumor with this much validity should be discussed in atleast 700 posts -

I actually saw this rumor earlier. It was nixed. You guys of course will ignore this statement and discuss it for 10+ pages atleast. -

QUOTE(daa84 @ Feb 6, 2006 -> 04:57 PM) they are gonna try to trade borchard i think. in my opinion they cant do it now because other teams are gonna wait because they know if hedoesnt make the team they can pick him up for nothing since he has no options left. My guess is that the sox will then put him on teh big league roster, proving to other teams that they arent gonna just let him loose. at this point the sox will still have to settle for less in a trade, and will either get something crappy for him, or simply wont find a match and just cut him. either way hes not gonna end up on the sox after 1 month and either grieve or gload will end up as the 4.5th OFer (with ozuna and mack makin up the other .5) I still have nightmares about Gload in the OF.

QUOTE(Wanne @ Feb 6, 2006 -> 08:53 PM) I thought that was pretty funny! Could be on the cover of their media guide if you ask me. Tought call for their marketing department... Choice 1: "We Don't Suck" Choice 2: "Tigers Baseball...Countdown to Red Wings Season" Choice 3: "Ainta Gotta Urbina" Choice 4: Yeah...let's go with "Thank God for the Royals" I do not believe Thank God for the Royals will be correct at the end of the season. -

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jan 30, 2006 -> 08:29 PM) ^^^. But alas, the Twinkies really also need to hope that whoever plays RF for them, whether it's Cuddyer, Kubel etc., can perform adequately enough. And my thoughts on Tony Batsita put simply, is the guy will make so many outs, does it really matter if he can hit 15-20 HR's? He has averaged atleast 25 homers a season since 1998...that is pretty much all I need to know. He's not very good at all...but he's not a .220 15 50 .250/.400/.650 player...he's atleast a decent power bat in the 7 or 8 hole in the lineup. I mean, if he hits .250, he seems to be a replica of Joe Crede of 03-05, no? He's not signed to a lot of money either, so I don't see a ton of risk involved in the deal either. Counting on him to be your starting 3Bman is not a situation you want to be in, but when your billionaire owner will only let you spend $55 million and all of your good, young players are starting to receive big paychecks, what are you gonna do? I still think they're an underrated team, and I still will make no bet as to who will finish higher in the standings between Cleveland and Minnesota, as they both appear to be very good teams...so long as both finish in 2nd or 3rd(or lower), I could care less, so long as the Sox don't finish below them. -
QUOTE(whitesox1976 @ Feb 6, 2006 -> 07:40 PM) That could turn into a steal for the Twins. A minor league contract? He will make the regular season roster. Sure he is getting old but he should help them. .229 4 29 .265/.371/.636 I doubt it's a steal, and I doubt he makes a major contribution to the Twins...but on a minor league contract, there's no risk whatsoever, so worst come to worst, they let him go and there are no repercussions, so basically if you can get anything out of it at all, you're lucky.

QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Feb 6, 2006 -> 02:32 PM) I definitely do wite, as Randle-El's arm will be missed as well as his special teams play. I've been amazed at his precision throws on the gadget plays. While Whisenhunt our OC might be hired away as a head coach, the Steelers will re-load with another OC that likes the gadget plays, as Cowher is in love with those types of plays. Mike Mularkey was the best we have had at the plays, and he should be available again if Whisenhunt leaves. So after all that rambling, yes I believe we will go after someone. I would guess Michael Robinson would be one of our draft picks in either the 6th or 7th rounds, and I wouldn't be shocked to see Brad Smith or DJ Shockley looked at in the 4th-5th rounds, as I think like you do in that McNeal could be gone on the 1st day to somebody, as he looked good at QB in the All-Star game and some believe Franchionne was holding him back. Better hope the Steelers are able to retain Whisenhunt, as Mularkey signed on with Miami. That's f***in low and then some to resign from a team and then very shortly thereafter heading to a division rival to take an offensive coordinator position. I say, at the very least, have the decency to move out of the division...but whatever. I also figured they would, but just thought I'd get your take. Seeing as how the Steelers have had so much success with the trick play and it now being publicized in their Super Bowl run much more, I wonder if more teams are going to try a few more trick plays in the up coming season.
