  1. QUOTE(IowaSoxFan @ Mar 1, 2007 -> 11:50 AM) Depending on how the fifth starter turns out and what happens in Charlotte, KW could move MB before the deadline regardless of the standings if he could fleece someones prospects. no, it depends entirely upon how Buehrle is pitching and not how the 5th starter is pitching.
  2. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Mar 1, 2007 -> 12:53 AM) HA, Vazquez vs. Young. It would only be appropriate if he took us deep. Twice. or alternatively, Vazquez made him look completely silly just sayin
  3. I was close to pointing that out, but I agree with the writer's statement. Griffey was the greatest clean player of the era; Frank Thomas was the greatest hitter. There's a difference.
  4. QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Feb 27, 2007 -> 11:39 AM) I dont know... we did trade Freddy for Gavin Floyd.. I thought we could have gotten a bunch more in return for a top of the rotation starter and proven winner such as Freddy with the current market exploding like it is. Who knows what Kenny will do w/ Buerhle at this point. trade market ≠ free agent market It's been discussed on the board before, but teams would rather throw 8 digit figures at a mediocre starting pitcher on the free agent market for multiple years rather than give up prospects for a pitcher along with then having to resign said pitcher for an 8 digit figure. And regardless, the White Sox got a former #1 prospect along with a top 5 prospect too. It's not like the Sox got no one, and seeing as how the Sox would have just let Freddy go after this season anyways, they basically got their 2 compensatory picks, one of whom will pitch in the majors this year and another who will pitch come 2008-09.
  5. QUOTE(qwerty @ Feb 28, 2007 -> 07:28 PM) Whi+3 sUx!!! haha
  6. QUOTE(hitlesswonder @ Feb 28, 2007 -> 07:50 PM) They picked the Sox for third last year...and were right. And they also picked the Twins to win the division...and were right. So, I'm not going to accuse anyone of smoking anything. I'll just go get ready for Garza pitching like Liriano. Bastards. Their finishes don't explain why a team would see an 18 win difference from the previous season, and why the 6th best team in the majors (record wise) becomes the 4th worst when all the Sox lost of note was 1 starting pitcher.
  7. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2007 @ Feb 28, 2007 -> 05:55 PM) Well, this is a very special case. And like I said earlier, I don't want it to be a HR that beats us. But if we're either up or down, let's say, 5 runs, and Frank comes to the plate and smashes #500, I'm certainly not going to be upset. In fact, I'm going to cheer my ass off. I don't think that's really what Rowand is talking about specifically. Others were suggesting that they wouldn't mind seeing Frank hit his 500th homer even if it meant a White Sox lost. That's ridiculous. I'd love to see Frank hit his 500th homer against the Sox - just not in a game that's tied up where his homer determines whether the Sox win or lose. And hell, if the Sox are getting pummeled, let Frank hit his 500th - atleast then I can be happy in some aspect about a blow out.
  8. QUOTE(Felix @ Feb 27, 2007 -> 12:41 PM) It was clearly written in jest (or at least, clearly to me ) lol...ya I could tell it was. I really don't give a s*** who's better between Thome and Thomas, because it really is arguable and a matter of opinion. All I really care about is that Thome is great next year.
  9. the organization gets to decide how much these guys make. They write the contracts, give the year's salary, and then the player has to sign the deal; thus, they signed 1 year deals. The Sox get to do this for the first 3 years of a player's service time. After those 3 years, it either goes to arbitration or some agreed upon contract between the player and team (and they can give as many years after those last 3 as the two agree upon). After that, the player is free to sign with any team in the majors. The Sox never had the possiblity of losing these. It's really nothing you even need to read into quite honestly.
  10. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Feb 26, 2007 -> 09:16 PM) Play WELL, Ozzie. Play WELL. he make da fooking lineup
  11. QUOTE(Felix @ Feb 26, 2007 -> 09:05 PM) JIM THOME IS BETTER! do you seriously wish that I prove you wrong
  12. wow, a 90 win team to a 90 loss team because of the loss of one starting pitcher. what the f***
  13. QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Feb 27, 2007 -> 08:18 PM) I didn't mean to say it doesn't happen at all. It happens basically every night in college basketball, whereas the examples from other sports are far fewer. definitely no disagreement there
  14. QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Feb 27, 2007 -> 07:26 PM) Playing on a homecourt can make even the worst teams into one of the best in country for a night. You don't see this anywhere except for college basketball. hate to stir the pot, but Korea 2002 and I don't even like soccer
  15. KW was supposedly into McCarthy's sister or girlfriend, and McCarthy was pissed about it. That's why he was traded. It's completely preposterous, and thank you Ginger for taking a shot at such a stupid rumor.
  16. QUOTE(tealeafreaderii @ Feb 26, 2007 -> 05:51 PM) Gavin Floyd turned his ankle in and intersquad game and had to leave... so I wouldn't count on seeing him anytime too. Friday isn't soon
  17. QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Feb 26, 2007 -> 04:41 PM) I'm not convinced he's handing lf to Erstad. Ozuna and Mackowiak won't be in the mix in cf, after all. (I pray.) And there's no mention of a competition between Erstad and Anderson. Anderson's competing with everyone else, Erstad's a sure thing. It's respect to a veteran I suppose. I also have no problem if Anderson is competing against those other 5, because he'll win it (with the exception of maybe Sweeney, and I still think he needs another year in Charlotte to further develop his power). Now, if Mackowiak ends up in CF again next year on more than 3 occasions, then Ozzie has failed.
  18. QUOTE(fathom @ Feb 26, 2007 -> 04:34 PM) I meant in our organization, especially with the short field in Charlotte, as that would be representative of pitching in smaller parks like the Cell. So Charlotte's dimensions are 325-400-425, and Scranton/Wilkes-Barre's dimensions are 330-408-330. That's a difference, but not really a huge one. And regardless of that, if his sinker/curve is working, he should be more than acceptable as a #5 starter in the majors.
  19. QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Feb 26, 2007 -> 02:03 PM) I've noticed between football and baseball with the American and National League/Conference, most of the time the National side gets it. Cubs>White Sox Giants>A's Dodgers>Angels Giants>Jets 49'ers>Raiders As I'm looking right now the Yankees>Mets is the only American>National. Even in states like Missouri the Cardinals and Rams are more popular than the Royals and Chiefs, but a lot could do with past success too. Texas has the Astros and the Cowboys over the Rangers and Texans, but past success can go with that too. annnnnnnnnnnnd Oilers though the Oilers did sustain some success, even though they are victim to the biggest comeback in NFL history. Thank you Frank (Reich).
  20. QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Feb 26, 2007 -> 04:16 PM) From the Tribune : It's interesting to me because Erstad is already considered a starter, on par with Dye, while Anderson is just another guy looking for pt. At least Terrero is not listed. No mention of Pods. I'm happy because of it. I'd assume he's handing LF to Erstad, and if Podsednik can get healthy in time, then it's a matter of who is playing better between Erstad and Anderson. I also assume Podsednik is going to land himself on the DL too, atleast for the greater portion of April.
  21. QUOTE(Scwible @ Feb 26, 2007 -> 04:26 PM) I've seen two pictures of Anderson after he has hit a ball this spring; both have been to RF. That one, by the angle of his eyes, looks like it had some power behind it.
  22. QUOTE(fathom @ Feb 26, 2007 -> 03:39 PM) But...but....but.....they fixed his tempo! I've said this all along, but until Floyd proves he can pitch in AAA with an ERA under 5, I don't want him anywhere near the big league team. I think Haeger should get the first chance at the #5 spot, but I wouldn't be surprised if Masset makes a strong run. He has the power arm which is going to impress our organization. 4.23 good enough for you? http://www.thebaseballcube.com/players/F/gavin-floyd.shtml 115 innings, 17 starts, so maybe not
  23. So one of our cats had to be put down today, and I can't help but feel partly responsible. It was quite clearly a "weaker-minded" cat, if you will, and has suffered from bouts of depression in the past. I came home over Christmas Break, was home for over a month, and spent like a total of 4 hours with said cat. After I went back to school, my mom told me about how she was sitting in one spot all day and wouldn't eat at all - which is a huge sign of depression. She ate a little bit willingly now and then - after my mom would was told to force feed her - but that soon stopped, and her health kept snowballing downhill. Then apparently last Friday she was seizuring in a hallway - she was laying motionless on the ground with her back spasming while foaming at the mouth. She was still quite acting up until this morning when my mom awoke to her doing something similar while also making a peculiar, shrieking/crying/painful noise and that's when she called the vet. I know it's not my fault...but it just feels as though there was something I could have done. I guess at this point, there wasn't much I could do, and I can't blame myself, but it just sucks. One of the sweetest cats you'd ever meet in your life - just incredibly shy. Anyways...yeah, I'm not good at ending these types of stories. The time sucks on here.
  24. QUOTE(hitlesswonder @ Feb 26, 2007 -> 12:40 AM) In my opinion, Anderson's defense is overrated. Both Scott Gregor and Greg Couch wrote articles saying that people assumed Anderson had good defense just because he couldn't hit. Gregor specifically mentioned Anderson had difficulty going back on balls straight at him. I trust a beat writer's opinion on that, since he saw way more games in person than I did. I admit, I thought Anderson looked good in the field, but I'm no scout and I think it's possible BA just looked good to me in comparison to Mack. He's not a gold glover, but not many players are as rookies. And I'm sure that had nothing to do with inconsistent playing time. I completely doubt Terrero makes the roster. Terrero makes Anderson look like a good hitter.
