I think they want Hafner to play a little more 1B this season. Why, I'm not sure, because it seems he's more likely to get hurt playing 1B, but that's what they want I guess.

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Mar 18, 2007 -> 03:42 PM) Crap, I meant Sisco in the major league bullpen would be questionable. Far as Floyd, I don't believe an ERA in the mid 5's will suffice considering the other pitchers in the rotation. Aside from Garland, Contreras/Vazquez/Buehrle can't be predicted. If they're collectively pitching on par with 2005 (and Vazquez 2003), then yes -- 5.50 could hold. In this current year of a strong American League central, it may not be enough. His destination should be Charlotte. I don't think they would need to have quite those years for that ERA to hold up. What would need to happen is the avoidance of Garland and Buehrle's 6+ ERA period of time. I think Cheat had the actual numbers up, but Garland from Opening Day to July 1st, and Buehrle from July 1st till the end of the year put up an ERA of about 6.50; that, not the 5.50 ERA from the 5th starter, is what's completely unacceptable in my mind. If those two don't completely s*** their pants, the Sox are in the playoffs last year, and they could be this year as well. Also, Contreras needs to stay healthy and Vazquez needs to not have two months with an ERA of 7+. The 5 starter just needs to eat innings really, and I think that's why KW was "rooting" if you will for Floyd. From what it seems to me right now, Floyd seems to be more of an innings eater type that has potential to be a solid pitcher, whereas Danks right now is a guy that might be able to put up a 4.50 ERA (or perhaps even a bit better), but he'll have several outings where he doesn't get to 6 innings pitched and then a few where he doesn't make it 4 just because he's that wild, and that would just fry the pen. Regardless, I don't think KW can have Floyd start the year in the majors with Danks at Charlotte based upon their springs; there is just no justification, because I'm not sure Floyd could even put up that 5.50 ERA right now. Maybe over the course of the year, but the Sox need to get out to a very hot start and hopefully put some distance between themselves and the rest of the division.

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Mar 18, 2007 -> 04:00 PM) Their success depends solely on the health of that rotation. Sabathia, Westbrook, and Lee...if they're healthy, they're going to be good. If I'm not mistaken, Garko will be starting at 1st with Hafner at DH. But they're definitely going to rely on Garko and Barfield to produce. But with Hafner, Martinez, Blake, and Sizemore in the lineup...wow. Their lineup is going to be ridiculous. What I've read is that they are going to go Blake/Garko at 1B along Nixon/Blake in RF and Dellucci/Michaels in LF. I figure they can probably get Garko about 350-400 ABs, so that should be more than enough.

QUOTE(beautox @ Mar 18, 2007 -> 03:53 PM) i agree i think Kouz is going to rake this year, but i think Garko is going to be a sox killer , well i should say in general a very deadly hitter. the tribes line up is scary. I think Garko's a bit overrated at times, but agree that he is a hell of a good hitter. I'm not sure how much playing time he's going to get in that lineup though, it's just that f'ing deep. They have been and still are my favorite to win the Central, depending upon how their defense is. If it's league average, and that pen holds up, I think they are a 100 win team and could run away with the division.
-
QUOTE(beautox @ Mar 18, 2007 -> 03:44 PM) who do you think is going to preform better this year? Kouzmanoff or Barfield. Offensively Kouz will, and that I figure is a certainty, unless of course you're talking VORP wise here, in which case I have no idea. That was a good trade for both teams though, because Cleveland just has an overload of talent that they can use, so Kouz was expendable.

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Mar 18, 2007 -> 03:16 PM) Talk about a series of questionable roster moves -- if Anderson and Sisco are in AAA and Floyd is in the bullpen or starting rotation, I'll seriously have to question our organization. Sisco is fine in AAA. He probably still isn't ready to pitch in the majors, and Boone appears ready to take over as the 2nd lefty/Thornton role this year. Floyd apparently looks like s***, but at the very most, he'll be asked to be a 5. If he can just put up an ERA in the mid 5's, the Sox will be fine. Or if he starts in Charlotte and Danks is in the majors, that's fine as well - hopefully Floyd can figure out how to pitch. Anderson, on the other hand, is the player that will piss me off depending upon where he starts the year. There's no excuse for him not to be in the majors other than Ozzie's disgusting infatuation with "speed," if that's how you want to describe Podsednik. The best thing KW could do is to trade Podsednik, period.

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Mar 18, 2007 -> 02:56 PM) I would say the worst possible scenario would be for Danks to come out, get rocked, and Floyd follow that up by getting crushed. Not sure how you can Floyd pitching well would be a bad thing. hell yes And good luck to both of them, not just Danks. They are both candiates for the job, and I want the best man to win it.

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Mar 18, 2007 -> 02:56 PM) Well, damn, if Aardsma is mentioned in anything promoting the ballclub that destroys my theory. Aardsma is definitely involved in everything. I think I've seen him in every picture that has come out of White Sox camp this spring. I just hope Sisco is in AAA starting. If not, someone has screwed up.

QUOTE(Y2HH @ Mar 18, 2007 -> 10:05 AM) All I know is that Ozzie's small/smart/big ball combination brought us a title. Nothing more need be said. I don't like Earl Weavers strategy, no matter how successful it may have been for him...I just don't like it. And I think the league has adjusted to that...look at the Yankees...they are a team built on power after power -- and they've won ZIP since constructing it...even in the years they HAD pitching. I think in todays game, you have to adjust to the given situation -- which I agree, Oz doesn't always do -- but it's a little more complex than sitting on the 3 run HR. Especially considering the surroundings. Perhaps sitting on 3 run HR's in No-Homerica Park isn't a very good idea, while it may work at Sox park...you have to adjust, constantly, in the modern game... At least, in my opinion you do. The 3 run HR worked how well for us before KW reconstructed our team in 05? Oh, that's right...it didn't. At all. The 2005 White Sox team WAS a team that relied upon the 3 run homer. How else are you going to explain the 200 homers they hit? That team didn't f'ing win because of the s***ty offense. That team won because they put up a 3.61 team ERA. Last year, they put up 4.61. Why do you think the team wasn't nearly as good last year? Look at the numbers dude, sometimes they do tell the entire story.

QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Mar 17, 2007 -> 03:46 PM) Correction Anticipated Fact :If Tracey ever sees the major leagues again, it will not be in a White Sox uniform. LOL, Happy? haha, yeah, that's a little better

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Mar 17, 2007 -> 04:15 PM) His career record says otherwise. Seriously. One season below .500 in his entire managerial career, and he managed for 17 years. Career winning percentage of .583. The guy knew how to manage, so it seems as though the quote is true.

QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Mar 17, 2007 -> 01:50 PM) FACT: If Tracey ever sees the major leagues again, it will not be in a White Sox uniform. actually, if you look up the definitions of fact and opinion, you'll find that what you stated is an opinion. sorry. and I agree anyways

What could the Sox get for Mackowiak ?
witesoxfan replied to WHITESOXRANDY's topic in Pale Hose Talk
My biggest fear by large is that the OF plan is Pods-Erstad-Dye with Mackowiak and Ozuna as the backups with Perez making the roster. That's why Pods is such a sore eye on this team. Not that he can't change a game; it's that the Sox have other guys that can change the game too when they are playing well and then the Sox would actually have a backup OFer on the roster. -
and I just lost my first Sweet 16 team. And my first Elite 8 team. f*** Winthrop

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Mar 16, 2007 -> 03:08 AM) Is there a reason why the entire ULA roster was made up of 6'6" 280 pound white guys? Did they have a single skill position player on the team? Perhaps that had a bit more to do with them losing than Carlton being kidnapped and locked in a giant bird cage. you're not by chance suggesting it was a lack of talent that lost them the game, are you? -

I actually think KW is just saying that for humorous effect at this point. He uses the word grind and all of its forms to the point of obsession. -

and that would mean ARod's playing SS again after a 4 year period of time away from it. Going back won't be just like magic. I see KW making a run if he does opt out, but I'm not sure he'd give in to the demands that ARod wants nor would ARod necessarily feel comfortable here. He'd have to have a nice long chat with Ozzie and the two would have to come to terms with their differences, that's for sure.

QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Mar 15, 2007 -> 02:01 AM) so the point of this thread is a healthy Pods is a bad thing? And correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't it Ozzie Guillen who gave BA a vote of confidence last June when he couldn't get a hit to save his ass and everyone was screaming for him to be sent down? weird s***. And then proceeded to platoon him with one of the worst defensive CFers I've ever seen? some vote of confidence
